Фридрих Вильгельм Михаэль Калькбреннер самый неразгаданый классик пианизм превосходит всех романтиков несомненно

Listening to Kalkbrenner is like listening to Dussek, Chopin, Gottschalk, Alkan and Liszt all-in-one! How is this composer not better-known?

" If Paganini is perfection, Kalk- brenner is his equal, but in quite another style. It is hard to de- scribe to you his calm, his enchanting touch, his incomparable evenness, and the mastery that is displayed in every note; he is a giant, walking over Herz and Czerny and all, - and over me." ~Frederic Chopin

Yes but other reports about him were not so praiseworthy. An insufferable snob pleased with every aspect of himself. He once played a grand improvisation on the spot assuring all that this was the case until the next day when others came across the score note for note as he had played. Still he was an exceptional pianist/composer and there are some worthy compositions which hopefully will become better known.

@@stuartmclaren2402 This is a very interesting little anecdote. I know it was three years ago since you last mentioned it, but can you refer me to the source of this information?

@@wrrichardson Y es it was in cover notes to his First Piano Concerto. There have only been 2 recordings that I know of and this was the Hans Kann version. I have read similar comments in other sources. But his Grande Fantasy Effusio Musica Is a remarkable work. In my opinion it is up there with Hummels Fantasy op 18 of which a number of recordings have been made and Schubert’s famous Wanderer Fantasy. Sadly only one recording of it exists and it wasn’t ever transferred to CD. The pianist Mary Louise Bohm was excellent. I managed to enhance the quality of the you tube posting but cannot buy a CD of it. Another fine work which I have played with a struggle is his “ Introduction and Rondo (based on a favourite duo from the Marriage of Figaro)” There is one recording of it on the net but it is a real fun piece to play

Haha starts like the Liszt sonata for 2 bars: then Weberish/Chopinish with touches of sturm und drang. Hilarious.
