(Mom was also friend of Ed Feulner-and I’m not at all happy about where his creature has landed. She is no longer with us, but even before she passed, she rejected Heritage Foundation when they hired Ginni Thomas. Fascism is an ever narrowing wedge of "us" against an ever broadening "them" ...eventually the wedge gets so thin that it breaks... accelerating that process from within is an insidious way of undermining a fascist movement.

That's the opposite! Few us against many them means we would in favor of minority rule, fascism. Plus there's the whole corporatism angle. I think your right that hegemony is much worse because there's no recourse when the majority is bad

Fascinating discussion. Americans need to look within as to why there is so much support for Putin in the US Republican Party and in my opinion it’s coming from a foundation laid by the huge influence of fundamentalist evangelicalism in the US. I grew up in an extended fundamentalist evangelical family mostly Baptist or Plymouth Brethren and my family life was all around church meetings (three times on Sunday and at least twice in the evening during the week) plus as kids we had play dates with the kids of other church families and when we went to state school we ‘Christian kids’ hung together and not with the kids of the ‘unsaved’. I grew up not really knowing any kids/teenagers who were not ‘Christians’. This was long before the days of the internet or mobile phones and TV was limited to a few channels and radio was local stations so it was easy for access to these to be controlled and in fact in our family church the leadership actively discouraged watching, listening to, or reading non Christian sources of information and it was emphasised that truth was what the pastor and elders taught. This has gone on for decades in the US and the net result is that fundamentalist Christians form the most fanatical base of the Republican Party today and have framed Trump as Gods agent to bring America back to God and that the upcoming election is a matter of good vs evil with the Republicans being the good.

One of the most important books I think I ever read as a young girl, was a book on the history of propaganda from the library. I wish I could remember the title! How frameworks of a different reality could be constructed and people convinced they were The reality, along with the use of evoking strong emotion stuck with me. This conversation was so interesting to listen to--thank you!
