If you notice, zoltraak have black color, but the one frieren and fern used is white. It has been hinted from the start that what they used was not the same zoltraak

Lugner's monologue talking about Frieren with that epic OST in the background gives me the chills every time, Frieren the goat, we've only seen her chill up until now, polishing statues and planting flowers, but she's indeed the mage who went around the world killing demons on sight and killed the Demon King with Himmel's party.

The word "sousou(葬送)" in sousou-no-Frieren means "to see off the dead" or "to bury one's enemies" in Japanese. Therefore, the English translation of the title of this work in English is "Frieren the undertaker," which is the closest nuance.

I love the flashback with the demon girl, the way Himmel says "No" when Frieren asks if He's going to stop her again. He's just so defeated. This show does such an incredible job at showing the complexity of heroism, how sometimes Himmel fucked up and made a bad call too, and he had to carry that weight for the rest of his life, yet even through that he remained a beacon of hope for the world, and he still does even after his death.

@@Scyon13, not really, original Zoltrack was black, Frieren and Fern version is white, other mages use white version too. i think Frieren didn't modify the one SHE use, she modify the one EVERYONE use. Lugner said she contribute significantly in humanity analysis of Zoltrack, so i guess she modifyed it in the process. i mean, why would you have a weapon against everyone's enemy for yourself, if you can give it to everyone so they can kill them too?

@@Circle9ru ordinary offensive magic is can be modified into more specific versions Fern even uses different versions against Ehre and Lugner. I'm sure the other mages know how to use it but I doubt many of them have encountered a demon outside of Denken and Wirbel, thus they have no need to use it or recognize the value of perfecting it. Ehre even says it's impractical because young mages are taught to fight defensively so they don't bother using the stronger version as it's seen as a waste of mana. Fern even creates another version in the Manga, look at what Fern shoots at Ehre then look at she shoots at the Frieren clone, they are not the same thing. I guess you could just say it's a more tuned version than a different spell entirely.

@@Scyon13, dude, the thing is, Zoltrack was analyzed 30 years ago iirc, after that it was added to magic system. so mages now learn the version of it that was added back then. and Frieren was there, if even demons know she did a lot for it, you can say she difinitely was there. my point is that she modified it back then and now all mages use demon killing version. its proven by the fact that Frieren clone use black one, so as Lernen(there is still a chance its not modofied Zoltrack, but some other spell). so original Zolrtack was black not because its demon spell, but because of what effect it had in it. and now every mage use white Zoltrack, even against humans. and btw, we didn't see a single human get killed by it, even if they got knocked out by it with thier last mana gone for barrier, like Denken or Ehre, so may be its less lethal for humans and more lethal for demons(less lethal doesn't mean not lethal tho, since they killed clones by it).

The line they translated into "Frieren the Slayer" is the Japanese title of the anime: 葬送のフリーレン, so episode 8 ended with a title drop. Also, Fern's been using Zoltraak since she was a child. It's the first spell we see her use in the anime.

From its manicure to its defeat, Dragon vs Stark animation: 30 seconds. The story based on after Himmel's death, adding 50 years for the Meteor Shower one, it's been a long time since they defeated demon king (adding 10 years before when they started the journey), it means humans who saw or experienced days of the demon king's terror and received or knew the deeds of hero party, most of them are probably dead or too old to remember things now or they were too young to know things back then. Like Flamme, slowly hero party's stories become like fairy tale. Imagine us nowadays here, how much we remember the deeds of a hero from 80 years ago? Demon magic is kinda different than humanity magic. Humanity is like for human, elves, dwarves...

Michael, ordinary offensive magic is Zoltraak. If you go back to the episode with Qual, this was explained: after the fight with Qual and he was sealed, humans analysed Zoltraak and went on to imbed it into the foundations of human magic. Now, ordinary magic has Zoltraak in it. This means that the ordinary magic that Fern was using when she was a child? That was Zoltraak.

Fun little fact Michael: Aura supposed regained her power 28 years ago, the same time ago Himmel died. Now it could be a coincidence but i don't think so. She might have regained her power sooner, but might have waited till the Hero Himmel was no more. I could be stretching, but i think it just shows how HIM Himmel really was.

The ``my magic'' that Qual said before his death is recovered here. He wanted to say, maybe, that Frieren, you stole and developed my magic. Also, "Slayer" is a mistranslation, and Lügner's lines in Japanese are the same as the title of the show. Japanese viewers were treated to a dramatic reversal in which the story's title, ``Frieren have seen off many of her dead friends,'' was actually derived from a nickname given to him by the demons.

All of the Demons were scared of Himmel so much that they only started to take action when he died. Himmel is HIM. Also, Demon Magic is very hard (or at least takes a long time) to analyze. There is also no category of Elven Magic, instead elves just use Human Magic. The difference between Demon Magic and Human Magic will be explained further in the series.

Fern has always knew how to use Zoltraak, the spell she cast to make a hole in the rock when she was little is Zoltraak or ordinary offensive magic, she already learnt it because its ordinary offensive magic. And Frieren did not use Draht magic, she use different magic, you can know this by looking at visual, they are different. And it doesnt matter if Frieren is an elf, the spells she is using is known as Humanity magic

I'm happy that they showed early that demons despite being able to talk, doesn't feel anything... They don't have any family concept, no sense of justice even for their own kind....they even have to keep their mana at full potential so that they can being in fight with weak demons.... It ended the confusion of them being pitiful

A disturbing fact: Demons learn words from hearing humans use them. So the words that child demon in the flashback spoke,"Mom" and "It hurts", were words it learned by hearing a human speak. More specifically, from the daughter of those 2 people it ate...... It learned those words as it was eating the child and she was crying for help to her mom.......

Hi Angelo, I'm always having fun. thank you. Well, this time I commented about Zoltraak. You're always so thoughtful and understanding, but I think you may have missed it during Kvar's time. Zoltraak, which Kvar killed humans 80 years ago, has been thoroughly researched by humans, led by Freelen, after Kvar was sealed away. As a result, Zoltraak, which was once feared as a magic that would kill humanity, became such a common concept that it was called ``normal attack magic,'' and modern magicians have come to treat it as the ``most common attack magic.'' And Frieren further improved Zoltraak and created ``magic that kills demons''. And with the improved version of Zoltraak, he killed the most demons in history. Don't you think this world setting is very nice? It's a serious fantasy. Also, you didn't comment on the video, but how many years ago did Aura start moving? Why did it start moving? It might be interesting to consider that.

I would recommend to translate the German character names into English for yourself. They often give away the personality of the characters. Most are really well choosen. For example Lügner = Liar

These episodes are important for setting down the nature of demons in the Frieren universe (there are another set that we don't get to in the anime that take this further). Sadly some don't get it and talk nonsense like that Frieren is "racist" because demons are some kind of stand in for certain minorities. Uh, no. Oh, and you'll also learn in these episodes what happened to the elves. We will see some more. Not saying more then that.
