Have you ever considered using a mutagen like camphor to try and produce a gygas polyploid?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi3 жыл бұрын
no but I will look more into this! Thanks!
@ladymyco86932 жыл бұрын
Would that perhaps mean he could produce the sticky lids in advance of sterilization and the camphor mutagen in one step by possibly applying a light rub of an OTC camphor “salve” on the top(/bottom depending on perpsective) of the lids before sterilization and hope to promote even slightly more sterility and certainly control of the application of mature spore-beating fruit to the lids as well as producing the appropriate atmosphere(literally😆) of the camphor mutagen to possibly produce more, more frequent polyploidal crossings… I wonder!!! Off to reading more, however, Michael, I would love to hear insight from whatever your background is knowing clearly more about this subject!!!

Great work! Do the Cordyceps require any light for pinning? Maybe the presence of light is inhibiting them? Inspirational stuff.

Really great video. But what is this Process supposed to do?
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi24 күн бұрын
it generates new strains/ reinvigorates the cordyceps - these are very susceptible to senescence so this process keeps them fresh

Is is 79degrees too warm for cordyceps? What is the best temp for mycelium growth vs fruiting temps
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi7 ай бұрын
it would be cutting it close. Ideally I fruit mine around 63F and incubate around 72F - give or take a few degrees

Hi Gary! Thanks for the video! One question, how often would you say should one start new from spore? I think you mentioned once a year, but other say every 4-5 years. Is that once a year for cordyceps only? Thanks again
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi2 жыл бұрын
it depends on the species and strain, cordyceps degrades relatively quickly so more often for that one. Other strains can last years or even decades. I breed my weakest strains over winter

Gary, a small clarification that you said they senesce quickly ,does that apply to the dikaryotic mycelium or even the single ascospore mycelium. i mean im asking this cause say i have two spores that are producing a commercial strain then if the spores dont senesce then hopefully i can pair both of them whenever i want and hence use them forever.
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi2 жыл бұрын
yes I think if they are stored on slants and kept cool out of the light it will last a long time - this is a very subjective topic and is strain dependent and species dependent, I will do a video

Thanks, love watching your videos . Oh in a comment to someone else on here he compared you to Clark Kent, but I suggested no more like a Carl Sagan of the mushroom KZbinrs.
@FreshfromtheFarmFungi3 жыл бұрын
hey thanks I love Carl Sagan! the lights used are LEDs that you can control the specs on and are set to 50% blue/50% purple - UV is black light and is a different wavelength- it may still work but it is slightly different

@FreshfromtheFarmFungi2 жыл бұрын
“long time” is very subjective. I just ran off this same stock 4 months later and got great results. It will degrade over time and this process will need to be repeated again.

@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi I agree, though actually enjoyed it uncut at 1x. The music was my only detractor. I like that type of music, but I had to mute after some time. Keep doing long form videos please, because it's eye opening for a mycology novice like myself. I have so much theoretical knowledge but no practical knowledge or proper experience, and your videos, especially in long form, are the perfect bridge between that gap. Thanks and good work.
