"You will never outrun 150k shutter actuations" is a crazy bold statement. I sold my 5D II with 280k shutter and my 6D is 100k already. 150k actually isn't that much - for working photographer it is just for 2-3 years, for those who shoot weddings even less...

***** I'm no photographer, just do amateur astro imaging and when I heard the 150K estimate even I thought professionals could hit that mark and it wouldn't take that long to do so. I can only imagine he meant it for the consumer hobbyist.

***** I share my 5dmk3, 6d, 7d with 2 other photographer, we shoot on alternative days (1,4 I shoot and 2,3,5 the other 2 so when we aren't shooting we are editing) for wedding, sports, events and on average shoot 2000+ shots each person (about 6000 shots a week), the 150000 actuations only last us 6 months at most

Fair comment, but I’d argue the point is valid. Hobbyists aren’t ever going to have to worry about shutter count because they won’t reach it. Professionals who make a living off their Photography won’t give a crap either because it won’t be their only camera anyway. If it is, it’ll have paid for itself 20x over anyway - by which point they’d probably getting something else too....

Hey, really high production value on this one and also awesome photos. One thing, though: I guess this trip was sponsored by canon? Just judging by the amount of vehicles / camp / and the fact that you are holding cam #21 in your hands. You should really add such informations into the video description and / or say it in the beginning of the video. If i'm wrong ignore this. I also dislike that canon removed the headphone jack on those two... just an unessecary move imo, even if they are not meant for video because they are missing 60fps or 4k anyways.

Antonio Alcala He needs to do full disclosure, then i'm ok with it. But i can't rely on information from him when i don't know if canon, rode or any other company with products he is testing is giving him money. When i know: Oh this video is payed for by canon, then it gets a lot easier for me to abstract.

@RickMentore
@RickMentore 9 жыл бұрын
I like to see a comparison with the new Canon 5DS and the latest Hasselblad. I was wounder if this camera with its high pixels has rendered medium format unnecessary. To see if Medium Format are really 20/30 thousand dollars better?
@TalesOfWar
@TalesOfWar 9 жыл бұрын
Rick Mentore No. It hasn't. Medium format is still medium format. There's no way a 35mm sensor can produce the same kind of image of an equivalent medium format sensor. Hell, just look at the difference in the kind of shots you get even with high quality film. There's just something the larger format does to the image that can't be emulated with a smaller frame. Also your comment assumes medium format systems are going to remain at their current state. They won't, they'll also continue to improve.
@randomgeocacher
@randomgeocacher 9 жыл бұрын
Not really. The ability to get shallow depth of field at wider shots is one of the thing a full frame sensor cannot emulate (there are guides on KZbin how to emulate it with compositing many full frame images of the same person... Crazy work). So for anyone considering wide open medium format his style it is a bit moot, there aren't lenses which give the same look. Same argument as full frame vs crop basically. But in terms of what Jared showed us today, using it as a normal camera, shooting landscapes, of course you'd go with full frame (or crop!) over a big expensive medium format.

What a great review and again I think it's pretty obvious Jared's ability to say pros and cons whether if it's a Canon or a Nikon or Sony with a great professionalism and not only to bash Canon and exalt Nikon as many believe! But I think the real problem is that people don't wanna hear his/her camera has flaws! So until we all together agree that no camera is perfect a Canon reviewer will always be regarded as a Canon fanboy who bashes Nikon and vice versa if he's a Nikon user! But the best thing to do would be trying to see the pro photographer behind the brand he's shooting with and trying to see he's giving a honest opinion from his point of view! Great job Jared as always!

I am an aviation photographer who sometimes takes landscapes as well. I typically take photos of fast moving objects "planes" sometimes somewhat far away. Do you think this camera would be good for that? I currently have a T6 which was a great intro camera but I feel like its time to upgrade. The 50MPs is what got me with this camera. Whenever I edited photos that I took with my T6, there was plenty of visual noise in the photo; that is something I am definitely wanting to get rid of. I heard the 5DS R has a good quick AF too so thats another reason why I am considering it. I appreciate any help in advance!

Hi +Jared Polin Refering to the -why- of the crop modes/aspect ratio, the existence of those modes are closely related to the landscape photography style where photographers like me often prefer something closer to a 4/3 ratio than 3/2.

Bought this in 2015. Not that many issues with Moire, can count that on one hand. I often use it at night at well, mostly at night in fact. Got great results, not pushing the iso too far. Not an issue at all. But time changes and I will switch camera this year. I see the R5 is coming, but I also believe Canon has something more up their Sleeve. R5 might be sufficient though, with all the great RF-lenses out there.

Jared Hogie Are you saying you see one deep canyon you've seen them all? I respectfully disagreed, but to give the GC some justice shooting it from a few different locations will show it's different looks. One of the things I liked about Jered's shooting is bringing in the amazing clouds into the subject, in some ways they were as interesting to me as the canyon itself. But that just shows hes a professional and I'm not! I was really impressed with the camera's performance, the clarity and color rendition were mind blowing from my perspective. Even the tiny background mountains were tack sharp, I wish I could magnify the images and go exploring. A panoramic shot would have been cool as well.

Really great review, thank you for sharing your thoughts and putting this out there. However I am a little confused when you said dynamic range isnt part using the camera in the real world... to me dynamic range of a single raw exposure seems more important now then ever, especially with these high pixel image sensors. Would love to see some shots where you really pushed the limits of the sensors dynamic range, how much can you pull from the shadows before noise starts to get out of control 2 or 3 stops? Anyway great work and keep it up! Oh and looks like it was an aaaaamazing trip!

You mentioned this camera is UHS 1 compatible, but I assume that means it’s still able to utilize UHS 2 & 3 cards now correct? I know this camera is considered ancient now but I’m looking for a B camera mostly for events and high fashion studio stills to compliment my EOS R I use for studio and video and I’m very interested in this MP count for the price now!

The production quality is much improved in this review compared to the last camera review (the last review wasn't bad either).

Jared, love your stuff dude. As a newbie I have a question. I currently have a Canon 80D DSLR, using a canon 16-35, Tamron 24-70 and Tamron 70-200. My question is if I switch to the canon 5dslr I dont have to get new lenses. My current lenses will work on the new camera? Thanks sie keep up the amazing work

Yosvaldy Fernandez Not worth it man. One is enough. I just bought the 5ds but I returned it and got the 5dsr. Unless you’ll shoot clothes patterns get the 5dsr for sharper photos.

This does not seen like a review to me. It's more like a sale pitch.
