Poor Frenchies. I have 2 and love them very much. I do, however feel like the breed has been done an enormous injustice with the haphazard breeding, causing a plethora severe congenital health issues. Although I love the breed, I doubt I will ever get another Frenchie - for the breed's sake.

my baby has a neck pain and were base here in japan we went to 5 different vets they say its grnetic or inborn and theres no way to repair it sometimes it attacks the pain they just give us painreliever and a kind of steriods i dont knw wht to do anymore am so desperate i want him to give a normal and happy long life

Hi, my Frenchie’s back legs have stopped working. It started with him being really lethargic. Now, he is really unbalanced and can not really stand up. She still have feelings in her legs though. If she were to have surgery, what do you think is the success rate is?

For Pewds The first step is actually finding that cause. It may not be a slipped disk. IF it is a slipped disk and IF we can feel the rear limbs, most neurologists will give a 90+% chance with surgery.

Hey! I hope your dog is alright now! She most likely has a bruised disk, which the best way to treat this is to massage the legs and REST!!

what was the result with Bruno the frenchie? I have a french bulldog, 4 years old with the exact same symptoms. He was diagnosed with intevable disk disease in oct 2017, made f ull recovery, however in the last 3 weeks has been suffering with random episodes exactly like bruno. He has been given gabapentin and loxicom, which hasnt helped. He has had a full blood test which has come back fine. Vets think it may be epilepsy, of which he has been taking meds but still no improvement.

HI Diego. As of our last follow up with Bruno's owner, he is doing well. If your Frenchie is showing signs like Bruno, the possible causes of neck pain include a slipped disk, meningitis, infection, malformation, tumor or other cause. Where are you located? If signs aren't improving, it may be worth seeing your veterinarian again or seeing a neurologist.

i have a 2 yr old female mine jumped off the couch n her rear legs are like there paralyzed shes only 2 yrs old shes on predsone n gabbapentain it has helped she can stand after week 3 but walks like a drunk person i just dont have 2500 for mri n up to another 2500 for surgery which is ridickulis to me

Glad your girl is getting better with rest and medications. I hope she continues to do well. When you consider the costs of upkeep of an MRI, the costs of maintaining an operating room that rivals human hospitals, the education costs of the surgeon or neurologist, the staff, the medications, etc $5000 is not a lot. For a human to get this surgery would be 8-10 times the cost before insurance paid. In Florida, the average cost for a veterinary neurologist to do those tests and surgery is close to $8000. Some hospitals are much more. Fortunately, about 60% of dogs that get IVDD can get better without surgery as long as they can feel their rear limbs.
