Honestly, the truth is usually less complex. For instance, a hugely popular worldview is that everything is controlled by a highly sophisticated, global cabal. They tip the scales and set trends in motion, like a world wide Rube Goldberg Machine. it often involves fantasy and the occult, going as far as to claim an impending Satanic Apocalypse. They see infinitely unraveling patterns and conspiracy in even the most benign phenomena. But the reality is that there are tens of thousands of disjointed, Uber wealthy individuals, all racing to snag as much property as humanly possible. It's like trickle down economics, but instead of money the poors get stripped of all "excess" property, time, and space. And it's not a conspiracy, it's capitalism. It's not satanists eating babies, it's corporate tax evasion. It's not a secret order of pedos teasing their existence to the world, it's an edgy advert that shouldn't have been made. Etc...

Trump train still has room. I was left but could acknowledge the economy Trump built, and Trump did build it and was going to go further with small business investment and trad deals, then I saw the peace treaties, and was looking for something social and domestic. Then- first step act, thousands freed for over sentencing for drugs, overdose rate dropped for the first time in over 20 years, and Epstein went to jail. Compared to a known Jim Crow racist, who is admittedly corrupt and clearly a pedo. Now I am wondering how so many on the left couldn't throw off those party ties. He was even working on price matching an middleman elimination in the healthcare industry that was being smeared as socialist.

In short, I think the Right has made the mistake in always assuming anyone left is the same as a caricature in their head. And Destiny disproves that presumption really well. His family is right wing, and believes in the value of both sides keeping each other from going too far. And he's definitely not in favor of the increasing number of extremists on the left. He knows how to listen in good faith and has worked really hard on his conversational rhetoric because he truly believes it matters and helps the country. He learned how to define his own consistent first principles by being really well read.

Political people spend much of the discussion on social media, and probably overrated its important to the wider world, because it's their primary method of input/interface with the world, at least in regards to their field. That's why it seems so obsessive to them, because it's thier job. It's sorta like how if you were a poultry farmer and there's bird flu going around that problem becomes a bit of an obsession because it's so direct In what you do. It's not even like a addiction thing when it comes to social media for these people, it's just a bubble thing, it just makes alot of conversations seem super obsessive for us on the outside and who use social media in a more "normal manner". It's just two bubbles brushing up against the other, just one is very public.

I miss the good old days before people got into social media. I grew up in the 80s when there was no internet and no cell phones so if you wanted to talk to someone you had to call them on the landline phone or write them a letter. Things were so much more personal then instead of people hiding behind their phone or computer screens going on social media and saying to someone what they would never ever say in person. In my opinion, I think social media has playing a huge part in what is happening to society today especially tik tok. Tik tok is a social contagion that can be largely blamed for all the de-transitioners and people faking conditions that just want attention. I don't care so much about misinformation because there are so many ways to fact check anything that you hear online but I am bothered by what is happening to free speech. Now if you don't agree with something someone has said you can just call it hate speech especially if you are left leaning. I remember when debate was a subject in high school so that two students could debate about a certain subject to being difference views but I seriously doubt you see that anymore. I also get so tired of all the activism if it isn't BLM it's transactivist or it's the body positive movement or it's gender ideology or it's LGBT subject in school. These days they call anyone either racist, transphobic, fatphobic or homophobic or blame everything on white supremacy like math or classical music ( which I personally love). I wish I had a time machine to go back to the 80s and get out of clown world.

We debated contentious topics and had to formulate our arguments and rebuttals reasonably, which meant listening to what the other side said. Otherwise, we couldn't have had a strong enough rebuttal. I also remember being assigned to argue for the opposing side's point. So construct an argument based on what they would say, even though you don't believe it yourself. As a sophomore at Harvard, Kaczynski participated in a study described by author Alston Chase as a "purposely brutalizing psychological experiment", led by Harvard psychologist Henry Murray. @@mitjamackenzie1219 no. There is absolutely no comparison at all. The word plenty in your reply is accurate and I'm not saying your comment in and of itself is inaccurate, but I do want to say that in the context of his statement about the right spreading way more misinformation it is wrong. Not only does the left own and operate 90% of all media (apps and tv) and therefore influence way more people than the right with misinformation (and the TV is nothing but misinformation so that's not hyperbole), but the left also indoctrinates the entire public school population with misinformation more and more every single year. The worst (most impact) are in middle school and college kids. The street-interview content all over the web proves this beyond the shadow of a doubt and there isn't much anyone can do to prove it further because there are too many ways to fabricate poll studies. No disrespect to you and I apologize for the long comment, but there is no comparison and his statement as well as his KZbin channel is dangerous.

I guess I’m from the old internet too. I would not say that the internet opened up - all those people were already on the internet at that time, they just weren’t all categorized in little groups. You didn’t know the race/sex/age/orientation of anybody because they didn’t feel the need to tell you…I’m generalizing of course, but I do think it’s a weird take to have, and I don’t think Destiny is actually old enough to be part of what he’s calling “old internet,” at least not for very long. At his age, computers were fairly commonplace for most homes and schools. At the point that there were chat rooms, people were already organizing themselves into groups, but they were (at least as far as I recall) focused more on interests like hobbies, or geographical location. It was very rudimentary because it was slow and home computers were expensive so there were fewer people online.

With regards to words - it is too difficult to navigate reasons to not use a word. Today someone may prefer people do not use the word Guys, and not even blink at the word Folks. Guys started as a negative, to say you are as a failure (referencing Guy Fawkes the failed bomber of the parliament). It was derogatory, but then taken up as a call to arms in later rebellions as something of a hero. Fast forward through heroic being seen as manly, and men, and then eventually a catch all. Folks, however, was used as a term to degrade rural people who weren't part of the aristocracy. Folk stories, folk myths, folks - uneducated rural people. Today? At best we've gotten to the point that it is a common catch all from the south, but in the USA we often use southern accents to indicate someone is uneducated, folks is made fun of, it hasn't come very far compared to guys. I'm a leftist, progressive, I believe in free speech. The only way you can identify if someone meant ill by using the word is talking to the person and their contextual understanding. I would be hard pressed to reasonably come to a conclusion that either of these words ought to be avoided 100% of the time. I don't know if there is a word like that.

It is easy to approach the issue of disinformation so lightly if you are talking about actions that are detached from serious consequences. But this is not the case. Serious, often weaponized disinformation has very serious, often deadly consequences. The genocide in Myanmar was directly triggered by social media disinformation and Facebook's failure to sufficiently control and account for content. Issues of vaccination, climate change, etc. have the same, and probably even greater, real consequences. Only they are not immediately visible in the form of bloody killings like in Myanmar. Disinformation is nowadays a weapon that not only individual people and companies, but entire governments and regimes are reaching for. We should fight it with all our might and teach people to recognize it and verify information.

People just _crave_ negativity online. Like, you can find a video saying something like "the history you weren't taught in schools!" And it's all this systemic racism, history through the lense of critical race theory and "look how terrible we treated these black people". And you'll see all these comments beneath it like "omg this is so terrible, we should be taught this in schools. Everyone needs to see this." But then you get the Candace Owen's of the world, or the Thomas Sowells. Like under Tom's book on Audible Black Rednecks and White Liberals. You cam easily find 1 star reviews from people like "this dude is a coon. He's lying, this is historical revisionism. Everything he says he pulls from his ass and makes up." And the clear as day difference is, one of them is something that makes you angry and is negative, the other is something that is "here are a bunch of good things we had in the past you weren't told about, and here's why they lied about it being all bad." But only 1 of them is hated. If you tell someone "I heard Trump slapped a woman's ass" And "I heard Trump gave a woman 500 bucks on the street." They'll probably believe the 1st one more than the second. Despite Trump's visible track record of giving people free money
