The people asked and I answered. Chef Paul is back and with a bottle of wine this time. We check out Cooking With Jack's Lazy Man's Omelette. While not technically an omelette, it technically probably doesn't taste good either.
So some love by smacking the like button on the original video : • Lazy Man's Omelette

so actually, my family has something called "Family Reunion" every year where 100+ relatives from all over the world show up and go camping together. this boiled omelet is a quick and easy way to feed a bunch of people a good egg breakfast exactly the way they want it without a huge amount of work or fuss. its also good for line cooks feeding military or schools where you can have each person fill a bag with ingredients put in a couple of eggs at the end and then name it and throw it in a pot of boiling water and itll be ready in a couple of minutes. i loved this method of cooking eggs especially for large groups. and before you bash the plastic bags, there are slow cooking bags that are plastic that saves you on cleaning your crock pot or slow cooker so there must be safe plastics that you can use.

This Jack fellow is a fool. Putting those three plastic ziptag bags in a pot of boiling water is just inviting polyethylene in your food. Which is responsible for why there is an uplift in people who are part of the "Pride Flag".

It's amazing how it seems like in every one of Jack's videos, he will take a singular bite out of whatever he's eaten, and then do his best to cut away or end the video. I don't think we've seen him take more than one bite out of anything he's made, with the exception of maybe the French Onion Soup that he made. It's like he knows he's messed up whatever he's made, he's already afraid to eat it, but he's mustered up the will power to take the one bite and run.

100 pleats in a toque represent the supposed 100 ways to cook an egg. A bunch of us in culinary school, including an instructor, tried to list off every way to cook an egg without looking them up and we got stumped in the 60's. But we were being stubborn and not allowing every minute of boiled egg to count as a separate way and things like that. If you start counting all of those you probably blow past 100 easily.

IN JACK'S DEFENCE if you need to feed, like 50 people at once and you don't have a bunch of equipment, this is a great way to serve *scrambled eggs* (these aren't omelets lmao). Like 2 decades ago my dad did this for a scout camping trip for a bunch of people and you can crank them out fast. And like he said everyone is eating simultaneously; you aren't getting that no matter how good of a chef you are. But good lord Jack add some damn salt and pepper god damn.

I think the ONE redeeming quality in this recipe is that you COULD do it on a camping trip, and you'd have everyone get a made-to-order omelet, and they'd all be done at the same time. They'd all be pretty shitty, but what do you expect, you're camping. I think he made a huge fail by calling this a "lazy man's omelet" when realistically it's just a "camping omelet," and if you're not camping with several people eating at the same time, it's actually more effort than just doing it properly.

As someone who likes making fancy food but has worked in diners and buffets, I tend to talk about three types of omelettes: the French omelet and the diner omelette like you mentioned, and what I call the buffet omelette, which is when you have a bunch of pans in front of you on super-high flame, toss some butter and fillings in for a quick high-temperature saute, pour in the eggs, cook until half-set, flip the whole thing, add cheese if desired, fold, flip one more time to keep the halves even, and serve. The texture and flavor is more like a fritatta, but it's shaped like the home-version of a diner omelette (you know, that classic semicircle, where a flat-top diner omelette is usually a roll), and it's _super_ fast. I could probably pump out one per minute of those with four or five pans. Incidentally, when I want a super-lazy omelette or to get a half-dozen people eating at the same time with only one or two pans, that's my usual go-to method, but part of the beauty of omelet(tte)s is that they take longer to eat than to cook, so I'm more likely to go diner-style and just sit down to eat my own while the first person is halfway done. As for Jack's... Unsalted (eggs need salt! and they don't _need_ black pepper, but it's also never a bad thing), half-cooked steamed vegetables, warmed-up ham with no browning, half-mixed, over-cooked, and steamed. (At least the cheese is probably melted.) Also, why leave air in and burp the bags instead of getting most of the air out in the first place? Seven-to-fifteen minutes (I haven't worked in a kitchen in over a _decade_ and I could probably still do two or three from opening the fridge to serving in fifteen minutes)... How is this lazy or omelette? I know you mentioned fritatta, and filling-wise that's probably right, but I think the texture is probably more like a gyeran-jjim someone left cooking for two or three times as long as it should. I absolutely agree with Frenchie that lazy people are more effecient... To a point, at least. We've all worked with that guy who's so lazy he doesn't actually do any work, of course. But, I'm pretty lazy myself, and I think everyone thinks I'm a super-hard worker because I spend so much time organizing and putting away and jump right on a job when it comes in, when in reality I want everything I need exactly where I expect it to be so I don't have to go looking and opening new packages in the middle of a job, and to get the job done so I can go back to goofing off!

Isn't there also that japanese omlete? The very difficult one which is like a pouch of creamy egg that you split open over rice.

@@noahlovotti7722 The omelette in omurice and the seasoned rolled omelette (tamagoyaki), and akashiyaki (like takoyaki, but the batter is almost all egg) are indeed Japanese egg dishes that could be called omelettes, and there are countless more variations throughout the world. I was just talking about the omelettes commonly made in the US.

@@kayaa5359 what's funny is I watched Jack as a kid too and his poor mans and lazy man series actually had a few bangers as a kid. there's one where he uses the oven to make one and that one i used up till a few years ago when i learned i like the french styles better. for some reason I didn't even see a lot of his really weird stuff until a decade later when it's a trend between multiple channels to react to the guys weird content.

I'm trying to think of when this might be a viable choice. And all I can come up with is on a space station with zero gravity. Then maybe it's a a way to cook without frying...but at that point just use an MRE or something. 😅

A much easier way to make individual portions of egg would be with a Muffin tray. Put some oil in the tray, let the onions and stuff fry in the oben for 2 minutes or so, egg on top, stir, bake.

No amount of tobasco sauce will save this food. The part that truly bothers me with Jack's food is that you just know for a fact that he'll never actually eat and finish the dishes. So he's sitting there making uncooked meat dishes and stuff and never eating it. Just meaning that the animals died for no reason what so ever.
