I played the trombone for 7 years before I got this crazy idea to learn the horn. : ) I still play them both regularly. I've had people tell me, "well your trombone playing is going to suffer and you wont excel on the horn as well if you continue playing them both." Whatever. I play them both in the same concert many times and wouldn't have it any other way. I love your videos by the way.

Thank you for the awesome video's! Horn playing can be fun, your videos are proof of that. The public misconception that horn players only play old stale orchestral music has always irked me. Videos like yours may help prove them wrong.

I switched from playing trumpet for 6 years. It was not difficult at all to transition from playing with the trumpet fingerings to the horn fingerings. Those were the quickest things I learned, the hardest thing for me was getting the pitches. I've been playing a year and four months and I've been told I've progressed tremendously. Don't be afraid to switch from trumpet to horn, it may just keep you from giving up when you start horn.

Follow this rule and you can play any major scale. A major scale is made up of 2 tetrachords (whole step, whole step, half step) joined together by a whole step. So thus, any major scale goes up a whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole stop, half step. Now think ofa piano keyboard and that there are two pairs of adjacent white keys no black keys in between, B to C and E to F. Since these are half steps, sharps and flats occur. For example B-C half step B-C# whole step.

You should record Kerry Turner's Quartet No. 3! It is a great piece! Also, for solo work, how about Bagatelle by Hermann Neuling? It is almost impossible to find a recording of that piece... This sounds great!

You start them on trumpet? I thought that was bad since they learn to much like....well, to tell you the truth I always thought that was frowned upon, but I really can't come up with any actual for it to be, haha. Trumpet's C is a French horn's F, I think, so I thought that would make it harder to learn. When I was in jazz band on tpt right after wind ensemble ended, I was so good since horn is so much more difficult. You're great, what horn do you have?? It looks a lot like my Yamaha YHR-668N

Nope. I have students do it all the time. I always start my horn students on trumpet. It's easier to play trumpet than horn and they get a faster start.

@ohsteacher I suspected you started on trumpet. A horn player that starts on trumpet will never sound quite right. I do NOT recommend that personally.

Oh it's not difficult to transition, I was just saying that playing trumpet makes horn so much easier lol...you're a better horn player if you have played trumpet, because horn is more difficult
