@mathieuleader86016 жыл бұрын
for those wanting to know Jackson's script I will comment the following juicy details: Jackson’s script, which he co-wrote with Danny Mulheron, was titled A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: The Dream Lover. The plot was extremely interesting a sort of pre-New Nightmare meta take on the franchise. The idea was that Freddy was no longer being taken seriously, that the people of Springwood just saw him as a joke-much in the same way that the world did at this point in time. In Jackson’s Clockwork Orange-reminiscent take, the teens of Elm Street would actually take sleeping pills to go into the dream world and beat up on a weak and defenseless Freddy for kicks. No longer feeding on fear, Freddy was nothing but a helpless old man in the dream world, neither scary nor threatening. But at some point, a teen would slip up, and Freddy would gain the upper hand. All it would take was actually killing one of these kids to turn Krueger into a legitimate threat and start the process of him building fear once again. Freddy would ultimately regain enough power to take hostage of a police officer trapped in the dream world, keeping him in a comatose state. The main idea seemed to be that the officer was the father of one of the main teens and he would ultimately have to back into the dreamscape even after it had become a legitimate threat once again to save his father and bring him back alive, defeating Freddy once and for all.

I'm not even going to TRY to convince you it's a good movie, because it isn't, but it was mine for the longest time mainly because: 1.) It was my first. I was like nine when I saw it on HBO. It didn't quite get me into the horror genre, that would be "Are you Afraid of the Dark?", but it was one of my earliest horror movies. 2.) I really enjoyed the comedic campy tone. For the longest time, I thought all horror movies were "SUPER SERIOUS SUPER DEPRESSING". So when I saw this, I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, it left me completely unprepared for watching the first movie, but this is the movie that got me into the series. 3.) I saw the twist coming and it was one of the earliest movies I did so, if not the first. I distinctly remember being ludicrously proud of myself. (Hey, we all had to start somewhere.) There are other even pettier reasons (Like the videogame scene reminding me of NickArcade and Looney Tunes and the black guy not dying.) but I still have a soft spot for it due to nostalgic stupidity. Nowadays, I'd say the second film is my personal favorite.

This was the first one I was able to see in a theater. Spent the whole time checking to see if the 3-D had kicked in yet, and then it was like "Oh, the movie flat-out fucking tells you when to put the things on." Later I noticed the directions printed on the glasses themselves that said the same thing. The abandoning of survivor continuity didn't bother me so much. Alice had had more than her fair share of focus. It was the cartoon-ish insanity town that did it. Just a town full of comically insane people, going completely unnoticed by the outside world. That sucked any hint of realism (and thus any hint of horror) out of it for me. And that was before the looney-tunes sound effects. Ya know what would've been creepy as hell and also kind of realistic? If the town was just abandoned. No Tom and Roseanne. No school teacher. Just empty streets and buildings, with maybe some old foreboding graffiti. Towns actually do that sometimes, and it would be plausible that enough teenagers getting horribly murdered would lead to the town itself dying. But nobody would just leave a fucking town full of insane people. Think those people are paying their bills on time? Like nobody from the outside ever passes through and says "Jesus! What's with all these insane people? I'd better call someone!" It's just too much bullshit.

Fun Fact: The Goo-Goo Dolls performed a song in this, and they're my mom's favorite band aside from the Eagles. Yet to this day, she's remains clueless that they did a song for Freddy. She was forced by some of her friends to see the original film, you see, and was traumatized so much, she won't let me and other people say the names of NoES, Freddy Krueger and Robert Englund in front of her. Being traumatized by the first movie, she didn't watch any of the sequels. And it just so happens one of them, this particular one, has a song about her trauma from her 2nd favorite band, and she STILL has no idea that they were involved with her Man of Her Nightmares. Make of that what you will.

I don't know why they have to kill Freddy in this movie... he's already dead!

He's a undead killer that can still be killed. Zombies are dead doesn't mean persons can't kill them.

An I Claudius reference?! How did you come to know about an obscure 1970s British costume drama? Impressed!

You know what this film was missing, a song by Bruce Dickinson and later covered by Iron Maiden

Brad, I've been a huge fan of your work for years, you're truly a master of your craft. I was wondering if you could share any insight into your watching/writing process? Do you watch the films, think of something hilarious, and write it down with a timestamp? Do you have to watch films multiple times? Do you write a ton of jokes and whittle them down to the great ones? If you don't mind, I'd love to know!
