As someone who needs to understand the context of the project especially when it's outside of my expertise, narration that is well done, engaging, and to the point is something I don't mind at all. And though making a second video without the narration requires more time out of your day, is a good way to get more views and make more people happy. Don't let the trolls pull you down.

@@Foureyes.Furniture it would have to be world class special to be worth watching the eversame cuts and sanding and finishing without any explanation of what idea sits behind "the build". Even though explaining the same step every time feels probably repetetive to both maker and consumer, every video is somebody's first woodmaking video and every video is somebody's 5,000th watch. There needs to be some sort of balance, at least giving hints about the design and steps and how this project is connected to what you do is essential to make thrilling content. Else you can just watch one of these channels showing 10 hours of trainrides without comment or a campfire or whatever. Woodworking isn't that zen ;)

Hi, I like to weigh in on this, I've Asperger's as well. The philosophical musings of our friend show to me he embraces the atypical. In that he has an overlap with what is reckognized by most as autistic behaviour. Also the monomanical pursuit of these project could define autistic behaviour, but, our woordworking friend shows also a lot of non-autistic trades. But where the atypical overlap shows? Mainly in the musings? Yeah... it's almost asmr! So, a relaxing bonus on top of the nice projects. Still... having said all this, can we have a non-slab project, the next time? A chair maybe?

Well, those people would be wrong. In my opinion. Anyways, people don’t tend to like or subscribe or support on patreon because they don’t like what a creator is doing. Rather the opposite, actually. I love your humor, and every comment I‘ve read so far here said about the same thing. You‘ll always find haters under every video of every big creator, no matter what kind of content you make. What’s important is that for you, the amount of people who love your stuff is disproportionately greater than the amount of haters. I‘m not against taking criticism to heart, that’s a good thing. But if they’re rude and hateful about it, they don’t deserve your attention. And if they want you to change anything, they can say that in a nice way.

It's not a matter of quantity but rather your self deprecating humor, skillful woodworking, and well articulated, concise advice. I was a member of a woodworkers club for about 15 years, most evenings and weekends. During that time I learned a lot including: that it was much harder than I expected; fixing mistakes was part of most projects, buy more wood than you think you will need, and, contrary to what everyone says, sanding can be fun. I would have never have persisted and progressed if I hadn't joined the club and taken the many courses offered. It was a Woodcraft store and club in Maryland. The shop was very well equipped and had a full time staff member who was available to provide advice and help. All new members had to be checked out before they were allowed to use each piece of equipment. The best part of working in the club was that there were some excellent woodworkers who were always happy to help if you had questions or needed help. They also made some beautiful projects. So there was always a friendly competition get better. In Maryland there was a chain of Opticians named "For Eyes." Back to your question about the level of detail in your narration. I enjoy your explanations of what and why you are doing that way. I am always interested in learning new (and new to me) techniques. It's amazing how many there are. Or to mis-quote Homer Simpson; "Who Would Have Thought How Complicated Nuclear Power (woodworking) Could Be." P.S, like most people I hated sanding when I first started. But after many projects I learned how to sand properly and began to enjoy it. I learned that even end grain can finished without splotching if it sanded properly. Besides, sanding meant the project was past the stage where the big cutting mistakes were made. I would just go into my Zen sanding trance and think about my next project. After a few years I simplified my finishing process and settled on using a General Finishes wiping varnish or Watco Danish oil. Most projects were selected curly maple or cherry so I didn't want to hide the grain. Keep up the good work!

I'm just a casual fan of watching talented people make things (i.e. not a woodworker myself), but yours is one of my favorite woodworking channels because of your often snarky commentaries. I love it. Please never change.

It's a perfect build again.Always watch your video's to the end, and often more then once. I was shocked to see that some people want you to shut up. Apart from how we treat each other, everybody being able to turn the volume knob, why choose to watch a channel and appreciate only half of it? I totally fell in love with your videos inclusive the voice-over. I like your stories and explanations. And then, you are absolutely one of the best woodworkers I met at YT, if not the best. And that Mr. Foureyes is what the channel is about.

I have nearly finished building this coffee table and what a brilliant set of plans and video instruction. Just got to sand it now and put the finishing coats on. I have been so inspired by this course, I have bought the Pico Console Table course now and I am so looking forward to reading and watching all the videos before my next adventure. Foureyes you are a inspiration and highly recommended

Turning something negative into a positive is a powerful idea and I appreciate how you pulled that off with the desk into table but also with the comments/criticisms from viewers about your narration. That mindset would really help me in my life right now so, in some way, your commentary is encouraging me to use that to adapt to my struggles. So, thanks and great work as always.

I’m new to woodworking, as in building something furniture-like. I like videos where someone is talking through the process - it helps me absorb more of the lesson and the mild humor is entertaining. This coffee table looks like a good place to start getting beyond boxes and simple open shop cabinets. Thanks!

You’re talking is great. Your voice is pleasant and you are sharing your knowledge and experience when you screw up or when you talk about some clever adaptation to adversity, you are taking strokes off other peoples game. Understanding why someone does what they do is important. You don’t blather needlessly. Some people apparently want ASMR but don’t have the good sense to seek it out. I value the great work you do, creating a quality channel about creating beautiful furniture.

Bringing it back to the old school four eyes style with the narrative intertwined throughout and the catchy payoff at the end. Seen this in the last few vids. Love it. Also love how he’s doing so much promoting of various products throughout, yet it’s genuine.

Hi, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now. I absolutely adore the mid century aesthetic, so your designs really appeal to me. I just wanted to say that I don’t mind you talking and explaining your process at all. If I wanted woodworking ASMR I would look it up, but as a beginner I need people who explain as much as possible so that I can understand what the heck is going on. So thank you for all the time, effort and information that you put into your projects. And congrats on the new channel as well!

I am just getting into woodworking after buying a very old house and making the decision to fully restore it by myself with zero prior experience, starting from the interior doors. I figured that, since I had the spare time, I'd get much more value out of buying the tools, learning the ropes and doing it myself than hiring someone to do it. And I'll save money which is another bonus. I might even end up finally picking up a proper trade. So while I lack the experience to rate your work as a woodworker, I can honestly say that you've done astonishing work in terms of both videography and narration. For a moment I felt like I was watching this at a theatre and not my desktop PC.

I rarely feel compelled to comment on KZbin, but I had to pause this video and comment right after you said people tell you to shut up. I am a 61 year old mom and grandma. I am required to talk all day for my job and enjoy quiet when I am not at work. Even my dogs don’t bark. I would consider myself a required extrovert at work and an introvert in all other aspects of my life. The words (shut up) were never allowed in my house. Please be quiet was allowed. I don’t understand why people think they are entitled to be so rude. I enjoy listening to you talk. I appreciate that you verbalize your thought process and admit your humanness. Your voice is soothing. It goes hand in hand with how I find woodworking videos soothing. Keep doing what you are doing and don’t let people force you to change who you are.

Its been fun to watch your videos progress. Your style and shot choice has subtly become very instructive and educational. in the vein of silent videos, you are definitely in the same realm as Diresta in terms of no words being needed to teach with your videos. I could watch them on mute just as well as with the voiceover. Kudos on refining this art of teaching through video.
