Lumi's behavior makes total sense given his history - not just that he's reacting like a stallion, but he was isolated a lot, right? I'll hold out hope that he'll continue to learn new ways of being in a herd and can eventually fit into yours, but ultimately you're the one who can make that call. His behavior really stands out - everyone else is pretty chill, even when they have little dominance spats. They're just communicating. I can see the difference. I do love watching Mushu with new horses 😂 he's like an eager puppy. And Naveen seems very interested in whatever drama is going on - he heads straight for it. Beauty chasing Lightning off from the girls is hilarious 😂 it's so neat to see all their personalities.

My gelding was injured several years ago by another gelding, the situation looked very similar to the one in the video. My gelding was a big baby (six year old half-draft horse), submissive, sociable and kind but the other horse attacked him as soon as my horse moved an ear, he couldn't eat or drink or go into the the shelter. The person who owned the stable didn't listen to me when I asked him to separate them and my horse threw himself into the fence after being attacked again by the other horse. My gelding had bites and cuts all over his body and injured right hind foot which was bleeding a lot, he had to be immobilized in a box for eight days with antibiotics, I had to clean the wound and treat his foot and redo the bandage every day, I had to call the osteopath around ten times in the following year because my horse's hips and neck received a shock during the attack and he compensated with his left side since he used his right posterior less well. I was very scared and thought there would be after-effects but fortunately it recovered well and the x-rays were good. In any case I was able to pay the veterinary costs even though the accident should have been avoided and no one came to apologize or even help me even though neither I nor my horse were responsible for all that, my gelding also kept movements of fear when a horse came too quickly behind him, he started to become more dominant and kick and he became more disrespectful with me.. I quickly left that place but the wrong was done, so of course it is a more or less natural behavior but sometimes certain horses are too aggressive or even dangerous and I think it is better not to take risks and not to let them in contact with others in order to prevent injuries. The safety of our horses is the most important and sometimes we have to make choices even if they are difficult 👍🏼

Personally, I think NOT selling Lumi is the smart action here. Shae can't just go "welp, he's too difficult, BYE BYE", because that would make her just as irresponsible as Lumi's previous owners. It's her *duty* to ensure her horses end up in the best possible forever homes, but with the way Lumi currently acts I think it would be extremely difficult to find a trainer with enough experience to handle a big and unpredictable horse like him. In addition to that, said trainer must have access to lots of land where Lumi can be accomodated with his own little bachelor herd. And even then it's not just about finding the right buyer either, Shae has to keep training Lumi and desensitize him so he's easier to handle. *If* Lumi ever leaves FSE, he HAS to be as safe horse as he can be, for the sake of humans and other horses and especially himself. I hope that Lumi eventually calms down since he has not been a gelding for very long, and I believe he's still young (around 7-8 I think?) so he might not be set in his ways yet... But that's not guaranteed, and since we won't know for sure until a few years have passed, the best thing for Shae is to do what she can for FSE, and for us to support her decisions. 👍

Yes this is how I feel currently. I love Lumiere and it’s not his fault or fair to him. Now I’m not saying he’s for sure a forever with this situation but my intention is not to sell him and I won’t anytime soon if ever. He would need to be way more trained and exposed etc. this will all work out I’m just keeping it real and sharing the struggles too ❤️

Shae has to balance the safety of the horses AND people in her care vs. the extra precautions she needs to take with Lumi. Imagine if a student had been between Lumi and Lightning when Lumi started to charge (or even riding him???). There is no stopping a horse (very large to boot) in attack mode. It is ok that she will try to take extra precautions and basically modify the entire operation of the farm to fit Lumi, but the time will come (sooner rather than later) when she will have to consider whether it is worth or or not. Today Lumi cannot be ridden in the program (maybe never with students?) . SHae has admitted that had she known about Lumi's behavior she would have never bought him. But she knew he had been only recently gelded-very late! and that there were mares in that farm. She still went ahead because he looked like her "dream horse". Unfortunately that dream lately has been more like a nightmare for the farm. Bottom line: we should not assume that Lumi has no potential outside FSE. There are other facilities, owners and trainers where he can fit better, and be safer. Shae is a very ethical person and she will make full disclosures about Lumi should she decide to find another home for him. She even posted the video of Lumi attacking Lightning for anybody to see! Personally I do not think Shae and Kyle can wait until "a few years have passed" to make a decision about Lumi, but if she wants to wait a little longer to make sure she has evaluated all the options- more power to her. I have great respect for her as horsewoman and businesswoman.

Part of me admires you for not giving up on Lumi while totally being upfront about the issues, risks and frustrations involved. This is extra important since, as of yet, Lightning has not been purchased. That does add extra complications to an already risky situation. I would fully understand if you chose to sell him down the line should this behavior persist/worsen. I do however fully trust your judgment, Shae, because you always try to decide what's best for the individual horse, your herd, your students and your family. Give Lumi more time to settle down and maybe check if there's an undescended you know what bc that COULD explain his behavior as well. (Though, knowing you, you've very likely had that checked by your vet already) Praying for more land/an awesome property to come your way!

Don't get yourself down, Shae. You'll make it work, and you'll do what's best for each of your beautiful horses! Lumi has probably taught you so much about management and given you a new perspective on your journey. I'm so sorry the previous owners did you dirty and lied to your face. Absolutely awful. It's NOT your fault- it's 100% on them. You did your due diligence, and they still freaking lied! Don't be afraid to call people out, if only to help the next potential buyer. Shady horse sellers need to be outed and stopped.

I agree. Too bad they don’t have a review that would fallow there every sale. So when they do someone wrong it will show for all to see. They might think twice before they blatantly mislead people as to a real story of a particular horse.

The other horses deserve to feel safe, happy, and not threatened by an aggressive horse. I know Lightning wasn't hurt in that encounter, but it was stressful for me to watch, and I'm just sitting here on my couch! I can't imagine how it must make you feel.
@kingagrabinski88494 ай бұрын
Lumi is not aggressive in a negative way. He acts like most stallions do when protecting mares and resources. And maybe he saw a threat in Lightning. Horses are like people, they do not necessary get along with all other horses. Many factors must be taken into consideration. So yes, Lumi had an aggressive behaviour towards Lightning but he is not an aggressive horse per say.
