There’s a tragic mystery that haunts Mitchells Plain in the Western Cape; who killed 21 young boys between 1986 and 1994? They’re cases that remain unsolved, a still-festering wound for many of the area’s residents who lived through the anxiety and fear of that time. With the recent release of a convicted murderer dubbed the Station Strangler, still suspected of having been behind the murders but found guilty of just one, these children are once again front of mind. And as Norman Simons settles back into society as a paroled prisoner some residents of Parow, where he now lives, are re-living their worst fears.

Can we PLEASE simplify the law system: • Life sentence is LIFE sentence; • 30years is 30 years etc. These double-edged sentences has no meaning. Can somebody please rewrite the books and be more definitive and precise ???

Best thing for the community to do is that since the government has zero concern for the safety of the community where he was released is then for the community to band together for the safety of their kids. All households within 5 blocks of each other need to collectively come together under a common mindset of safety, have elected community members for each 5 block section to then go to each household and simply ask for 6-12 months rates and taxes bills. That is the easiest way to find out where he is and what he looks like.

Carte Blanche have not done the facts of this case justice. Simons cannot be tied to the other 21 boys. There is no evidence. The DNA found on other boys and on Elroy does not match Simons. Simons was convicted on the basis of an eyewitness saying it was him yet this eyewitness said the man had an afro which Simons did not. Simons also had an alibi. He was seen at a library in Clairmont about an hour before Elroy was kidnapped. Furthermore, there were about another 4 to 5 boys killed in a similar way after Simons was detained. The chances are very high that the real strangler was never actually caught. Simons confessed but withdrew his confession. When he took police to sites where he claimed he left bodies, there was nothing found.
