The dogs are gorgeous but Disney is one of the worst when it comes to Cultural misappropriation and the furthering of stereotypes. The "Pocahontas" costume is disturbing. even more disturbing seeing a white woman dressed in it doing a mock woo woo,. Sadly, the former colonial overlords (Spain, France, and Britain) have not come to terms with crimes and brutality they have committed against indigenous peoples. US and Canada were British colonies and it them who planted the seeds for denigrating the Indigenous people. US and Canada only did what they learned from their masters.

Hard agree, completely inappropiate to allow in this day and age to wear a "Pocahontas" costume, with the wig and all. And you can maybe say the handler is just ignorant, but then is the job of the organization to keep and eye on the acts that are going to be presented and be more careful to what they authorize. It goes to show how this type of mentality seeps through all ambits, it was uncomfortable to watch.

How was the pocahontas one allowed absolutely gross. Cultural appropriation is not ok.

As for the comment about cultural appropriation, hasn't everyone been doing that with everyone else since the beginning of time? There was no disrespect intended, I'm sure. If you read the lyrics of that song, you will see that it's not disrespectful of native American beliefs but the opposite. I've listened to the beliefs of several native peoples, and this is what they were taught by their elders. I loved the Pinocchio one! So adorable. 🐾

My GOD!! How was that "Pocahontas" number even allowed!??? That was incredibly offensive!! There's not enough outcry about this!
@krisniznik39532 жыл бұрын
Do you make outcries over people who don't have healthcare, pollution on reservations, substandard education, etc? Did you protest during DAPL? or do you just go off about songs you find offensive? Pick important battles.

@@krisniznik3953 Who says I haven't? One does not exclude the other. On the contrary, they are very much interlinked. How can anyone care about the problems of people if you don't see them and respect them as people in the first place? Reducing them to a stereotype dehumanises them, and the fact that this is being done and broadcasted precisely shows this lack of respect and understanding.

@@MarianaPz14 No one said whether you have or not. But if you have, you may have noticed that the many of the people doing the most virtue signaling about things such as dog dancing songs, etc aren't the ones with the most concern for the welfare of those they feel are targeted. Often they haven't even consulted them about what their needs are or their preferences about how changes should be made.

The dog is cute but I have issues with her costume. I have inappropriate words for Disney. I'll leave it there.

@@MarianaPz14 Yeah, the “woo woo” patting of her mouth was particularly bad. I get that this is England and those things don’t carry the same emotional weight, but this white American girl was cringing hard.
