Sometimes you just get the blues for days gone past, and all the music fills your head. And then there's nothing for it but to put on the headphones and do a little time traveling. This morning my alarm played me awake with Roy Clark singing Yesterday When I Was Young, reminding me that 70 years and my four score and ten is almost in the rearview mirror. Now, at near 7:00pm, as I today up the shop for the third time, and the tree branches creak in the growing gloom, I realize I spent the day back around 1966. Some might say such is a waste of a day, but any cowboy knows you have to check your backtrail. The songs light up the dingy corners of fading memories, measuring out that long and winding road to now. Freddy was there, along that road, and so was Patsy Cline, and Boxcar Willie, Little Jimmy Dickens, Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, the great Willie Nelson, and so many more. They were the soundtrack of my life. Like prophets and seers, they told my life, their ups and downs, heartaches and love mirrored my my own. Somewhere out beyond the stars, there must be a world where the chuckwagon is parked and the campfire dances on the rocks above a valley floor. A place for old cowboys to rest their weary bones. And twinkling in the valley a window where my kinfolks talk of everyday things, where the logs are chinked with love. There'll be peace in the valley forever.

I cry when I hear him sing ! My Mother and Father died more than 10 years ago, they loved Freddy and often danced in the living room while they listening to his music. No matter where we went Dad always asked the band if they knew any Freddy Fender so him and mom could dance. It's been a long hard 10 years of missing them and not hearing Freddy. I hope Freddy is singing to them now so they can dance one more teardrop. Love you forevermore Freddy !
