Just watched the video after leaving Joe to his own devices this weekend, thank you all for the continued messages of support. We really appreciate your kindness, patience and input through the rebuild. It has turned in to a bigger project than we anticipated (they always do) but we are loving every second. Sorry I didn't film the cleaning of the airbox, frame and engine case (it was a fairly boring and icky job but an important one nonetheless!). Looking forward to the Egg run in sunny Stoke this weekend, pop over and say Hi if you see us.

I can't imagine how many hours you have in that bike. Street bikes today should have belt drive.Much cleaner and much cheaper cost per mile than a chain. You ended up doing a restoration on that bike.
@Geshmaal10 ай бұрын
It's so funny whenever you spot issues and I can think of the exact Freddie video that explains it. Ingrained dirt on the frame... remember that time Freddie told us he only cleans the bike by spraying it all with GT85 and giving it a wipe down? Tbf though it could be much worse in terms of rust, at least his unique methods slowed that down.
@TornadoCAN9910 ай бұрын
Sure is a lot easier getting to the baffle with the air box off the bike! I did this to my Bonneville while on bike. There are a couple of the cover screws very hard to access b/c of frame inference...lots of cursing ensued. Have heard of others just melting the baffle with a heat gun/hairdryer from the air filter opening until the plastic softens t o allow it to be pulled out the filter opening. Don't understand how that doesn't also soften the airbox plastic, but they say it is not an issue.
@abeltriumph505710 ай бұрын
Yes. You are right. Did it to my scrambler last month. Easy job. 5minutes. Take air filter out and heat up with hairdryer. Put on a thin winter glove. This is because it’s hot and a bit sharp. Then pull the restrictor plate out with all your might. Mines came out whole. No messing. Then up grade your TTP tune :)
@TornadoCAN9910 ай бұрын
@@abeltriumph5057 Can't recall, but is the baffle made of a different plastic than rest of airbox? Maybe a stiffer/brittle plastic rather than the bendy, softer type for rest of box? That could explain why the box does not suffered from heating damage.

Are you installing a POWER COMMANDER as part of the airbox modification? If not, why not? The reason I’m asking is because I’m thinking of fitting one to my 2010 Bonnie on the back of the same airbox mod and the fitting of a K&N filter and Triumph TORS silencers and I’m just trying to determine if fitting a PC is a bit too overkill or not.
@Bad2Good-r4g2 ай бұрын

Why not go all the way and go with pod filters? One of the best mods I ever did for my 2005 Speedmaster was doing the full airbox removal kit with pod filters straight on the carbs. Sure finding proper jetting and needle height was bit of a pain but it made working with the carbs heavenly easy when I didn't have that awful plastic box in the way. And it looks and sound cool too. This being EFI you do not have a jetting problem, any motorcycle dyno could measure it and adjust the fueling spot on correct through the rev range.
