@@tigerscion701 yes, but fix the ratios! No need for that much pineapple, cream cheese, cool whip, or jello. The veggies seemed right still. Instead of using American cheese you should use Chipotle Gouda cheese on top. I'd probably do half the cream cheese with a 1/3 of the jello pack & cool whip.

Yeah, I can’t stomach most of Jack and Kay’s videos. There’s a big difference between someone like Jamie Oliver making up his own recipes, getting half the ingredients wrong etc., he’s made some bad food but at least it looks edible, nobody’s going to get sick from recreating it. And then there’s Jack, where him still being alive is a minor miracle after some of the “food” he has showcased.
@Gauron.
@Gauron. Жыл бұрын
@@JoshF848 But atleast in Kay's case she seems to be slowly improving and her entire channel feels like shes just someone who doesnt know cooking but tries while Jack continously makes inedible trash and thinks hes a pro like in the church chili episode where he was upset that people can judge his food and that way he wont win.

Talking about how much of a health hazard jack’s cooking is feels almost morbid nowadays, considering the multiple strokes and other health issues he’s had. He’s just continuing on and on making these atrocities and putting them into his body, and is even going on a “carnivore diet” now. It’s like watching a man slowly unalive himself

My theory is that Aunt Mirna kept begging him to show off her amazing cheese salad, and he kept putting it off as long as he could knowing how bad it was (even to him), but ended up caving and putting this out to appease her. That, or hers is somehow actually edible and his poor cooking skills resulted in it coming out bad.

Being a retired chef, I can relate to many "WTF did you make" moments in the kitchen. Watching "Cooking With Jack Show" boarders on watching someone abusing a child or even elderly abuse. His videos could be training videos on what not to do when being Serve Safe certified. He's good for shits and giggles now and then. I goggled this guy to see what happened to him. He's still cooking, somewhat, but without one arm. He had, as of May 2023, 4 strokes and now his right arm has atrophied. So now he has a couple of people helping him in the kitchen.

There are a lot of disgusting Jello Salad recipes that were popular in the 50s. They are brutally disgusting and have everything under the sun in them. However, I sort of feel like Aunt Myrna might have been having a dementia moment and crossed an Ambrosia/dessert jello salad with one that was more savory. Cause I've seen other people make vintage jello recipes and there is a one that has celery/pimento/olives and canned tuna in lime jello.

Jello and meat together is aspic. Not a big thing today, but tolerable. (Gelatin has no flavor by itself, and so it can take on any flavor.) But like Frenchy said, you normally separate your savories and sweets. The savories (jello and meat) make a main, and sweet jello makes desert.

Bromelain breaks down proteins with a pretty wide spectrum. That said, when you *cook* the pineapple you break down the bromelain and deactivate it; this is why jello dishes usually specify canned pineapple.

And for the same reason Americans still have ugly, trimmed, uniform front lawns. Yuval Noah Harrari writes "Well-kept lawns demanded land and a lot of work, particularly in the days before lawnmowers and automatic water sprinklers. In exchange, they produce nothing of value. You can’t even graze animals on them, because they would eat and trample the grass. Poor peasants could not afford wasting precious land or time on lawns. The neat turf at the entrance to chateaux was accordingly a status symbol nobody could fake. It boldly proclaimed to every passerby: ‘I am so rich and powerful, and I have so many acres and serfs, that I can afford this green extravaganza.’ The bigger and neater the lawn, the more powerful the dynasty. If you came to visit a duke and saw that his lawn was in bad shape, you knew he was in trouble." Jello is a fucking front lawn.

I even tried my hand at fixing it such as omitting the peppers and celery, adding Ritz and the right kind of cheese that idiot chose American when it's cheddar that pairs with sweets. Even seen if I couldn't fix his order a bit because the pineapple would be not breaking down the jello if it wasn't mixed in jello but the cool whip. I've long thought that Aunt Myrna must have accidentally combined the recipes for some sort of ambrosia salad and a breakfast casserole. The gelatin looks like egg, and the pimento, celery, bell pepper and cheddar cheese make sense for an egg dish. Meanwhile, the pineapple, cream cheese, cool whip and nuts makes sense for an old school chilled dessert. It's like she saw two similar looking dishes and put them together like Rachel's beef trifle from friends.
@cosmicmatt
@cosmicmatt Жыл бұрын
I think if I were trying to make the dessert version and keep as much of the original recipe as possible, I'd strain the pineapple, add coconut cream with the cream cheese instead of cool whip, maybe go with agar agar instead of jello, and top with honey roasted macadamia nuts instead of pecans. And then just go full breakfast casserole for the savory one with pimentos, bell pepper, cheddar cheese, eggs, sausage and throw some scallions in there. There's genuinely two normal recipes in there beneath the dementia.

B Dylan Hollis did a 7-up salad that's pretty similar to this, just without the celery or peppers (and i think it used real cream). i can see some Southern recipe adding pimento though.

i love the "movie night with the bros" aspect so much, but i gotta be the party pooper and say that lately i noticed that this friend group atmosphere took away a lot of the learning and explanation segments which i loved the most about these videos. Please try to retain more of it 🙏

Mixing the sweet and savory can pay off. One of my favorite desserts is kanom krok from Thailand which is a coconut custard/pancake topped with green onions. It is quite delicious.

I still want to see you two take on recreating Jack's recipes, with two main approaches- one, to use all his ingredients, but actual chef skills, to make something edible, and two, to just recreate them to make each other suffer lol

And also, maybe, the two of you doing your take on his recipes, trying to create something that fits the spirit of it but is actually good. Like if you and Frenchie put your heads together to make a dish that could rightfully be called a "party cheese salad", what would you make? Especially if it had to fit the guidelines of being both sweet and savory, containing a fruit and a vegetable? I'd love to see what you two would come up with!

Jack had a recipe that was almost right actually he just added two things that effed it up and it was peppers and celery. That and the wrong cheese cause cheddar pairs with sweet not American. But the rest is actually from cheesy pineapples recipe.

B. Dylan Hollis does videos baking from older recipe books from the 1900s some are good. There are also the somewhat bizarre recipes like the Jello salads but he actually does a good job both recreating the dishes using real recipes while making it humorous.

Suggestion that y'all do commentary on a Future Canoe video, cause it would be cool to have a pro chef opinion on when the recipe just doesn't work or why it does. And the contrast with the deadpan would be awesome lol.

God bless her soul, my grandma who passed away years ago used to make a dish like this every Christmas and Easter, it looked so gross I never tried it. Everyone I talked to said it was common for post depression low income families to have these odd jello salads. Never was there pimentos, but I remember the fruit and cheese and nuts making me lose my appetite just looking at it. RIP grandma, miss you!

There's this Filipino food called Maja Blanca, that's basically like this without the veggies. Substitute the coolwhip and cream cheese with coconut milk and regulate the amount of pineapple and you'd have yourself a maja blanca.

Of course that made it super easy to relate to you and your chill personality. Watching your content has been helping me through a very difficult time. Thank you again, and hope you’re doing well.

I remember growing up, my mom would make Jell-o molds with lime Jell-o, cabbage and carrots all mixed together. I think she called it a Jell-o salad and was definitely a "stay in your seat at the table until you finish it" kind of things. I really couldn't stomach it. Sometimes there were raisins and carrots in orange gel too. Weird stuff! LOL

Just for the record, and this is unconfirmed, I have heard that, yes, this recipe looks pretty gross, but it apparently does taste good if you make it correctly. I've seen KZbinrs and TikTokers try the recipe after watching Jack's video or Aunt Myrna's original video that basically say "It looks gross, it sounds gross, but it does taste pretty good." So, it's possible that they have bad taste, but if you make the recipe yourself and do it correctly it might end up tasting pretty good.
