FREE and EASY: Toilet Won't Stop Running

Have you ever had a really high water bill? The most common culprit is a leaky toilet. They are much easier to fix that most homeowners realize. I have several videos showing how to fix or replace parts on toilets. This is just a quick video to show how easy it may be to fix a toilet that continues running after you flush it. I want to thank you very very much. I'm a 74-year-old woman who lives by herself in a small mother-in-law rental. My landlords a sweetheart but he is, unfortunately, inept. I fix every small thing that I can so that I don't have to rely on him because a. He panics and. b. It'll probably cost a lot of money even for small things. All it took to get my toilet to stop running was tightening the screw down a few turns.. yay yay yay ..... this makes me so happy, again thank you very much for this service to other people. I’m in my mid 60s trying to keep a roof over my head & go to KZbin for help. I tried to tighten the screw but it was as tight as it would go. I sat down and watched the rest of your video and saw how you bent the rod. As I was unscrewing it the water stopped running. You can replace the whole fill valve with a newer design. That’s what I plan to do if/when mine breaks. I have links to the replacement in the description of this video.

My toilet keeps running even if I pull the float all the way with my hand. I've adjusted it to the extreme both ways and nothing. Nothing is wrong with the flapper or chain. The flush valve just won't stop putting water into the tank no matter what.

Thank you for this video! But i find when i tighten the screw on top...yes the toilet stops running...but it also stops filling up with water after i flush it. Or it fills with water so slow it would take an hour for the next go. SO i am at a sorta happy medium...toilet is still running but not much...still making noises...Any idea man?

Thanks the title could have literally been one second fix it took me longer to take the lid off than it did to turn the screw. Every time I flushed I was lifting the float with my finger to stop it running. Thanks again

I appreciate the kind comment. The base of the toilet being loose is related to the flange and not related to your toilet constantly running. I have several videos linked in the description. You should find one there to help you fix the leak. It all depends on which type of toilet you have.

I tried all that . That part that has the needle and seat on the other side of the float won't just stop the water suddenly bubbles come from the lower part of the of needle and seat tower and I get sputter till the bubbles stop its causing little bit of hammer like a machine gun

I have that exact one but mine doesnt have a screw facing me to use a screwdriver to raise or lower the water. It almost seems like the face of the screw is on the far side and there’s no way to get a screw driver in there to change it. I’m stumped. Not to mention the person that designed this old bathroom put a countertop over the toilet so you have about two inches to work with
