Transportation: Weekly Navigo cards. Go to the window, "Parlez vouz anglaise?", hope the answer is yes (unless you speak French--then skip this part), hand over 22.80€, and you got a pass. At least, if it's Thursday. It's good from Sunday midnight to Sunday midnight. 75.20€ for the whole month, which is what I did since I'm here longer. You will need a photo, which is 5€ Food: Avoid the tourist areas, or rent an AirBnB with a kitchen, or live off of food from bakeries. Lots of yummies.

Petite Palais is free except for the special exhibits. Carnavalet (history museum) is free. 1st Sunday of every month the museums are free. I went to the Musee d’Orsay for free. Apparently, you can see the Monet exhibit at the L’Orangerie for free. The Palais Royal, Tuileries, Jardin de Luxembourg are all free. Jay should do a summer version. Consider a picnic on the Seine. The bateau mouche can be cheap. I’m spending a month in Paris between the closing of my houses. I’ve become a fan of Jay’s. Paris is not crowded post Covid. Deal on lodging May still be available. The cost difference between an AirBnB in California vs. Paris for a month, covered the plane ticket in coach. For inexpensive food, try a boulangerie/bakery. You may find sandwiches, quiche, pizza and of course pastry. They are open when the restaurants may not be serving lunch. Another American writer in Paris.

There are apparently some amazing courtyards behind the big doors facing the streets. Never tried it myself but supposedly these doors are often unlocked during working hours (to let work and delivery men in?) and you can push them open & see some beautiful oases in the city. And if you are into fashion Galeries Lafayette and Printemps are brilliant for browsing & pretending you can afford that Chanel dress.

The church next to the Panthéon is not Sainte Geneviève, it's Saint Étienne du Mont. But you are right, it's a great one. The Panthéon was originally designed to be Sainte Geneviève's church, but then the French Revolution came along and it was turned into a Temple to the great men (and very very much later the great women) of France. If you absolutely want to find a church in honour of Sainte Geneviève, there's Sainte Geneviève des grandes carrières in the 18th Arrondissement or Sainte Geneviève d'Auteuil in the 16th.

Compared to where I live in the US (Vancouver, Washington, right by Portland), the prices here in Paris (where I am right now, working on a visa) are, overall, surprisingly inexpensive. Apples cost more at 2.99 per kg, about $3.60, (2.2 pounds), but just about everything else is less. The preserves I use at home, the exact brand and fruit type, is 1.63, about $1.85, compared to the $5.99 I pay in Washington at Fred Meyer. Rent is also not at all expensive compared to where I live. I'm so floored by how inexpensive things are here compared to what I'm used to.
@JaySwanson7 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize Vancouver had gotten so expensive - time to live it up in Paris! =D
@noellemarchand74447 жыл бұрын
You don't even want to know how much rent is in the area. You can easily pay $1,650 for a 1br in Portland, or more, and up to a grand to rent a bedroom, and that's started pushing people into Vancouver. My house's value has gone up nearly $100,000 in the two years since I bought it due to the exodus of people from Portland. The last time I went to a Whole Foods in Seattle, a lot of the prices were lower than Vancouver/Portland.

Im going in December and Ill I've read is negative feedback on how unsafe Paris is and Im concern mainly in the airport cause Ill have my carry on and my checked bag and take the metro is it really worth it?
@JaySwanson6 жыл бұрын
Paris is great - if you look for negative reviews you'll find them (as with anything in life). And it is a big city with thieves like anywhere else, so you want to keep your wits about you and try to be as safe as possible. Pickpocketing definitely does happen. If you're feeling uncertain or unsafe, grab a taxi or an uber to get your luggage to your hotel quickly and then go out with less stuff in your hands. Millions of people visit the city every year and it's generally safe - I hope you have fun!

I feel like I'm on one of your bike tours. Do you think the Paris Pass (or tourist passes in general) is worth it?
@JaySwanson7 жыл бұрын
From what I've heard yes, but it depends on how much you end up using the metro more than anything.

We try to have at least one a month - not sure if there will be one this month in Paris or not (doing one in Amsterdam during VidCon) but keep your eye out on here, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Hey Jay, I'll be visiting back in Paris from 10 - 12 April. Will it be possible to vlog together? I did my first vlog there before and would love to show cool "free" things to do in paris for travelers like me. Let me know! Cheers!

Definitely keep an eye out for a meetup while you're here =D That's exciting that you're returning to your 'vlogging roots!' I hope you have a great time!

Is there a cross walk leading to the Arch De Triomphe?
@JaySwanson7 жыл бұрын
You go underground to get there - there's a tunnel that runs east to west beneath it (in line with the champs elysees)

Jay Swanson so in July that’s when the “sale” begin. Is that city wide? Even in the Gallery Lafayette?
