Jordies, I've always loved you, and I still do. I thought your comments about that tree were disrespectful (not racist, but disrespectful) but I stood by you because making one stupid comment doesn't come close to undoing all of the great work you've done over the years. And I'm so glad you manned up and apologised for your remarks. You've shown more backbone, humility and self-reflection than those twitter addicted Pedestrian writers ever have or will. Thank you.

You put my feelings into words. I wasn’t about to stop appreciating all the brilliant journalism the Jordies team does because of one incentive remark. My overall respect certainly would have diminished, however, I know the integrity of the team on their subject matter is close to never questionable (there were a lot of claims in the AUWU clip that were posed as “plz trust us, the people are too scared to go on record”) and despite being passionate about indigenous rights, I knew in my heart any comment made was purely out of misjudgment and not bigoted

Hey Jordie, I get your words about science and all, but it came out all wrong or back to front mate. More a gaffe than racist I mean you could have a crack at religion with that premise as well. Cultural beliefs are not trying to be science either. But I totally agree about the tree. The guy on the phone in the stream is wrong. Vic gov did talk with the Traditional Owners who said there are no trees in that area of cultural significance and gave them the go ahead for the project. It was a splinter group who came in later that set this off. I know them personally as they are my cousins. How do I know all this stuff and do I qualify to speak about it. I was the first Aboriginal Site Officer for Western Victoria. My role was to conduct archaeological surveys and record prehistoric sites. I was trained and work in Western Vic for four years. I did archaeological surveys throughout the area they are talking about, including Gariwerd (Grampians). Yes there are women's birthing trees and scarred trees etc, but I have never heard of or recorded a 'directional tree' in all my time working with Indigenous communities, elders and other archaeologists in the area. Directional Trees are real but exist in North America not Australia. I know who came up with calling it a Directional Tree, she is my cousin and has been to America and is an activist from the old days. She knows that she made it up and all of us who have worked or lived with her know she made it up as well. It got bigger than Ben Hur, bullshit piled on thicker and thicker until the truth didnt matter anymore. This made many of us angry and disappointed. but when we called it out we too were attacked. My brother has worked for years with Vic Roads and is part of the Project's Management team for the highway extension. He too has been physically attacked by other indigenous youth at the site. All a bunch of kids full of fire and purpose but none of it based on the truth. You are right its only a recent tree less than 300 years hence will only have historical value not cultural. It really pisses me off when greedy people sets this crap off manipulating culture to feed their pockets and grasp for power. It is not our way, as we value and respect our culture. Kids these days need to learn their history through both the cultural lens and the scientific lens like I have. Both are knowledge and equally fascinating. Take care Jordies you still have a fan in me. An indigenous Elder and Traditional owner member of the area. P.S: Thanks for donating revenue from this video to the Australian Conservation Foundation. I use to work for them too as their National Indigenous Campaign Coordinator.

Thanks a lot for this top-quality comment! I hope that more people read it. I feel a bit embarrassed now to have supported the movement to protect the tree without actually looking into the cause. It's not the first time that I've supported something that sounded right but turned out to be murky and possibly harmful. At least I stay clear of overseas orphanages and "kids with cancer" type NGOs that mostly do great damage, even when intentions are good. What's your take on the Wangan and Jagalingou fighting Adani? The podcast provides dangerous fuel to that fire, and challenges both your broad credibility as well as the progress you're making. You and your teams work inspires me greatly to have faith that we can emerge from this shit stain time in history to something better, and the podcast from the perspective of someone who feels that way does nothing but put that amazing, brilliant and inspiring work at risk of not being taken seriously.

I feel like Jordan is who he is when he does these videos. His critics are the kind of people who smile in the streets and genocide between the sheets. People with squeaky clean public images are just the people who excel at lying and gaming media. No one is perfect. What matters is how you respond to hurting people you didn't mean to hurt. Most of these dipshits would never consider apology because they think it makes them seem weak. And that is because they _are_ weak; weak of character. Apologising to those deserving it, and attacking the people trying to capitalise on the situation shows compassion and strength. Really undermines the bullshit rhetoric that passes for news these days, and I love it.
@lilmissfires4 жыл бұрын
I never got the doxing of friends or associates. As Jordan said, the people around the person you're trying to "cancel" are generally the loudest in calling out their faults. All people end up doing is harrasing them, and doing nothing more than putting more shit and hate out there towards people that don't deserve it. It's gotta be a lack of self confidence thing, especially as most of these people are open or are straight up publishing their shitty behaviour looking for approval.

What I like most about Jordies, and his oeuvre, is the fact that the more of this "cancelling" is levelled at his door, the more content we get to watch. It's like someone has gone "Right Bruz, hoew kan Weee make Jordiez go away?", and they've pinned their hopes on Jordies having a good time at Bruz Furniture Palace (The Outlet Mall), and an incoherent cultural rambling.
