They had so many things wrong and right going for it. Wrong like basically letting Tom Cruise hijack the movie to make it about him, and announcing a cinematic universe before the first movie even released. Good, in the sense that they had an idea of where they wanted to go, and had some admittedly well set up world building. Hell, they could have said in a later movie that their little agency was founded by Van Helsing, some other people, and even Rick O'Connell from the original franchise as a way to tie the two together. Throw in Quincy Morris to be their Alucard like, top agent, basement vampire, and BOOM! A step in the right direction.

When making a cinematic universe, the first film needs to stand on its own. With the exeption of the Nick Fury end credits scene, Iron Man doesn't show tons of Marvel references at you. This allows the film to focus on the aspects that make good stories. Contrast this with the Mummy (2017). That film threw Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Jackel and Hyde, ECT at you. This made the film to unfocused.

I feel like it's worth mentioning that Wes Craven's New Nightmare is an absolutely fantastic sequel, even if it didn't do well financially. I'd easily say it's the 3rd best in the series, right behind the original and Dream Warriors. Freddy's redesign definitely made him more menacing, and the meta nature of the film works shockingly well. I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. Also, F v J is the movie that got me into horror. As a young boy who'd seen nothing but paranormal ghost movies, F v J showed me not every horror movie needed to be dark and pessimistic, that they could be fun and indulgent. My love of 80s slashers and horror in general is owed entirely to this movie.

From what I read in Crystal Lake Memories, Hodder was contacted but they weren't willing to offer him much for the role and after some brief negotiation they went ahead without telling him they'd chosen someone else. On one hand it really sucked to see him get shafted like that but on the other hand their budget was razor thin, they had 32 million and 6 million of that had already been spent on a decade of script treatments. New Line is extremely strict about budgets so they didn't have a penny more to spend. They did what they had to do to get this movie made. In a perfect world New Line would have not sucked and ponied up the extra cash but I think Ken did a good job and F13 fans are a little hard on him.

Really shocked you didn't mention that Ash from Evil Dead was supposed to be a main character early on, also hinted at in Jason goes to Hell in the Necronomicon cameo. Only reason it fell through is reportedly Raimi insisted Ash needed to win.

I remember thinking when I first round out this was coming out was " well this will be shit that can't possibly work being how different the characters are and how they kill in different places". By the time I saw it a year or two after its release I saw it wasn't as bad as I thought but really wasn't that great.

The journey to 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" was a very long and arduous one, especially when you take into consideration that the original "King Kong vs. Godzilla" came out in 1962! That would make for a great video!

This film was decent imo but not great, I think fan response would have been better for Jason had Kane Hodder doned the mask again, and maybe for the nightmare camp I think the “Freddy was a consoler at Crystal lake idea” might not have been too ludicrous given when it took place compared to when the first nightmare did, but then again it is a major retcon in an established series which is pretty difficult to get away with

Freddy vs Jason was my introduction to both film series, and for what it is I enjoyed it. My favorite scene was in Jason's mind Freddy smached him against the pipes and it made pinball sounds.

The original "Friday The 13th" from 1980 with Kevin Bacon and Betsy Palmer actually still generates (admittedly tiny) box office receipts today! Just last night, my girlfriend and I went to a drive-in theater complex in a neighboring town. "Friday The 13th" was the second half of the double feature showing on one of the screens. (It was paired with "A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge".)

As someone who has loved this movie since I was nine and I'm huge fan of specifically Freddy. The star of this film is Kelly Rowland, of course.

It wasn't a bad film, the premise is good and respects the killers lore for the most part (still don't know how Jason being hydrophobic makes sense) . The major issue was the humans were boring and mostly weren't good plus Freddy doesn't get any on screen kills that isn'ta flash back or deam. Also the Jason design from this film is my favorite.

Does anyone else remember the missing footage from the rave? I saw it in a drive-in and the rave party had so many deaths, the kid trying to escape on the scooter which got grabbed by Jason who is finally drugged and put in the van. DVD release the party is cut back to the beginning with unfinished special effects like a raver getting slashed across the chest next to the beer keg, writhing and then suddenly the blood got edited back in and then it smash cuts to Jason unconscious in the van. Minutes of footage never seen again. I'd love to know if anyone can get their hands on the actual theater reels to see if it still exists.
@hulkk014 жыл бұрын
No but did you watch it in USA version or...? Although, I remember seeing this at theater and the moment when jason pull out his weapon right when he on fire, I remembered Jason eyes have heavy reflection from the fire. Pretty long period of time too. Look like they also edited for home video.

@@ArminAwesome You're right, I kinda muddled it between the novel and the memory "17 years ago at the drive in" but the rave scene was definitely cut down a lot. They had still cut the part of Jason nearly taking out the kid on the scooter and probably easily a half a dozen or more ravers getting chopped. You can still see the unfinished effects at the 2:00 min mark. and then the smash cut to the van driving away when the last time they were seen they were still running and screaming.
@DavidL-op5sz4 жыл бұрын
US version, I saw it at a drive-in back in high school. It definitely got edited heavily, the smash cut to the van cut out the entire part of the nerdy kid nearly getting it trying to start his scooter.

The reason why we don't have any other Friday the 13th films is because there is a legal battle either going on about Jason as a character or the Friday the 13th series itself I can't remember but there's a whole lot of videos about it

one reason I've heard floated around as to why Kane didn't reprise the role was because the studio wanted Jason to tower over Freddy in stature. (mostly in height and overall mass in general) however, Kane Hodder was shorter than Mr. Englund, so they had him recast with someone taller. (though the guy they got was only a mere 2 inches taller) its also why they filmed a lot of scenes at weird angles, so they could make Jason look as tall and imposing as possible.

Amusingly enough, people walked into "New Nightmare" with different expectations, probably why it didn't succeed where *Scream* actually did by being simply a more "fresh" (a.k.a. not using a know character) take in that meta-horror thing.

I personally felt Jason got slighted in this crossover. Yes he got more bodies and technically "won" the fight, but those killings became credited to Freddy to help him gain power and Freddy beat Jason both in the dream world and the real world only losing because the teens interfered helping Jason. Jason also was nothing but Freddy's tool for the first half of what is really a Nightmare film with Jason added in; with no characters or ties to the Friday series outside of Jason himself.

You should do an episode on Crash Bandicoot Twinsanity, the development was a mess, they had to scrap the initial concept halfway through development and the deadline wasn't moved
