Using A Stiff Arm To Recover From Speed Passes

Sometimes rather than using pressure to smash your leg together, your opponent managed to hit a clean speed pass that either quickly rotated your body out of the way or allowed them to quickly maneuver themselves around your legs.
In this situation, the technique may differ, but the concepts remain the same: create a stiff arm that allows you to get up to your bottom elbow to hip escape away and create space.
Watch the video above to learn how to do exactly that. Go to jiujitsux.com for more

If I had money and the means to travel I would go a couple of times a year to train in this gym. By the way, the triangle defense I learn from Cornelius works like a charm😺🌞

Every time. Works way better than anything else I have learned and I usually end up in a good position.

Getting to your elbow has become so effective in jiu-jitsu.

It has always been effective. Those of us that came up through the Jiujitsu system are institutionalized into a narrow set of ideas and it causes us to ignore much more elegant solutions. The shrimp has a place but it is not actually what we all think.

Would this stiff arm defense work the same way in nogi? Or you would prefer leg pumeling instead. In nogi, I mean

Without grips in nogi, I like to cross frame in the neck/collarbone, on the head, or armpit. Remember they don’t have grips either. Key is your bottom elbow getting out and turning into them, then escaping your hips.

In very many IBJJF high level elite gi grapplers, I often view grapplers use the stiff arm as a safe effective defense. It seems difficult, from the grimace they express in their faces, but it works very well.

Two hands on one arm, until you recomposition your guard. This will help you stop probably 80-90 of all passes.

This resembles a lot of the turkish get up, if you practice with weights and do it frequently, this move will become so natural it will be hard for them to pass your guard if you use the stiff arm

You assume they meant people; I think they meant ‘shit on the walls’ empty. Looks like an empty, featureless warehouse. Maybe that’s the plan though.
