Well, this one did not turn out anything like what I had in mind. It was bug damaged more than I knew. Still, it did turn out to have some outstanding grain and color so all is not lost. Finished in shellac.

Thank You Phil, Thank you Nate, Mr. Nate's Wood Shop.....Phil it sure is fun watching you explore some new wood. Each piece offers new & unknown adventures, never knowing what is going to happen. I will never tire of watching. I love the verbal walkthrough. Definitely NOT a disappointment for me Phil. It is really nice when the bark can be saved but just watching you turn, decide, change, compromise, restart, new game plan ...all that is what makes your show so enjoyable to watch. I love that grain and in the future I would like to see Nate's other half turned to give this bowl its complimentary other side? Your finishing is superb! With a perfect, experienced nub removal .Very much enjoy your discussion during and at the end. Until next time Phil........TM

Hello Phil, greetings from England We’ve all been there 😊 I’m still denied my workshop thanks to my broken leg but as I helped my wife store a delivery of fire wood I looked at every piece and thought ‘would Phil do with it?’ Sadly only two passed the test but I can’t wait to get my mask and face shield on. Good evening, Phil. Thumbs up, my friend. Dogs normally don't loose their bark but this time Phil lost his bark. In this case there was a plan 'B.' Occasionally a plan C and even a plan D, E and F may be needed. However, once the project becomes as small as a thimble, it ends up a thimble. I like the wood, the finish and the overall project. Nicely done.

There are house flies, horse flies, deer flies and an occasional bowl fly. My latest bowl fly resulted from an interesting walnut log that started out to be a fairly large live edge bowl and ended up a very small coin bowl. Haha, thanks, Steve! I considered a natural edge for a few seconds but the bugs had just taken the wood down too far. I don't think it would have looked good. It never would have sanded very well and it would have just soaked up the finish. But, someone suggested I could have burned the edge for contrast. I wish I would have thought of that! 😊

You always say take what the wood gives you. I could feel your pain when the bark came off but you still turned a beautiful piece.

Some days the wood agrees with you. Then there are days when it rebels. This was just one of those days. It wanted to become a beautiful, if small, dish, and by golly, that's what you made. Very nice rim, by the way. 😉 Beautiful dish, love the grain and doily pattern! 😁

I wish having a camera recording what I do wasn't such a distraction! I just simply can't be in front of a camera. I've blown 3 pieces trying and don't figure to try again.

It doesn't have the bark but it has enough imperfections to make it interesting and full of fantastic grain to make it beautiful with a finish so perfect, it's the icing on this piece. Plus, you have another half a log to try again for a live edge bowl with! I count that a win, but just my opinion. 😉💖

Hi Phil! Loved the doily reference! Yes too bad about the bark. ☹️ But I immediately thought how it would look filled with M&M's. ,🤔 Ok truth be told....I picture all your bowls with M&M's. Looking forward as always to your next live edge adventure! 👍👍

Hi Phil! Even though this “bowl” didn’t turn out the way you wanted, it’s still quite pretty. I like it. It kind of makes me think of Jupiter. 😉 Life has been chaotic lately, so I’ve missed a few videos. “Sorry about that, chief.” As you know, I think of you often and continue to send healthy, happy hugs your way. I hope all is well at your “Shady Acres” and beyond. Keep smiling, and I’ll see you next video, hopefully. Hugs, Roma 🌲💚🌳🦅
