I loved how each level affected another, destroying the fuel depots in one level would mean no helicopters in another it was pretty sweet and made it feel like a war

This game's worldbuilding and attention to detail was on some next level. I always liked how in every level, the character looks a bit different, in every chapter he changes his outfit that matches the scenario of that whole chapter. by the end, he would be fully armored in a stitched by stitched outfit, showing how much battles he has been in. seriously IO Interactive doesn't get enough praise for their attention to detail

Freedom Fighters was one of the hidden gems on the PlayStation 2. I remember picking it up on sale, most likely in a bundle. It turned out to be a really good game and a lot of fun.

No its not hidden gem. Stop using that term just because its just you who discover the game very late. Its pretty much a conventional aaa release back in the day, everybody knew about it, every big game media picked it up and gave it pretty much good reviews. Great game but not hidden gem nor underrated. It grate my nerves that those term is overused nowadays.

I wasn't allowed to play alone but that was okay, cause than the two of us got to play it together and the whole experience was totally amazing. So much nostalgia here. A remake of this game would be a God given gift. I had hype for Homefront but it just wasn’t as fun. As an addendum, the game uses Hitman 2’s engine, but they didn’t bother changing the shitty-on-purpose gunplay, so you have a shooter with stealth game gun mechanics. 10/10, tbh.

I have some good childhood memories of that game, I got to play Halo years later anyways, if I had picked it that day I never would've gotten to play Freedom Fighters and wouldn't be watching this video right now :)

Seeing this game in work makes me realize Kane & Lynch: Dead Men basically reused the engine and gameplay wholesale with a broken cover mechanic and a next-gen facelift for the time, right down to the janky weapon spread and automatic reload system.

Loved this game back in the day, so hoped Io would make a sequel, but they got stuck making endless Hitman sequels. HomeFront got close, but it didn't have the manic fun of Freedom Fighters. But as for games "like" it, Have a look at Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy and The Suffering.

I would've liked to see a sequel instead of endless Hitman games. A new Freedom Fighters using the current day Hitman engine could be legendary. Homefront came close, but wasn't as good. Second Sight and Psi Ops deserve more love. Wish we'd get a modern successor to them.

This IP is soooooo underrated and IO should really come back to it! Given the tech now; a third-person shooter that lightly sits inbetween tactical and arcade with squad/platoon level strategy mechanics in real-time (or with pause a la BIA) isn't exactly being cornered by any big dev/publisher.. great vid!

I love this game. Has such a gritty vibe that no real other games do the same. I loved how each mission actually had a purpose and an effect on the story. Destroy this so that this next level is possible, or capture this so we can have more weapons etc. Great sense of progression. My one complaint would be a lack of replayability. You can only really play the story mode and that's all. There was a multiplayer mode tacked on the PS2 version which was fun, but you could only play if you had someone else to play with obviously. Now if the PC version had like a map creator where you could design more levels and add enemies and objectives, the game would have endless replayability.

I do wish more games would go back to having some more "arcade-y" systems like inaccurate weapons or enemies surviving headshots, since if you're good enough at aiming (or in a cover shooter where the AI is very predictable), you can definitely get in loop of just headshotting enemies over and over. I got Freedom Fighters with the Steam Release and I appreciate the game being designed to make you not be able to just headshot everyone easily.
@MrZiggy-sk2wg
@MrZiggy-sk2wg 2 жыл бұрын
the inaccurate weapons made you have to use the environment to your advantage, find alternative pathways, get height advantages, things that you don't really need to do in other games because you can just sit outside the enemy's range and pick them off when they can't shoot you, or just plow right through the path of most resistance and instantly headshot any enemy on a machine gun, making them useless, and snipe snipers with pistols across the map.

I love that game. I like that IO still has it as Easter eggs in the new Hitman games wish they would do more with it though.

Jasper kyd is such a good composer holy shit multiplayer was so fun back then. The multiplayer is freaking fantastic. Me and my two bros and cousin use to spend hours on it. Its like a game of war with massive armies fighting against eachother. Almost as good as timesplitters

So much nostalgia seeing the gameplay again. This was one of the games I replayed over and over again on my GameCube back then. Just a good introduction to 'tactical shooters'

Great seeing this game getting the recognition it deserves! I completed it back when it came out and I really feel you nailed it with this review. A hidden gem

Great video mini. I grew up playing Freedom Fighters and it was one of the very first games I completed from start to finish back in the early 2000's. This deserves a remake.
