Congratulations on that. My cardiologist just retired after many years of working in the regional areas, so its not like we don't need them! But it would go a long way in terms of governments helping people start up their own medical business in the country for those who might not necessarily want to make the most money, but do something meaningful where its needed greatly. (plus its all work experience in the end)

When some Sky News devotee tells me everybody at the ABC is a card-carrying commie I ask 'em to name three, then I tell them who the chair is and why she was installed by the Morrison govt to make the ABC kick the shit out of everyone but the Coalition. Ever since I heard many years ago that 47% of Australians are functionally illiterate (2012), I just can't shake the thought that this may be a big reason why we keep ending up with this government. It's now 1 in 8 Australians who are functionally illiterate. That means they get all their news from what's said on TV/radio - they can read but don't, when they do read their comprehensive capabilities are not great, they're not stupid but being able to critically assess information for bias or scrutinise multiple news providers for agenda/hyperbole is impaired... let's face it - literacy skills are more important today than they've ever been. We're a society saturated in media, more so than any other time in history. To be able to navigate the mediascape these days, competent literacy skills are a must, as is the ability to think critically. Add to that how disengaged many are (in politics, currents)... it's no wonder we are where we are. Most of the population is distracted just trying to get by, scrabbling to make ends meet while those at the top do not give a f*ck. And unless you're paying attention (and those of us that are are miserable fucks, often suffering severely with mental health issues like depression/anxiety), you just don't know this shit. No-one is going to tell you, except those that are telling you - and who wants to listen to those depressed fucks? (I say this as a depressed/anxious fuck myself - I've been screaming THE SKY IS FALLING so hard and for so long, even I don't want to hear myself anymore). Shitty situation all round - although, I am truly hopeful that Scummo's blatant disregard for us, as visible and obvious as it is, will finally shunt these bastards off a cliff. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for a strong labor win and a large swing towards the greens - it'd be truly fantastic to see LNP well and truly decimated this election - MAKE IT SO, VOTERS! I believe in you!

Very much of the 'both sides are the same' view Main thing that got through to her? Breaking down what each party stands for & how that affects her life. Especially informing her that Labor gave us medicare & super - two impactful & positive polices that play an important part in our lives. One of the main reasons she chose Aus over USA was healthcare, and she became a nurse years later. Bringing up things like medicare cuts, aged care (low pay & no staff to patient ratios) bungling covid response, bungling disaster responses, rorts while blocking spending on important shit, etc. A video breaking down the two parties & policy differences, what each party has done while in power recently, the propaganda & media framing & creating the narrative, the real unsanitised track record of the LNP, and so on. He will cherry pick stats whenever it suits and criticise legislation thats put through and hiding the fact Labor created them. The Fair Work Act which Jordies criticised heavily which is basically a rebranded version of WorkChoices was Rudd's legislation. The real reason the Greens isn't voted in (despite having a lot of seats in the senate) is because this disinformation is made in the first place. All countries with a two party system are heavily corrupt that's why the least corrupt countries have more than 2 parties in the lower house. Under a 2 party system they scratch each other's back, when there's more parties in the lower house they keep each other accountable. Labor is predominantly funded by corps these days, not solely unions like it used to. To call them a workers party these days is just naive.

What will power electric cars and the hydrogen production if it is not nuclear power? There is only enough minable lithium (80 million tonnes estimated globally) to provide 10kg lithium (lifetime) for the current 8 billion people on the planet. Each EV is going to take how many kilos. Each EV will deprive perhaps 30 of the desperately poor that have no access to technology of their lifetime supply of smartphone batteries. How will the toxic elements of a solar array be decomposed in the environment? - They can't they are elements. Refined by humans and then dispensed/disposed into an environment that will not be ready for it. How much money and how fast do you want to throw money at these problem generators and how much would you want to keep aside to mitigate the damage and clean up required in the course of this process. Act first think later - but as long as you are in the herd of sheep you are protected / free from responsibility, right?

We are at under 350partpermillion of carbon dioxide. The earth has experienced multiple times 100s greater concentrations. Each time its gone above 3500ppm we get trees turning into fruit trees. @@schuhey7021 Fact checking was an example, but we both know there are plenty of other examples where social media make decisions on content that is not illegal. Even if we stick with just the fact checking for the sake of conversation, it's a form of editorialisation. The moment they make editorial decisions is the moment they move from a carriage service (ie we just provide a means of communication and take no responsibility on content other than with a court order) to a moderated platform. They then take responsibility for *ALL* content. In terms of revealing personal information, I could not agree more. You are completely completely correct. Just look at the misuse the metadata laws has experienced. Unconscionable. My point is just that social media platforms can't play both sides of the argument. They're either a carriage service (like your mobile provider) where they just facilitate conversations and obey takedown laws as received, or they are a publisher where they take an active interest in the content. They can't have it both ways.
