I know that GIGN has a huge cooperation with the US Delta-Force. The strong point of GIGN and his advantage on classic police swat teams is its military statute and skills, which give it skillfulness and power. For example, they can arrest a drug trafficker near to Paris and the next week be in Afghanistan hunting talibans, or be airdrop off the coast of Benghazi to take back the french embassy in a country plunged into civil war (they did it in 2011). They get stronger and more tough with such various missions.

Anyway in my opinion they are the best non-sf counter terrorism unit in the world (the best sf counter-terrorism unit in the world to me is the french marine commando especially the Hubert one)

No the french equivalent of the US Navy Seals are the Commandos Marine (they are the French Navy Special Forces). The equivalent of the GIGN is the FBI Hostage Rescue Team (FBI HRT). The GIGN isn't part of the French COS (Special Operations Command) and therefore not part of the French Special Forces like the Commandos Marine or the 1erRPIMa (French SAS) are. The GIGN is simply an elite tactical unit of the Gendarmerie that just happens to be so good at what it does or so popular that you see some people comparing it to the British SAS (when there is a French SAS) or to the US Navy Seals (when the Commandos Marine exist) hahahaha. In french military circles, many consider the Commandos Marine (the Commando Hubert specifically) to be the best unit France has to offer... The Commando Hubert is the "best of the best" basically and is the french equivalent of DEVGRU/SEAL Team Six.
