It is just crazy that Doctors do not get nutrition training in Medical schools. Every doctor visit should include some nutrition discussion. The majority of the population is over weight or obese leading to high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. Schools and hospital cafeterias should be leading the way to good health by setting the example of what is a healthy meal and teaching people what to eat and why.. Every person in the hospital for heart disease should have a nutrition class before being checked out from the hospital with follow up education and training in nutrition. Medicare and Medicaid should require patient nutrition education as part of their standard of care. Nutrition information should be run on the hospital TV channel.

I'm very "pro-doctor" and I get irritated when people think they know better than medical professionals but Im also shocked that doctors don't have up to date information on diet and nutrition. A working doctor doesn't have time to do what Dr Gregor does and read all the new research but why can't they do like a half day training every year or two so they're up to date on what we know? The end result is most doctors regurgitating what they were taught a healthy diet was years ago and then less experienced doctors parroting that. I work in the NHS and we still have posters with like that pie chart of a plate on with meat and fish and dairy on there! I'm always shocked about the papers like "why don't we tell people to be vegetarian in official advice?" And the response is "it's too much to ask they won't want to" ... But some people might want to and they don't know the right information because you're too shy to tell them that eating meat every single day multiple times isn't really what a normal human body wants to do!

@@sorel7342 Pro doctor? Seven doctors in my practice deny long covid exists even though there are now long covid clinics. Most are clowns
@sorel73422 жыл бұрын
@@pauldavid167 ok I'm really sorry you set me off on an essay about doctors and their pros and cons. You don't have to read it sorry! I weirdly enjoyed writing it.. but doctors have done years and years of training to learn about very complex processes in the body and they've studied the culmination of a few hundred years of scientific and evidence-based study. Like gps (for example) are expected by some to know all the most up to date research on very specific disorders otherwise they get called a quack when really they just don't specialise in that area, like an amount that some people spend their whole careers on people expect drs to know about because they read it somewhere on google. But GPs know a massive massive amount about the body, illnesses, medications and their interactions with eachother, mental health, children too like they know SO much. Obviously that's terrible, long COVID is a huge problem and a THING but I work in the health service (not a doctor myself though) and I haven't met any who deny long COVID and actually in my service we work on long COVID a lot and none of my patients have told me their doctor denied it either. I work in mental health so some people come to my service for support with the mental effects of having long COVID and other physical problems too. I don't think doctors know everything and the fact that people expect them to is probably a really hard part of their job. But they also know a lot more than I do and they know a lot more than random internet sources which often tell people very concerning stuff.. there are people who make money online telling people with cancer that they shouldn't have chemotherapy or radiotherapy and should really try positive thinking instead, which is ghastly and dangerous. I think if a lot of people go about saying doctors are quacks then it leaves us really vulnerable to the worst kind of grifters. The dunning kruger effect is that idea that you don't know what you don't know so people think they know a lot more about some things than they do. Scientists have also found that effect is more pronounced when it's about common or familiar knowledge (that's why lots of people kind of aren't that worried about climate change because they feel like they know the weather as it's so familiar and it doesn't seem to have changed that much.. whereas you don't get so many people who don't know about computers complaining that they could have written the code that supports KZbin's dislike system better than the coders and that coders are quacks - cos that knowledge is not familiar to those of us who haven't studied it). We all have bodies, we all feel familiar with them and are experts in our own sensations and we all hear about illnesses in people around us. But that's just not the same level of knowledge that being a doctor is, it's barely in the same universe as the amount they know but like we don't know what they do.. so we assume we know more than we do Having said that I have a LOT of problems with doctors and the way they are trained. For example, I think they can be very negligent when overweight or obese people have health problems, constantly telling them to lose weight and there are countless stories of doctors missing serious conditions because they put everything down to weight rather than doing the tests they'd have done if a skinny person came in with that issue.. Then often the only solution to it is "don't be fat" which most obese people already know and theres probably a reason they can't just stop being fat or they they would plus like we said, they then don't have up to date advice to give them on diet science either! They also can act as gatekeepers to specialist care giving them a massive amount of power even if there's something they aren't well trained in.. eg you hear of GPs blocking referrals to gender transition services because they don't 'believe' in it even though it's illegal for them to do that and they might not have had any training in that area at all. I also spoke to a surgeon (a friend's boyfriend and I didn't really like him in the end) who said he usually refuses to operate on young women with abdominal pain "because it's always just mental health and you'll get stuck with them for life if you operate".. not ideal! Also at a uni near me the students had to start a petition to learn about dermatology WITH pictures of what these problems look like on darker skin. So like they are learning "this rash is dangerous and can mean you have something that can kill you and this one is an allergic reaction to washing powder" but their text books only had pictures of what those things look like on white people! And we wonder why for some reason people from non-white backgrounds don't have as good outcomes in the healthcare system?! So yeah I have tons of problems with doctors but I still am aware they know far more than I do and I hate when random people say they know better than them because 90% of the time they don't and if they're trying to convince you they do, unless they have the studies to back it like Dr Gregor, I'd say be wary

Just stumbled upon this 2021 study (Potential Protective Protein Components of Cow's Milk against Certain Tumor Entities): "With the wealth of results available today, the influence of milk on the development of various types of cancer and, in particular, its often protective effects have been shown both in vitro and in vivo and in the evaluation of large-scale cohort and case-control studies. Various caseins, diverse whey proteins such as α-lactalbumin (α-LA), bovine α-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells (BAMLET), β-lactoglobulin (β-LG), or bovine serum albumin (BSA), and numerous milk fat components, such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), or butyrate, as well as calcium and other protein components such as lactoferrin (Lf), lactoferricin (Lfcin), and casomorphines, show antitumor or cytotoxic effects on cells from different tumor entities. With regard to a balanced and health-promoting diet, milk consumption plays a major role in a global context. Why does greg ignore thst simple proven fact? Yes, we can argue that modern non-organic dairy contains lots of antibiotics and the same can be said about modern (non-organic) meat. This does NOT mean that all dairy and meat is horrible for you and causes cancer. Heme-iron in meat for example is best absorbed by the body, plant iron is NOT.
