FREEEZING TENT CAMPING ALONE - Mountain Winter Summit Wild Camping!

Had the pleasure of exploring another part of a stunning area that I've been to before. Camped on a summit this time in freezing conditions that did test me throughout the night. Auchnafree hill was the destination that involved a long hike in with a heavy backpack. With a day pack this would be a much easier walk like I mentioned.
Overall, this trip was a very cold trip away but the views more than made up for it. MY COLDEST TRIP YET!

Hope you enjoy this one folks. This was one of my all time favourite solo camps on the Mountains. The hike took longer than expected and it was also a cold night but the morning was great fun and the walk back to the car after the video was good too. Overall a good trip.

It’s one of the best locations for a wild camping trip Monty. I’m doing the 20km loop which covers Auchnafree Hill and Ben Chonzie around October or November. ATB

Cheers Robert, I personally agree with Murray (Scotlands Mountains) that Auchnafree Hill and Ben Chonzie are best walked from the Loch Turret side. The views are great and nothing beats a low level walk next to a Loch at the start of a mountain walk, well in my opinion anyway. The inreach is a good backup to the phone in the more remote locations. I’ve not needed it but it’s worth having for the longer walks anyway. Thanks for watching, ATB Gaz

Not sure if this is your goal to do this full-time Gaz but i reckon you absolutely could but it will require at least one / multiple videos a week but i think you defo can make a great living and life doing this with your channel. I see it all the time, people build a channel and then neglect it, you clearly have engagement and people invested in your channel so go for it, dude! The results only come from the effort man :)

It would be the dream doing this full time but I do still have a good job that pays brilliantly. Would still love to move north one day when I’m older though. Cheers Pal, I don’t mind this time of the year now. It’s the lack of evening light I struggle with between November and March. This is my favourite time of the year to go camping. The mountain I camped on would be full of insects in the summer months in the heather. The summer is great and the trips I have planned this year are big including 2 walks over 50km. Nice one Gaz, I must say mate, I really liked Ben Chonzie, it’s been years since I did it but I remember having tea behind the wee summit wall. I enjoyed Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers too. Tried Meall Nan Tarnachan but got beaten back by the elements. There are some great mountains in your area mate. Slàinte mhath. 🥃

Cheers Dougie, I am very lucky to live near to Ben Chonzie and Auchnafree hill. I don’t go often but I always enjoy Loch Turret too. I’ve done Meall Nan Tarmachan a few times now and will hopefully have another camp there this year. It’s a Munro to save for a clear day. My best camps have been on Beinn Ghlas to be fair. The Ben Lawers area will always be special to me along with the Glenshee Munros. Thanks for watching, ATB Gaz

Never seen anyone on this trip until the walk back to the car. It is very quiet but Ben Chonzie near by can be a popular peak. I enjoy camping up high away from everything. The feeling of remoteness is the best part of a summit camping trip. Thanks for watching, ATB Gaz

Cheers Andy, The Southern Cross 1 was bought for the nicer nights in the winter months because it’s fairly lightweight for a 4 season tent but strong enough to deal with any unexpected wind. I don’t normally intentionally go out in storms but the Soulo will be kept for any camps where the forecast is rough. I prefer the Southern Cross 1 at the moment with the Enan the tent I’ll use in the summer. ATB Gaz
