As an atheist (at least as far as an anthropomorphic God goes) I've had a similar experience. Shoeless Joe is another Catholic youtuber I've found interesting. Though I might disagree with a lot of the theology I've found Catholic contemplative traditions incredibly inspiring in my own personal spiritual practice.

it's amazing to see an young monk in habits, from the developed world. I'm an Indian Catholic priest working in a parish. I'd a different impression on the western christianity. It is graceful to see an young man who dedicated totally for the kingdom of God amidst all the affluence. It must be a challenging example for hundreds of young catholics to embrace such vocation. please do upload more videos on the life pattern of modern monks and the importance of their presence in today's society.

I've been away from the Church for a really long time, like off and on,mostly off for over 20 years. I still identify myself as Catholic and I always will. I want to go back but I'm afraid to. I don't want to talk about why I left in a public forum, but I'm wondering if you can give me advice/help to help me return to the Church. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give. P. S. I loved how you said that the Cubs would win the World Series! I'm a Cubs fan to the core!

Hi Jane, thanks for watching and reaching out. I'm happy to help in a general way, and if you send me a personal message I can give you some advice. That said, I have to say that I cannot offer spiritual direction per se, and will ultimately suggest that you reach out to someone in person.

Hi Br. Casey - Thank you for getting back to me. I will most definitely appreciate any advice you can give me. I totally understand that it's going to be by slow initial steps of getting back to the Church and for me, it's the way it has to be. When you hear what happened to me, I think you'll understand why I need to cautiously proceed. Let's just say that I really never intended to leave the Church nor was it with doctrinal issues. I further understand that I will need to connect with a spiritual director where I live in California, but I'm not ready to do that at the moment. So, should I send you a private message through your Facebook page? Is that the best way to proceed? If so, I'll write to you over the weekend. Again, thanks! Jane

Hey Br. Casey, I have a question. Can a Franciscan recite the pledge of a country?
@BreakingInTheHabit7 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with being patriotic or pledging allegiance to a country. The problem comes when the commitment to one's country contradicts one's commitment to our baptismal call. Being proud in one's culture or country is a good thing; being proud to the extent that we have to hurt or put down others to protect ourselves is not.

I have had some very unpleasant and uncomfortable experiences with them, and I now dislike them to the degree where even at mass, I bluntly REFUSE to pray for them in the eucharistic prayer where we pray 1st for the holy Father and then the Bishops etc etc. I will happily pray for the priests and people at large, but when it comes to Bishops, I can feel my bloodpressurerising, and I just clam up. I won't even go to a church anniversary or whatever if I know one of that lot are going to be there. What's your advice on THAT one.

@BreakingInTheHabit7 жыл бұрын
There is no official color that a Franciscan has to wear. The habit comes from St. Francis' desire to look like the poor, who, in the 13th century, wore un-dyed cloth, ranging from gray to off white to brown. The friars have maintained that tradition over the years.
