The problem with kipping is the opposite of what you said. Everyone can swing and do the crazy stuff, but they can't do the strict movements. Kipping is an extremely advanced for of a movement ONLY to be done if you are a master of the strict movements and already know how everything is supposed to feel. I could easily do the kipping row and it would look good, but my body would snap itself to pieces because the right muscles aren't actually working like they should be.

I believe this the same video as "Extension is Important" which is already included in the Hanging and Pulling playlist.

Gotta agree with Team Shmo. Why on earth would you go from good from to kipping?

Unfortunately, the type of thinking that sees strict (good) vs. kipping (bad) when it comes to movement is the type of thinking that is divisive and exclusive. It is this thinking that limits our ability to connect with one and other and eventually be able to carryover knowledge from one discipline to the next. Our ability to accept and respect all style is what I believe leads to a more inclusive and universal understanding and ultimately a state of mind and performance that elevates us all.

Taking that at face value, where would you see kipping as a carryover to another discipline? I can understand kipping in small amounts to help someone get to strict form everntually, but not the other way around. I am happy to be persuaded otherwise.

Throwing. Weightlifting. Gymnastics. Parkour. The prescription should be individualized. I think we are on the same page. How do we eliminate the fear? I think it is by setting better standards and continuing to help people understand.

May be not relevant to many people on this channel, but thoracic extension is also highly important in BJJ/grappling. There are several techniques that benefit greatly from this type of movement, e.g. finishing a guillotine or straight ankle lock.
