I saw Anderton's raving review of the DSM DLX and considered buying that but then saw the IR-X. Now I feel I should hold off until all the dust has settled. I love the boost feature on this amp but like the built-in reverb and the ability to combine both channels on the DSM. I'm retired but still own 7 amps so I don't really "need" either of these but I like the idea of a analog/tube pre-amp on my pedal board. I would really, really appreciate some inputs!

Hey my friend, I did not have a fire, but unfortunately, my wife passed away and due to my expenses I had to give up my house and sell off a lot of gear. This actually gave me the alternative of selling off several amplifiers that I had a fortune tied up, and my wife always complained about those amplifiers. There’s only two things in life I love our loved was her And my guitars and apps I guess that’s three really but this has given me a way to hang onto the hundred watt amplifiers I did have, and at least keep rock in a little bit so I do get it man because her unexpected death cost so much that And lost income due to her not being here and working anymore you know, given up the house and everything it’s just like getting restarted as a musician Was working full-time as a guitarist but I also had to get a real job lol my wife was really supportive of my music since our kids are grown now and college was paid for 49 years old. It’s really screwed up man you think everything‘s worked out we were smooth out the kids are grown. Just doesn’t make sense things sometimes. Peace man. Good luck on getting your equipment rebuilt I just bought a deputy victory amplifier also and Man with this plugged into it. I should be good to go sold my Friedman amps had a collection of them and my marshals vintage ones too but with the victory and Friedman stuff it is easily replaced. I can see only doing small gigs now anyway too busy being depressed and wallowing and apathy.

Absolutely beautiful! Nails the Friedman amp sound. I preferred the direct out sound to the miced amp sound too for once. This puts me in mind of the Iridium, but sounds much much better and has a real boost option along with some better I/O features. Be nice if the cleans were a little less compressed, but one doesn't get this preamp pedal for it's Fendery cleans and high clean headroom. If one wants that then the Fender Tonemaster Pro is going to be the answer. Eagerly awaiting that video!

Excellent demo guys! Only one problem, at the end when you hooked it up to the FX return of the amp, I believe you HAVE to use the FX send of the IR-X otherwise you're feeding the power amp emulation to the other tube amp (power amp on top of power amp), that's why the EQ is a little wonky when you did that.

Totally agree with the Dave's ethos here. Just give us a simple unit with knobs to turn. I had a helix LT for years, I would spends hours endlessly tweaking eq and high cuts and low cuts. Sold the LT and now use UA dream 65 and Ruby 63, it's so much more fun and easy having single units that model just a great amp, here's your 6 IRs, turn thr knobs and what you see is what you get.

What is nice about this is that it can be connected in several different ways making it absolutely versatile. Heck if you really wanted to I suppose you could run it into the instrument input jack and use it like a tube overdrive pedal. What impresses me most is what you are getting for the price. Sweetwater here in the US has these for 499 USD, given what some modeler pedals run for the Friedman is a steal really.

Yea. People are holding on to nostalgia of the 80s where they had 10 100w marshals running into 4x12s. It's more of a "stuck in their ways" thing. Now for the modern heavy guitar player looking for a minimumlest rig. By golly friendman kills it with anything he touches. Is there something about a 100w super lead cranked to 10 with the warmth of the head heating your whole house and a 4x12 kicking you in the chest? Yes, will this get you 99.9% close? Absolutely. There is something about having a physical amp and cabinet that many will put up with hauling them around. But this product is pure gold

So I read about 30 posts and no one mentioned it, so here goes: You could always swap pre-amp tubes. Channel 1 to get a little more clean out of it with a different tube (12AT7 maybe?). I am not sure what tube brand (or country they’re from), BUT if you like to roll tubes, and depending on how hard it is to access them, that could always be a possibility too for different tones? 🤷‍♂️😉

Two things that impress me about this is that the "into amp" recording to my ears didn't sound any better than the direct recording. Also the price. I assumed this would be much more expensive, but it's not a hell of a lot more than a UA Dream 65, which makes it a competitor against boxes like that. I might actually consider this as a direct recording solution.

This is exactly exactly what I've been looking for. I have a Helix with a bunch of amp options, and I only ever use the same Plexi with the same settings and roll off the volume knob on the guitar. I would much rather have an actual tube sound for this like my old Marshall reissue had, but with the same convenience. Since this and the Helix both have loops, I should be able to run echoplex-like effects in front of the IR-X (Van Halen 1) and then run other effects in the loop as I see fit. Van Halen tone 2023 edition.

Really nice one from Friedman! The only downside I see to these I/O features, however, is that if you opt to go into the power section of an amplifier/cab for that on-stage cab monitoring sound AND ALSO send the balanced out to the FOH desk, you can then basically have your time-based FX-Loop effects through the real amp/cab section of your sound only, since you'd have to send your signal from the FX-Send of the IR-X. The cab then has to be miced up and send to the desk anyways for your reverbs, delays, etc. to be part of your sound in the FOH, which to me kind of makes the balanced out option with its built in IRs a bit redundant - quite unfortunate... Two outputs on the unit (one balanced with the IRs and one unbalanced to go to an amp power section), leaving the FX-Loop of the unit alone like some Two Notes products do it (the Le-Preamp series comes to mind), would have been a more elegant solution in my honest opinion and would have totally sealed the deal! Maybe I am missing something, @FriedmanAmplification ? Or maybe that slight inconvenience only applies to players who have some very specific time-base-FX and want to co cab monitoring AND FOH at the same time, which may not be that many, so I understand... A small ON/OFF switch for the IRs on the unit itself would have also been a nice touch, but that's probably a limitation of size, cost, components, etc. Nice preamp overall though.

It's a preamp, not a proper amp, so you can't run it direct into an unpowered cab and expect much of anything. You'll want to run the output to a PA (any powered speaker solution). If you want to use it with a guitar amp cab, you'll need a power amp (like the seymour duncan powerstage). The caveat here is that you'd have to disable the cab simulation, which... seems like it needs to be plugged into a PC to do?

1) I can't play on a real amp in my apartment, would this work with bass and midi synth as well? I'm not a big gear head but if I could theoretically use this with all my instruments it would definitely add value. Clerk at a boutique hipped me to this unit yesterday while I was picking up some pickups. 2) Nice kicks Pete! I haven't seen those old school, pre-Jordan Nikes since like 1982.

Whether you’d want to use this with bass/synth really depends on what sound you want. For me, it does not work well for either of those. The EQ emphasis here is really on the top end, so your bass will sound thin. For a bass you would do much better with something like an Origin Effects Bassrig pedal. For a midi synth, I’m not sure you need a special pedal for that - just go direct.

This would give you the Friedman sound for less than a third of his cheapest amp… I’d say it’s a pretty great thing, and it seems like he’s trying to make his sound more available to the masses.

I'm a retired musician (haven't gigged since the pandemic started). I recently sold my BluGuitar Amp1 but still own several large amps along with a THR30II Wireless, a THR100HD and a couple digital modelers. I was going to buy a DSM DLX for my pedal board when I came across this amp. Would this be a better choice for a guy who plays mostly classic rock & pop music? Thanks!

Pretty much just like the unpowered V4 pedals, except with IRs attached! Only problem is you're not going to drive any cabs with this, you would need to have a seymour duncan powerstage to do it (or to use another amp's power amp section to do it).

@@dividedbytimestudiosIt's a no-brainer too, considering that the powered version's selling point is that you can run it into a cab. The powered versions should leave *out* the IR loader, while the preamp ones should have it since they aren't running into a cab. 😵‍💫

I think this is the way forward. Great product! But... the price is crazy. almost 700, which is almost the same price as the SV20H, which is the authentic plexi. I don't know. As all Friedmans, cool products, but price wise I don't get it when they're SOOO much more expensive than Marshall. If this pedal was more like 400, then sure, but at 700..

Friedman is American. In America, those amps are almost 2000$ due to import taxes.
@Tanax13
@Tanax13 Жыл бұрын
@@huntergalloway3944That's precisely the problem. Friedman is pricing this according to Marshall's US prices. By the time Friedman imports these into Europe, he just can't compete. Which is a shame. Like I said, the products themselves are pretty cool. But why pay over double the price for a Friedman trying to sound / improve upon the sound of a Marshall, when you can have an authentic Marshall for less than half the price?

@Tanax13

@@malfeasant_dino That's precisely my point. Did you even read what I wrote? He prices things based on Marshall's US pricing. Which is the issue internationally. He will probably do well in US, but everywhere else, he's not selling too many. Just look at Thomann sales top lists. Hand wired is not as good as PCB. Even Dave has said that PCB is superior in basically every way. So if hand wired only adds to the cost and isn't superior (according to Dave), I would rather get PCB.
