Pete, that new Friedman preamp footpedal sounds really good. Your demo tune demonstrated a wide variety of sounds. I especially like the cleaner, lydian section. I agree with your choice of using the EV IR for the cleaner stuff, it really gave the desired warmth. Wow, what a great demo and great new product! Thanks for this great demo.

I got it used to clone it on my HX Stomp. It is very good. It’s the real thing. Now my Stomp sounds the exact same, I run it in the front of my clean JCM, BUT it was A LOT of tweaking over several days, taking breaks and getting it closer incrementally. The IR-X is totally worth if you prefer analog/ knobs, simplicity, instant professional tone.

The British made 20W Heritage G12M20-75 are 60s era repros with paper formers (that burned out easily). Notice the extra 4kHz+ chime. I really like those. They are a good bit brighter, yet more "woody", than the later GB's with Kapton formers. I mix my G12M20-75 cab IR with a G12H30-55 cab IR for a full sounding vintage tone.
@swmorgan5158 ай бұрын
Wow such a great product. Simple approach with the 2 real tube preamp channels and the digital stuff at the end for the direct side. I have used modelers for a while, but always find myself gravitating to the Marshally tones for both high gain and clean, so this is prefect for me. Seems like a step forward from the really cool idea that was the Atomic firebox, but with the real tube/analog think for the core tone. Pete's videos always give me GAS.

It’s a great preamp… but I managed to copy the channel 2, all knobs at noon, with my HX Stomp. I plan to copy channel 1 also. Running into my tube amp. Same thing, undistinguishable after fine tuning it at separate sessions. It’s a great pedal for someone without a good modeler. Sounds so good.

ok, this is the perfect tool for me. exactly as you describe of not interested in menu's etc. i assume if you wanted to use stereo pedals like delay and reverb after the IR's, they'll have to be able to accept line level. then send through a passive stereo di to desk for live gigs.

Hi Pete, I play bass... But, I love guitar as well, and I highly respect your work, your video’s and demo’s. I watched a few videos on the new Friedman preamp ‘pedal’. I guess it will work great with bass too (and not only the hip higher gain stuff, which I don’t particularly like. I’m a little more old school...). I’ve been using a Koch ‘63OD pedal (as a DI with speakersim.) for bass for a few years and I like it very much, but I think the Friedman (first channel mostly) would do even better for what I’m doing. But, in the bass community there’s not much people like you, that are not just working for specific brands, but only make videos about stuff that’s working for them. Most others just do cheap payed reviews in my bass community... I really think the new Friedman preamp would work out great for working bassists like myself. Better than for instance the new Ampeg thing, because we know: Friedman means quality. Ampeg is not. Others are mostly the same. And many of us working bassists would love a modern tube-preamp with IR’s and real knobs to work with. Not the harder to work with digital stuff. I play in various bands, mostly covers. Songs from The Beatles, The Beachboys, CCR to Bowie, Queen, AC/DC and Van Halen. I really like to use guitar tube preamp pedals as DI’s (with speakersimulation if possible), because they are never too subby and work great with various pedals and with my very simple MarkBass or Taurus amp and Ampeg cabs backline: I get all of the sound with FOH without killing everyone onstage and in the clubs I play mostly. But, I feel the new Friedman can deliver much more for me than the stuff (Koch) I use right now. My favorite bass amps were an old Sound City 100 watt tube head and later a Marshall VB-400. Nice and silky round, but really almost a ‘70’s hifi bass sound (not too much sub low end no one needs). And also loud, too loud, way too loud... I feel the new Friedman can give me that sound again, without being too loud onstage. A 4x12, 2x15, 2x18 and 8x10 as IR’s would be great... I guess this simple pedal could really kill al competition in the bass community: it’s great quality, it’s philosophy is simple, it has knobs that work easily on every gig, an easy to use editor, and it’s here at a great price. Why didn’t David get this? Too busy? I love the man’s work and watch all the video’s he’s in. But bassists love him too! 🤣 Same with Suhr. But they tend to forget about us and leave us with the cheapy bass stuff... My opinion: if a great preamp or amp works great with guitar and has some extra headroom, it will do even better with bass. The preamp is here. Not in need to do extra stuff to it for bass. Just add some nice IR’s. Would you please consider doing a video on this Friedman ‘pedal’ on bass guitar. I’ve heard you playing bass really well and the music you play and love is very broad, and you have great taste. That’s great. If anyone can do a great video on this pedal for bass, it’s you. And you really know the Friedman stuff and Dave’s philosophy. Please consider. Kind regards! 🖖
