Free Jumping Horses: Mojo

May 27th 2012. A jumping chute was set up and the horse is encouraged to go through it. Here's Mojo checking it out. This was filmed using two cameras, so most jumps you see twice; once from the side and once head on.

In every video I have watched of your free jumping, every single horse was tripping over the poles and their striding was too short. You need to figure out the striding for every horse and change it accordingly, not every horse has the same length stride and if one horse is stretching to get over the jumps and one is chipping, there is obviously something wrong there. Lease educate yourselves on striding and proper groundwork with a horse before free jumping and almost injuring them in the process.

+the royal devil Ikr this horse is terrified! You can hear him blowing and neighing! The strides are way to short! Comparing AlfusAlly free jumping her horses they absolutely love it! This horse is having so much difficulty it's sad.....

The reason he was knocking all the jumps down was because the striding wasn't quite right I don't think? BY THE WAY I AM NOT HATING JUSY GIVING ADVISE! He seemed TERRIFIED of the jump so you might need to work on that before chasing him with a whip over jumps by himself. It was probably quite intimidating for him having 4 people with whips, normally there's only 1 or 2. AGAIN I AM NOT HATING JUST GIVING ADVISE!

If I want to ruin a horse's will to jump I'll call you guys... I've seen free jumping done properly and those horses were bursting at the seams to go over the jumps, we had a hard time catching them because they kept heading towards those jumps by themselves. The horses in your videos are doing their best to AVOID those poles and it's no wonder why. You don't lead the horses properly (not enough drive, don't cut across in time, not assertive enough) and once they finally go over they struggle with finding their stride because the poles are too close together! No horse would ever be able to move properly with the distance you have between the poles. Possibly in trot but never in canter!

esther h they do the poles like that to test the horses stride. It's an exercise for them to use their brain, and to see if they can shorten and lengthen their stride. That's all!

i lke it more towards the end where's he's going slower and he LOOKS at the jump instead of thundering through it. i also think there are too many people in the arena confusing him :/

This is a nice way to exercise a horses knowledge. The striding difference can also test the horses ability to shorten and lengthen stride. Lots of people think this is wrong. It's very useful actually! If your a horse geek, (like me ... ) you will learn this is very healthy and good for the horse!

Beautiful horse but the 'trainers' technique is all wrong, let the horse figure it out for himself rather than pushing him forward& when he has an altercation at the gate in the very start, DO NOT APPROACH! It was making me cringe, horses can get in a panic and kick out. Dont go close to avoid injury or further panic, the only way a horse will learn from his mistakes and find his feet is by figuring stuff himself, other than that he's a beauty and a real mover!
