I actually bought a frilled dragon as my first pet lizard and she has been amazing. I bought her from a great pet shop when she was 4 months old, and Ive had her for about a year now. Although she was expensive, and she was very fearful of me at first she has become a great pet to handle and take care of over all. If you have the money I would 100% recommended this animal. BTW I keep her in a 70 gallon aquarium for anyone wondering.

Clint's Reptiles I’ve got a sort of web leading up to my final reptile. Right now I’ve got my first lizard, a bearded dragon. I’m thinking I want a frilled dragon next, but I’m unsure if that’s too big of a jump in difficulty from a beardie. After the frilled dragon, a red eyed crocodile skink or a sand fish. I’m hoping by the time I’ve handled those enough I’ll be prepared for an Argentine Tegu! That’s my final lizard of my list, and the one I want the most.

I have had a couple of these lizards about 10 years ago. Just like in the video, they can be flighty and defensive. Then at the other extreme, they can be absolutely adorable. Having two of them was a challenge since the bigger one, which I think was a male, dominated at feeding time over the slightly smaller one which was a suspect female. Otherwise they got along fine and even cuddled together on a branch that I had in the cage. Like I said, they can be adorable. Even when I took one to the vet for malnourishment, she said that the smaller one was so cute. I initially had plans for them as breeders, but looking back, they were displayed as a group so I think they were siblings. So I would like to stay away from inbreeding. I only had them a little over a year. It was very tragic how they died, but I do intend on giving my next ones better chances. Like a good number of lizards they are susceptible to metabolic bone disease, so the UVA and UVB lights are a must. I felt mine Cuban lobster roaches, mealworms and crickets if I had any around. Dousing the lizards food with calcium powder at feeding time is a good practice indeed. They need all the calcium they can get. As for water, I used to use a syringe, but since there have been products available for species which only drink flowing water such as the big and little dripper and the Exoterra dripper plant, which comes in a few sizes, but is on the expensive side @ $50. As babies, from what I have experienced, can be fun and comical as when I had them both scampering around on the back of my neck during handling. They probably shouldn’t have been my first lizards, but I really did enjoy having them.

Im watching this video again because it reminds me of the amazing times i had with my friend Franky. My CB Australian frilled dragon that I owned about 10 years ago cost me thousands of dollars in the first two years. He had his own 4x6x2 custom built terrarium. Ceramic heat emitter for basking, so much food that I ended up breeding silkworms to keep him fed. And still got large crickets to feed as well. And he absolutely hated my guts. I would have to wear leather welding gloves when I would take him out for tank cleaning or a soak in the tub. He bit me and the gloves, and figured out he could do more damage if he went around the gloves. Still have scars from him too. But I loved that lizard and miss him like crazy....

I have a frilly and she’s great. Only frills when she sees her food. Her enclosure was custom built to my specifications and is the size of a tegu enclosure, only it’s vertical. If you want a cool lizard that’s a little bit advanced but don’t have the floor space, frillys are awesome. If you have the floor space, get a tegu. That’s next on my list.

We had an australian frilled dragon named drake when I was younger. He was a rescue from my half brother who had recently been arrested. He was super docile especially with my dad, and would love to climb on us and sit on our shoulder. He would just sit and watch as we would stand by our back sliding door for him, or just walk around the house lol. He hated being held though and was notorious for shitting on everything, thankfully it was always a pretty easy clean up.

Can you handle a dromaeosaur (raptor-type dinosaur) though? I'd personally recommend _Hesperonychus_ for its smaller size and the fact that it requires less space than a V-raptor, though it still needs a lot of space to run around. Small mammals are recommended as food. They also have a tamer demeanor though they are still nippy. I'd say around a solid B or B+ in overall score.

I love that this guy's so jumpy. Hate that this probably means it is stressed although you are pretty gentle with it.

Yeah, he isn't used to handling much. He was pretty calm all things considered.

I almost missed this episode because I was watching Crikey its the Irwins and crying from the childhood memories. But it's nevertheless lovely to see another video of some awesome reptiles.

Wonderful video Clint. You need to do tortoises! I have a California Desert Tortoise and I could not believe how much personality he has. I'd love to see you rate other species.

my girlfriend is really wanting to keep frilled dragons, but she wants to make it so he/she has a very active vivarum with plants too, what do you recommend as reptile safe live plants and do you also have any suggestions for DIY vivariums? i was thinking about re-purposing furniture such as a china cabinet, entertainment stand, etc... links are amazing too! also youre so enthusiastic :D

Hey Clint, there's a ton of snakes that I would love an informative video about. I see these exotic snakes at expos that just don't have a lot of info online. I'm thinking Asian Vine Snakes, Elephant Trunk Snakes, Madagascar Hognose, etc. I see people buying them at every expo but there's almost no info available!

TBF, they didn't think it would be possible to PROVE that Dilo's didn't have frills, but like a lot of popular movies, it drew a lot of focus on it until Paleontologists were able to say it was unlikely.

They are worth about 5 times as much and were pretty rare just 20 years ago. I doubt they bought anything "on accident". You don't get a Ferrari accidentally when someone sells you a Honda Civic.

I had a frilly for a while. We indeed had to get a custom cage and everything; the guy certainly was a climber. Always went to the highest spot he could. He was also a big grump; never took kindly to people getting within a foot of him. X) Unfortunately he passed away after he gained some sort of internal infection. We have no idea how it happened; he just suddenly stopped eating and using the bathroom. When the vet took a look, the infection was so bad he had to be put down.
