Yes, Mrs. Coach, you hit the nail on the head - it was a very difficult time for the all the members of the band. I find it both heartwarming and quite admirable that Brian, Roger and John not only stayed with Freddie right up till the end - protecting him from the salacious press and other media, defending him against his critics and some of the public, too and making sure that Freddie's last months were as peaceful as possible - but also used their time after his passing to put together the pieces of Freddie's voice they had in their possession to create yet another album filled with incredible masterpieces. Brian's guitar just wails throughout this song - what a genius composer and guitarist - a consummate musician. In the early 1990s, while all of this was happening in real time, I never for a second doubted the friendship and respect these men had for each other and each of them had for Freddie. Now that I know the back story, much of which was hidden from public knowledge at the time, I appreciate even more how each of them carried themselves with such dignity and grace through this time when their life as they knew it was upended and they were trying to not only cope with their grief but also trying to figure out if they could go on as QUEEN without their always brilliant, ingenious - and sometimes outrageous - friend and bandmate by their side. I cannot express how much I appreciate that both you brought this song to me on this day. Thank you.

Yes. This is Freddie's last song. He told Brian, "I need to go home and rest. We'll finish it when I come back." In Brian's words,"He never came back." This song is Brian, Freddie, and a drum machine. Brian was writing lyrics frantically. Freddie was singing whatever Brian gave him. They were both desperate. Brian finished it later. Concensus is that Freddie lived longer than expected because he had the music. RIP Freddie Mercury.

For decades it has been said that the most tragic rock band in history was Badfinger. You can find their story online. I am thinking that now Queen should be in the running for the "honor." The four band members came together knowing that one of them was dying and there was no cure. And, for 5 years, they worked together and supported him until the end. As the song says 'Friends will be friends, right to the end."

Just to add info: what you hear at the end its a group of queen song in a very fast chronological going back till you hear the first line of the song "Goin' Back" (I think I'm going back to the things I learnt so well in my youth). And then the baby (Freddie) crying. The version of Goin' Back you hear is the one that Freddie Mercury recorded under the name of Larry Lurex. And it has two very important reasons to be ther: 1) As a song it has a very suitable lyric, specialty, to Mercury way of life, the one that says: "But thinking young and growing older is no sin, and I can't play the game of life to win". 2) A pivot to Queen as a band and Mercury as a friend and band member. When Queen was still working their first album bit by bit whenever the studio was free, Robin Cable, who was a producer and engineer for Trident Studios, heard and love Freddie voice. Phil Spector were on the studio and Robin Cable was recreating Spector song "I Can Hear Music". He approached Mercury and ask him to sing it and offered the opportunity to record a second song "Goin' Back" to lunch a single album as a paid solo artist. Mercury accepted the opportunity to record the songs (3 at the end) but insisted that Brian May and Roger Taylor will be hired (and paid) also to record those songs (John Deacon wasn't on the studio that day). Remember that this was more than a year before the first Queen album were released. So Freddie had the solid and secure offer to lunch a solo album/career with a great producer and he choose to stick with his band mates, ensure they were paid as well, and continue with the "queen project". That impacted very strongly on the rest of the band and their trust on Mercury word and person. For example, he was the one pushing Deacon to write songs so he could have a share on royalties. Or how he always said "I'm not the leader of the band, I'm just the lead singer, and 1/4 of the band". That's why that song was chosen to be at the end of this one. It symbolises a lot.

Freddie said to Brian's wife, Anita: "When I can't sing anymore, dear, than I'll die." Singing and making music kept Freddie alive a little longer. “I'm hearing Freddie’s voice getting... weaker. But I mean he still hits all the notes. There's an absolutely spine-chilling note in the middle of "Mother Love" ("out in the city, in the cold world outside, I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide") which is just a great bit of singing." - Roger Taylor

So heartbreaking that with Brian's help, Freddie was finally able to put his true feelings about his situation into words, and then he wasn't strong enough to sing the entire song. It took two years before Brian felt able to add the final verse, so that it could be included in the last Queen album 'Made in Heaven' released in 1995. RIP Freddie. We still love you. ❤

Several songs from the album Made in Heaven were turned into music videos as part of a project to encourage young British filmmakers. Mother Love was one of them. At the end of the video - as in the original song - there is a kind of return in time (almost like a return to the mother's womb) represented by LiveAid's Ay-Oh, by the song Goin' Back (one of the first recordings by Mercury, May, Taylor and Deacon in the studio where Freddie used the pseudonym Larry Lurex because it was a Dusty Springfield cover) and a baby crying.
@sharonallforloveandpositiv5497Ай бұрын
The play back at the end was literally a playback of Queen until the beginning of Queen and then to Freddie as a baby. Taking back time.

That's just what I've heard from quite a few people, not sure about it's 100% accuracy. From what I understand May 1991 was used fo record A Winter's Tale and the beginning of Mother Love with October being the final sessions. Again, not 100% sure

If you haven’t done the song Only the good die young, you definitely should. It is Brian, Roger and John’s tribute to Freddie. I think it was also the last project that John Deacon worked with Queen. After this he retired completely from performing. You can see and feel the extreme sorrow as they sing this song for Freddie, especially on John’s face. He looked so sad in the video. Watch it to the very end because there is a final goodbye to their friend, band mate and brother, Freddie Mercury. This song is tissue worthy. Brian and Roger both write and sing this song.

I've got the timeline for the original sessions in Switzerland, all in May 1991: - Monday the 13th: Both co-authors (May & Mercury) recorded vocal tracks, there was also a drum machine, some guitar and some keyboards (by either one of them or maybe both). This was, as far as I know, the last time Mercury ever sang in the studio. - Thursday the 16th: Deacon added his bass (not necessarily the one on the final mix, but perhaps!), May added guitar overdubs and there were also some keyboards. If Mercury played the latter (maybe he did, maybe he didn't), then that was the last time he played an instrument in the studio. - Wednesday the 22nd: Rough mix. If Mercury was present (maybe he was, maybe he wasn't), then it was the last time he was a co-producer. The song was left untouched for 875 days (literally) until John and Roger resumed work on it while Brian was touring the States as a solo artist. From that point onwards, there were loads of ideas, a few arguments and loads of compromising between the three of them as to what to do with it. Brian played the solo using a different guitar, not the one he and his father built, and since that guitar wasn't manufactured before 1993, we can be almost certain said solo was recorded in 1994-1995. The final mix was in or before September 1995.

Brian also said: "We thought that’s what really we’re looking for. We wanna get back to that place where we were warm and snug and loved and secure. So the song was purely about that, but of course underneath, we’re talking about “Where’s Freddie going and where are we all going eventually...”💔 Brian completed Mother Love 3 years after Freddie's passing. It was a painstaking task but it made a full circle of Freddie's journey: It's the last song Freddie sung and it ends with the beginning line from the very first song Freddie ever recorded (a cover of a song by Carole King Goin' Back) "I think I'm going back to the things I learnt so well in my youth..." and a baby's cry 😢

I've never seen the music video, and didn't even know there was one. This is one of the few Queen songs I typically skip, because it's a 100% sure that I'm tearing up when Freddie sings his last Mother Love, and a bawling mess when Brian starts to sing. Just knowing that basically in between that moment (you could say during Brian's guitar solo) Freddie passed away 💔 I think it's a shame you found this video, and not one of the videos with just the lyrics. The video is very distracting and takes much of the focus off of what makes this song so chilling. I haven't heard this song ever without crying, and seeing your video was no exception, however I didn't get to the point of ugly crying this time. That's a first. Thanks for your reaction, and I'm happy you got the backstory before reacting to it. I'm glad it was today. R.I.P. Freddie.

It was about 2 years after Freddie passed that they started working on the last album. They started digging through the archives to see what they could do. It was very hard on the 3 guys to sit and listen to Freddie’s voice day after day all day. Brian wouldn’t let the other guys touch Mother Love and I believe A Winters Tale. I believe the last time Freddie was in the studio was the end of May in 1991.

Freddie’s vocals were recorded from May 13-16 1991, with a drum machine to guide the tempo. Freddie would leave Montreux (their studio at the time) shortly thereafter, and was basically bed bound for the last month of his life. I will agree, the music video is a bit odd, but just about all the Made In Heaven ones are like that. To my knowledge they’re all from mini-movies.

Now you have listened to Mother love i suggest you give Only the good die young. A song that Brian wrote as a tribute to Freddie, recorded a demo tape, gave it to Roger for his remarks, Roger however put it away, forgetting about it, came across it sometime later, called Brian and said that it had to be recorded and was the last song ever recorded by the remaining three members of Queen.

My last comment I promise! Brian discussed on his website the writing process he and Freddie had (writing both separately and together, and conscious of the nature of the song and the lyrics), the statement that he made, "And Freddie at that time said 'Write me stuff... I know I don't have very long; keep writing me words, keep giving me things I will sing, then you can do what you like with it afterwards, you know; finish it off' and so I was writing on scraps of paper these lines of 'Mother Love', and every time I gave him another line he'd sing it, sing it again, and sing it again, so we had three takes for every line, and that was it... and we got the last verse and he said 'I'm not up to this, and I need to go away and have a rest, I'll come back and finish it off...' and he never came back". The last verse of the song was sung by Brian. Close to the end of the song, it features a sample from Freddie’s call and response recorded at Queen's famous 12 July 1986 concert at Wembley Stadium, and a sample from the intro of the studio version of "One Vision" and "Tie Your Mother Down". Afterwards, a snippet of every Queen song ever recorded can be heard, put together and then rapidly sped through a tape machine starting from their recent songs and going back to the beginning. Concluding the song is a sample from a cover of "Goin' Back", a song written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, for which Freddie had provided lead vocals in 1972 (more to come on this). As the song fades out, there is a baby heard crying.

Hi folks! Yes, today is indeed the day. It was a Sunday then, too. The news came over the TV at the 10.00p news break, and the floodgates were opened. All the radio stations let loose with "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the accolades for Freddie's greatness began. (And I can tell you, it wasn't there until he died. When I was 11, 12, back in the Sheer Heart Attack/Night At The Opera days, being a Queen fan could get your a** kicked in the parking lot. Gender notwithstanding.) It didn't seem possible then and now it doesn't seem possible that he's been gone longer than his iteration of the band lasted. I have no doubt he would get a huge kick out of seeing how things have continued. Yes, there were four equal parts, but let's not kid ourselves. If it had been Brian, John , Roger and Dave, they would be a footnote in musical history. As this is the Doc's song, there is a version of just him singing it-I am loath to day I prefer it as Freddie always sounds a bit off singing the Doc's lace-and-ruff lyrics, but that doesn't mean this one isn't great. Actually, it's hard to not tell this was written for Anita. (And I'm not for one minute buying that Mrs. Coach is "just laughing" at Coach-there's something going on, but that's okay. Keep your secrets!) As for this video, I don't know WTH this is. I hadn't seen a video for this, and I'm not sure they should have bothered. No, it was not the day he died. This was months before he checked out. The album came out in January '91, he passed of course, eleven months later, so this was out almost a year before he went. For me, this video is a distraction. The stuff at the end is on the record and really is a lot more powerful when you don't have those annoying visuals. "Going Back" is a song Freddie did before Queen-there's a few of those floating around. The Larry Lurex stuff, but all that comes in time. Long live Freddie.

Let me correct you a bit: Mother Love was recorded with Freddie in May 1991 and definitely IS NOT a part of the Innuendo album (it came out in January 1991). Queen's producer David Richards (who made a Barcelona album with Freddie and Queen's A Kind of Magic, The Miracle and Innuendo) was talking about the time after Innuendo: "The Innuendo album was out in January and 14 days later they (Queen) were here in Montreux, in the studio making more music" ...😮 (check the documentary Days Of Our Lives).

Hey guys. I didn't want to say something about this. But I have to say you are really committed for listening to this song. It is the most devastating Song besides "Dear Friends" which was played on his funeral. Most of the Queen fans avoid this song and I can understand.

Thank you. We took a little heat for the wrong version (many don't like the music video) but it was from the official Queen channel, and if you are a newbie and don't know, you don't know.

@@CoachCastTV Oh it was fine for me. Just wanted to give you a heads up and if you don't see as many comments on this song it is likely because it is really sad in the context. You did nothing wrong 🙂

The end of the song was made up of snippets of Freddie singing from that time in his life back to the beginning where he was a baby crying. That’s the sadest part to me but a great tribute.

It’s almost criminal how this great song has such a pointless video going with it.

I personally can’t stand this video……I much prefer the lyric video with just the music and hearing Freddie’s voice. So sad 😢…….Love ❤ Freddie.

😢😢I found the video a little distracting . I hope Freddie did find peace before he died. Freddie died about 6 months later

this song has been recorded by Freddie till early September to be true.. Anyway i don't understand what this video is about..

@@SCHHHaFreddie’s last vocal on mother love was recorded in May 1991
@SCHHHaАй бұрын
@@markpalmer7215 in the book 'Mercury and Me' written by his last lover Jim Hutton, he says that the last trip of Freddie in Sweitzerland was in early September 1991. I don't remember why because i read it in 1998 but if i well remember it was because of they were working about their last album ( Made in Heaven). Maybe than the last recording were 'A winter's tale'.. i don't know
@markpalmer7215Ай бұрын
@@SCHHHa mother love was recorded 16-19th May 1991, it was Freddie’s last time in studio, he told Brian he would return to finish it but he never did. There’s no definitive time given for recording the vocals of A Winters Tale but Freddie wrote it & recorded it before Mother Love as everyone including Brian & Roger acknowledged that Fred’s last Vocal was mother love.

Amazing track. Again Brian & Freddie were a force to be reckoned with. (I was hoping is this the world we created wasn’t behind your paywall 😢) Eta this video sucks. (The queen vid not you guys lol)

I think, this is not original video from Queen. I am not sure. But lyrics is about something else.

Confession: I really reeaallyyy DON’T like this music video.😅 (I always just watch one of the unofficial fan-made tributes.) You can see space boi Brian’s influence all over this - and usually I’d be all for that sci fi vibe - but it honestly just detracts from the STRONG message Freddie’s giving us with his unbelievable vocals.

If I'm being honest, I feel the video is a terrible distraction. Not your fault of course. Better to listen to the song with maybe the lyrics scrolling.

I love this song but HATE the official video-Freddie of course had nothing to do with it and it has nothing to do with the song. It really really distracts from the poignant lyrics of the song--the wishes of a dying man. I had read an interview with Brian May somewhere long ago that said Mary Austin was sort of in the back of his mind when writing this song as she really took care of Freddie all of those years they were such close friends.

I've heard the album as my mum owned it. Personally, I don't like the album and shall never listen to it ever again. The reason is that the music is fine, but some of the vocals sound like demos, and the feel of the album comes across to me different from what came before. One must remember that the vocals were recorded over five years before the album was released. I feel that if Freddie had been involved further in the album, it would have turned out different. Because of the reasons stated, I don't classify it as a true Queen album even though Discographies state otherwise. No disrespect to Queen, Freddie or the fans. It was so sad that this album was released the way it was. If other Queen fans love it that's great as I'm just stating what I feel.
