Halo 3 is kinda overrated ngl. I know I’m gonna start WWIII by saying this, but let me cook. I tried playing it on MCC (multiplayer, prefer 1v1 splitscreen) and I could only get kills in swat or by dual wielding magnums. I had a pit match that was fun, but the weapons just feel *weird* to me. It feels like when I use them, they shoot rubber, but when they use them they insta-kill me.

@@lpharmer3496 Mind you that I was about 20-21 when I played Reach for the first time. I think that back then on the 360, the spacefighter section on at least Heroic and Legendary was doable as long as you took cover and let your shields recharge. I tried it again on MCC on PC a year ago on Legendary and had to hide behind the space station the whole time, only occasionally picking off those Seraphs and Banshees that came too close to me. It's very telling that even with the one thing 343 got mostly right (e.g., bringing MCC over to PC), they still managed to mess things up by tying enemy AI to the framerate and/or tick rate. It just means that Legendary is even harder than it was originally.

I think my biggest pet peeve with Cortana is that it was (at least hypothetically) originally going to be the flood ship from Floodgate, so the level design was never really intended to be or resemble high charity, which sucks because I feel like if they went for that from the beginning, it would have been able to resemble 2's high charity a lot more.

I believe what happened was that the majority of the ship from the end of Floodgate was removed and turned into most of Cortana. I don’t know why they couldn’t leave it in and make High Charity into a level…

I said this in the comments of the halo reach campign video but ill say it again: long night of solace is broken on MCC on a technical level. The doubled framerate broke the AI of the enemy ships and they are WAY, WAY more agressive then they are meant to be, and it takes legendary, which you play on, from challneging to just strait out not fun,, even for me as someone who loves the level and is really good with the saber.

Yeah like the way it flows and the general sandbox with the armor abilities makes it my favourite, but some of the levels just lack punch or have a section that brings them down eg Long Night of Solace has the great section on the beach and on the Covenant ship, but the Sabre section isn't great and is a pain on higher difficulties

Reachs level design means nothing without the lore and the emotion. If we're grading levels based solely on the design of combat encounters reach doesnt do so well. Its in combination with how those levels make us feel as humanity and noble team is cut down and pushed back and how we know reach is destined to fall that makes reach's campaign so memorable

I think something I like about your style of videos is you have ambitious ideas like "let me rank every single Halo level" and then your approach is basically to speed run through everything, spending like 10 seconds per level. I think you underrate some of the Halo 3 missions, especially Crow's Nest there is backtracking but I love the way how they change the tone and environment every time you return to a spot. Also I love The Storm so many different ways to approach that Scarab section, and the push up the AA gun is a lot of fun. Great video though

Think about it, the first mission is just slow, the 4th mission is really long, the sabre section was also really long and disappointing on replays due to how slow the start is waiting for enemies and poor flying controls. The hold outs during the last 2 missions also out stay their welcome and the last level is just a tedious slog. Theres great set pieces to reach but the flow between combat and then the tedious amount of combat is just a lot sometimes. Also screw the drop ships changing to concussion rounds that knock you aroundz thats just ass

I think the problem is that a lot of the levels feel the same. There isn’t much location variation which is the biggest issue. It all looks the same. If there was weather effects or desert like areas or winter areas then it would be a crap ton better. I also would have liked a return to the flood after seeing them return in Halo Wars 2 but that’s just me

Cortana is actually one of my favorite halo levels of all time. Dual Wield Plasma Rifles absolutely dominate flood. They're useful against every enemy type. Great for infection forms, combat forms, tank forms, and they've got the range to deal with needler forms. Short controlled bursts and there is alot of plasma rifles on that level.

Halo 3 ODST is extremely underrated. All the missions in it are at least good. Even Coastal highway. Yeah on legendary it’s a pain in the ass but for a normal playthrough it is enjoyable and I like going from vehicle to vehicle. Using the scorpion is extremely satisfying too. Mombasa streets is one of the best parts of the game. Even though it didn’t get a ranking I think as a whole I would give it a high A tier. I love the open aspect and the supply caches and the unique encounters after each mission. And to top it off in my opinion the Soundtrack is the best in the whole franchise

I agree It's an amazing level, but the beginning on Legendary is the worst mission opening ever. I've died multiple times before I could even move. That alone makes it "A" tier for me. Or, better yet, "A" tier opener, "S" tier rest of level haha.

Great video. I agree with almost all of it. IMO Delta halo, regret, and great journey should be scored higher. The offer some of best fighting on the ring and fighting alongside hunters on the last mission is just wild. Also, the opening to long night of solace sucked, but once you board the covenant ship it's awesome. Entering the ship in Zero-G and fighting Zealots on the bridge is just epic, and the send-off with George was just really big in the feels. Lastly The Ark on Halo 3 is wild with how massive the maps feel (with large sightlines, not just length), and there's an awesome Brute battle at the end.

I agreed with most except for Keyes and Quarantine Zone. Keyes was so cool with the flood vs covenant encounters plus the atmosphere. Spec op elites were introduced. It did Two Betrayals better by altering truth and rec to a whole new pathway outside (low B, high C). You gave floodgate an A for the same reason I would rate Keyes higher. Quarantine Zone is a high B at least simply due to the fact that you fight 3 factions. The sentinels with the enforcer, the flood driving unsc vehicles, and the covenant... all fighting each other. It was amazing, in my opinion. When I was shot by a unsc tank for the first time playing through the mission, I was so confused, but it honestly switches up the gameplay to seem like you are fighting the unsc in a way. I like it so much and think the mission is underrated by the community.

Long Night of Solace used to be my favorite Reach level and one of my favorite levels out of all the games until it was broken by the MCC port. The sabre section is basically unplayable now on heroic or higher. Now I think Pillar of Autumn is my favorite Reach level. If I had to pick what the best level in the series is, it would have to be The Covenant from Halo 3.

Honestly I disagree with the MCC making Long Night of Solace worse. It made the Sabre section considerably harder but if you ask me I actually appreciate that because it always felt way too easy in the OG. The first time I did Reach Solo Legendary I was still not that great at the game and yet I did that section with only 1 death due to crashing into the space station. I like that it's actually challenging now.

Sounds like you just don’t like vehicle sections cause you’re judging them based on your own solo legendary runs. Most people will be on either heroic or normal and co op was really THE way to play halo back in the day.

Cortana could have easily been an S-tier level. Can you imagine if High Charity was the same High Charity from Halo 2? You'd see the vastness of it, but now everywhere you look is filled with the flood. Remember the big open area where the keyship was. Imagine looking back at that vastness, and where the keyship was is now a keyship sized flood mass. It would shown just how bad of a situation it was.

I know this was based on gameplay but I think Halo (halo 3) should be bumped up to A just for all the emotions you feel while playing it, especially for the first time.
