When I moved o Greece back in 1991 I had no expectations. I just wanted to experience life there knowing I had the option of leaving again if things didn't turn out.In fact I knew I would probably be going back a few steps. But everything worked out. Just remember life is different there but most improved since 1991 when it comes to dealing with the public service.

Don’t listen to anyone. My family didn't want me to start a business or move abroad. If I listened to them, my life would be boring and uneventful like theirs. I wake up every morning and go swimming in the sea and play with my doggo.

Hi great to follow your dream. I moved from UK to Crete alone with my cat 12 years ago! Love living in Paradise. Wonderful Greek neighbourhood & I see more of my UK friends here than living in the UK...they love it to. Some now have their own holiday homes to enjoy the life 🌞🏖😎 Crete is such an Amazing, Beautiful Island.

Love this video, I though I was the only one who does this. We go to Κέρκυρα,Corfu, every year and this is what I do. I go to the same cafe everyday, I stop at the same bakery everyday, buy bits from the same 2 or 3 shops whenever we need them. I pretend that I live there, imagine this is what I would do everyday, these are the people I would interact with everyday. I practice my very limited Greek with simple questions that, fingers crossed,I hope they have understood and I hopefully understand the reply. A few days in the locals are asking me questions , where are u staying, 1st time in Corfu, etc. Then it’s Kalimera Matty, ti kanis, when ever I pop in. Some people remember talking to me from previous years, other places welcome me back after being away so long. I feel like I belong there. Lots of people love going abroad, they love the sunshine the views the food the people, but it’s just a holiday, they are sad when it’s over but happy they are back home. I feel a loss when I leave and a desire to return, I think part of me stays every time I go there.

It’s true, Nafplion is a beautiful city! The architecture and culture is like that of a Greek island yet you have the mainland proximity. The perfect situation! I also want to be like the pappous and yiayias. We visit our Greek family in a small town on the east coast of mainland Greece. I love to get up early before everyone else and go for my daily walk and swim before it gets too hot. I have English fair skin so I fry in the sun if I wait and go with everyone else at 12 noon. Plus I enjoy the quiet of the early morning. The only thing is I need someone to show me how to open all the blasted locks to get out of the house and the courtyard gate! 😂

Nauplio is a fantastic place to live!

Nafplio is a win win situation because you are on a peninsular, which is a semi-island a bit larger than Crete ( the megalonisos) but you have conveniences you do not get on the islands. Living on an island ( try Spetses and Ydra for a few days and you will see what I mean) are more expensive , because the produce comes from the mainland, they have water and desalination issues and the list goes on. Nafplio is not that far from Athens, the airport, main skiing resorts in Menalo, archaeological sites like Epidavros theatre, beaches etc etc. Win win

This was my experience when i first came to Rhodes to visit my boyfriend. We've been together for nearly 6 years now, and I've since then visited greece 3 times, every time ending in Rhodes. (where he was studying) I fell in love with the island and all the history within it. I am so happy to know that this coming year, I'll be making the move to be with my boyfriend in Greece and potentially to Rhodes! 💛

You are such an inspiration, and it is so fascinating to listen to your personal journey as that makes me think about my own background as growing up In Sweden and I was brought up by parents from Finland. In 2010, I immigrated to the United States. All these experiences have accumulated into the fact that I am conducting real research on a doctorate level about expatriates and their motivation to live and work in a foreign country. Italy and the Mediterranean culture have always been a dream for me as a future chapter in my life. Though I have started to look into Greece as a possible destination as well, this is why I ended up at your Vlog. I look forward to your next video.

I have been swimming here every day I can during the last 25 years. The last 15 years also in the winter, even if that is not usual for yiayiades and pappoudes, who usually put their hats on and go swimming in the Greek summer, which they count to be from the 1. June till the 31. August. The last decade there has been a bit flexibility with that. I live on a southern coast with an open sea in front, so only a southern wind and uncomfortably big waves can stop me. The age to be a pappous I have by now. And the hat I have also, to protect my scalp from the sun. Even if I am not bald. Or I wish to think so.

Καλημέρα Daniel χαίρομαι πολυ που αγάπησες τοσο την Ελλάδα... Εγω μενω στην Κύπρο ενω είμαστε και εγω και ο άντρας μου Έλληνες . Εκείνος γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στην Ελλάδα ..εγω πάλι γεννήθηκα στην Ελλάδα αλλά μεγάλωσα στην Γερμανία και γυρίσαμε πίσω στα χρόνια του Γυμνασίου για εμένα. Μετα πηγα για σπουδές στηνν Αθήνα..και το Ναύπλιο ήταν αγαπημένο πάντα.για γρήγορες διακοπές (3-4) ημέρες .. Ζω στην Λεμεσό.ειναι και εδώ υπέροχα ομως μου λείπει η αδερφή μου η μαμά μου..

Thank you for your honesty, Daniel, in sharing that you had to overcome obstacles to manifest this dream. Can you make a video to talk about how you found a place to live (finally) in Nafplio, please? I looked for an apartment briefly, but found that realtors do not respond or else they show you whatever crummy places they want to unload. :-( My situation changed, so I’m not actively looking now, but I’m thinking about it for next year. Thanks in advance for any advice! Keep making your inspiring videos!
