Strat Update for the GTAV Speedrun (September 2019)

There are new strats being found and tested for speedruns constantly, here's whats new over the past 3 months in the GTAV Classic% category.

This video covers all the major changes added into the run - though some of these are new enough I've only done them once or twice in the run. I don't have much to add in the description today, its basically just a strat update and mostly speaks for itself, pretty happy with the video. I /almost/ split it into two videos but figured one mega vod would be better, I hope everything was explained enough without me rushing through it too much. I'm not sure how long it would take to have another confirmed-strat update video, probably 3-4 months again, this isn't a monthly thing, I'm just dating them for easier viewing/understanding.

if you got questions or want to see any of this done live, check me out @ www.twitch.tv/friendlybaron Many people are probably going to ask what Strats i have found myself, so i will answer it here - most strats i have found myself or worked on are older strats from a few months ago. recently, i have been doing my preferred action - instead of finding strats myself, i am usually busy confirming other peoples strat ideas either offstream or in videos like this one. the new routing reloe found i did alot of testing of, and found many little notes about the gauntlet dupes by just doing them within runs. coming up with strats from scratch is not something im very good at nor enjoy much, so i try to give back to the community by helping test as much as i can and confirming what strats are and are not actually faster. its not a requirement for people to make strats anyways, and lately theres been a culture of EVERYONE MUST CONTRIBUTE STRATSwhich isnt right. some people just dont enjoy that side of speedrunning, so no pressure on anyone if its not something they take part in. is just a game fren (if you reply to this comment i will read it but youtube makes it hard to reply to, if you want a reply then add a new comment to the video, not to this pin, thanks

11:10 correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a faster strat? If memory serves right you can set michael on fire with a molotov, which allows you to run at normal speed with the heavy armor. You can skip the whole shootout and carry the fight into the last room, right before you hop on the train

yeah its two separate things really, improving the run's strats but also improving your own play. i could hammer another 2 minutes off the run just by perfecting the driving, and no other changes if i really worked at it

@@FriendlyBaron I would say perfect driving later, or at least somewhat later. I think some of your biggest saves could come from the sections where you get pushed from the cars trying to get in front of you. Granted I don't really know how much time this would actually save you on your runs.

my older series, like casual vs speedrun, had 100s of strats and was basically impossible to credit people on, most of the information was just lost to time, 2013-2014 especially. but these new vids are doing up-to-date strats so i can make a proper effort to credit people in-the-moment.

The running strat can be used in Repossession to get closer to the fence or to run through the alley on right and have the biker spawn in a different location. Both are quicker, but going right is a little harder because it is a hard turn while running that way

yeah. its not actually faster as you have to spend time picking up the mollys. we kind of have a chance to get them now, but shooting as franklin is still faster when done well, and the molotov thing isnt consistent.

i wonder how long it'll take before the classic% time gets destroyed by a major glitch/skip like VC or SA. i'd probably say between 3-5 years, maybe 6 or 7 at most

I asked Powdinet about this (the person who found the skips in VC and SA) and they say its unlikely. GTAV's newer code structure is much more robust and not likely going to have a major skip such as those two games, though there is potential for smaller in-mission things. I think once the current SA skip is perfected Powdinet might take a look at V, but only if they want to :)
