In this video we took a short day trip from Osaka to Nara, then to Kyoto by train. We saw the deer at Nara Deer Park, visited Todai-ji Temple, Hanamikoji Street and the Yasaka Shrine.

Aloha Misty and Aiden; Thank you for taking us along while you tour the sights and enjoyed the great food. It was nice seeing the friendly deer,the Shinto temple and the Buddhist temple. Your dining experiences were awesome, and at such reasonable prices. Aiden’s Japanese-take on the “Loco Moco” got the me, and the sushi restaurant was like a Japanese-version of dim sum, but with really fresh, and delicious, food. Looking forward to the next segment of the Osaka trip. Best wishes and much 🧧, fellow 🐯! 🤙

Awesome to see you and Aiden in Japan! My husband and I travel there extensively and Nara and Kyoto brings back great memories. The deer and so much fun and so cute! I love Hamanikoji street in Gion! We haven't gone there in awhile and probably don't plan too, i've seen first hand how the Geisha and Maiko get harrassed and I just want to remember how it was before it got so crowded with tourist. Every area in Japan has their own food specialties, the food there is so good! Mahalo for taking us along, we just got back ourselves so catching up on You Tube. Going to watch your next Osaka video.

Oh yummy mochi looks like matcha and adzuki- my fave! Really cute wrapped sushi. The train station would seem confusing. I would love to see Kyoto one day for its history, culture, and architecture. Amazing day! Ramen looks so ono ono. Interesting tax free QR card explanation. Thank you for valuable info.

I never thought of that. Might of been matcha! But I didn't taste it. Just tasted like soft plain rice. So fresh and soft. I wanted to take some home but was worried it would be moldy by then since it's made so organically.

Awesome video of y'alls trip. I love it. Really can't beat the prices and quality of food in Japan. At the conveyor belt sushi, you usually just pour the shoyu right on the sushi instead of in a plate/bowl.

My wife and I were in Osaka, Kyoto and Nara back in 2018. I think those deer are hungry 24/7.😂 The Gion district in Kyoto is famous for its geisha. Glad that you and Aiden were able to walk through there, especially the older cobblestone section. Kyoto is famous for its inari sushi. Shinto shrines are guarded by stone figures of foxes. They were highly regarded for protecting rice storehouses from rodents. There’s a mountain in Arashiyama, Kyoto where you can hike up to see monkeys. It’s a morning train ride from the city. There’s a nice little onsen (hot spring) place at the foot of the mountain. Oh man, missing Japan more than ever.
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
The onsen sounds great but I can't go to those due to my tattoos. And I wouldn't feel comfortable naked with strangers. Too bad they are banning tourists from the whole Gion area. Glad we got to make it before April.

Boy, you pack a lot in one day. I really admire your sense of adventure. My dad and I found the trains and subways stressful and difficult to navigate...and he was born there. 😂
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Yes gotta do as much as we can if we flew that far. 🤣 The subway system is very confusing on some parts such as the payment and that certain weird part about paying extra to get out. Makes no sense since we paid extra for the nicer train. Really strange system. Usually in Korea, NYC, Boston and Portugal it is one price as long as you stay in the subway. You can get off another stop to transfer for free to another line. When you exit that's when you have to pay again.

@Worcester_Girl Awesome! I am half Korean. My mom is from Seoul. My dad met her there when he was stationed in Korea for the Army. I'm not Japanese but love the food. The subway/train system is really strange to me. I can navigate the T and NYC and even the Korean subways just fine. I've been to Korea twice. I am trying to go to Jeju Island this year. If not, maybe next year. 😊

Loved this! So at conveyer belt sushi place, did you get anything off the belt or did you just order what you wanted from the tablet? Loved the deer…
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
No we ordered off the tablet. Same as Genki. When you order it, it comes on the belt above it to your table. You really don't interact with any staff at all. But there's some of them there if you need help.

Greetings from CA Misty & Aiden. Here's how BIG Kura Sushi is: Kura Sushi is a popular Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain known for its affordable sushi dishes. Founded in 1995, Kura Sushi today has over 450 locations in Japan along with 22 in Taiwan and 47 in the United States. My advice: If you've been to Kura-Sushi in Japan... Don't go to the ones in the U.S. 😉😉 You'll pay a lot more for lesser quality dishes. DK

Yes I don't think sushi will be thr same unless I go to a sushi bar. The quality was great for conveyor belt sushi. 🤙

Aloha Misty. I've always wanted to go to the deer park and also Kyoto - I'm sorry to hear tourists will not be allowed in that area because they were harrassing the Geisha's, it's unfortunate that those people ruined it for the rest of us who wanted to one day walk in that area. I've heard when it's cold/snowy there's an area where you can visit the snow monkeys that's on my list as well. Mahalo for showing your travel videos!!!
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Yes the tourists really ruined it for all the polite ones. There is just tons of them around and they are quite rude...otherwise a nice place to visit. Osaka was kind of rough and not as polite as you think Japanese people are. I heard Tokyo is very pleasant and nice in terms of people's attitudes. I will go that way next time.

Interesting that you said you chose Osaka for the food - I would have guessed the amusement park for your son. Honestly, you can't go too wrong with the food anywhere in Japan as long as you don't have dietary restrictions. Though if I were going to travel somewhere specifically for food in Japan (which I wouldn't for various reasons) I would probably pick Hokkaido. Too bad the trains were confusing. I am a big Japanese train fan. Did you get to take the Hello Kitty train (goes between Kyoto and Kansai airport)?
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 3 ай бұрын
Yeah picked it for the foodie scene, street food and the closeness of Universal vs how far away Disneyland is from Tokyo. The train ride to Universal was only 20 mins from Osaka. My first pick was Hokkaido and Sapporo but I figured there's more kid stuff in Osaka.

My dad is from Kyoto and that side of the fam is there, was wonderful to see the footage as it's been a while since i've visited 👍. I just read up on the tourist ban in the Gion district because of disrespectful tourist. Wth, those bad apples need to realize the places they visit are not interactive amusement parks 🤦‍♀️. Including here where they touch wildlife or trespass kapu/illegal, banned areas so they can take that idiotic selfie 👎. Was cute to see your son help you wash your hands at the shrine and i'm guessing be your cameraman at times, such a great experience 😊.
