Romance-do LOL! That lifeless cold pat in the back is the verbal equivalent of "te estimo" in Spanish. For some reason it has a bad connotation. À l'oral, many times it's not about denotation but all about connotation. It just sounds so fake (especially when accompanied with a pat on the back lol).
