Extremely useful video for beginners. It is really hard to explain right position of hands and movements in hitting! I will take your approach to exercises if you don't mind!

Can only agree on your breakdown. You have pretty nice form. Although i dont know how you feel about hitting mengane vs hitting the futon. Its a pretty fine line i think one must go to not break form too much in order to get that deep futon sound. Also my favorite way to practice tenouchi at home is striking random edges with empty pet bottles. They kind of bounce nicely off of hard edges you find everywhere. Also works on your Friends without hurting them

I totally agree with you and this is the footage from the same video you commented before. I feel bad because I forgot to include the disclaimer that my aim wasn’t accurate for these examples (I totally forgot, I did this very late at night ) but I will make a video dedicated on proper angle of striking and striking accuracy! Again thank you for taking the time of commenting and you are always welcomed to call me out 😂

@@Kendotips its not a mistake Bro. As i said it really is a fine line to walk and i find it better to show proper form over some very specific thing. These strikes can easily be ippon. Was really curious what you have to say about that balance. When i was getting the hand of these things i was chasing the sound but i always had to watch out not to move away too much from kihon. Edit: looking forward to that Video.

Can you make a video guiding how we breath during a single strike and/or during a keiko. I easily get exhausted after around 10 minute non-stop keiko

You provoke me to several questions. How the differences in height affect position of the left hand in the hitting (if you want to hit men futon)? How do you perform the tenouchi when strike a sashi-men? Where you imagine the focus point, because beginners sometimes hit just the top of men, or throw shinai down? How the hands should be high after hitting to perform zanshin? Sorry for so many questions, but I hope that it will be useful to think about it and maybe present a new video! _/\_

Very good and interesting questions, some of which I am already planing to make videos around. When it comes to the placing of the left hand for most cases will always be the same (in front of your chest) Most cases where I see people hit mengane is due to how the sword comes down rather their end position of their hands. Regarding the Sashi-men question: I have not met any sensei refer to Sashi-men in a positive way, and is always mentioned as something you want to avoid, I use "small-men or chisai-men" but long story short tenouchi is always the same. Regarding focus point: I will admit (and I even replied to a comment regarding this) that I did not focus on accuracy for the exercise part of the video instead I focused on the form (which I should have put more focus on striking accuracy my bad) That been said for striking I have my favorite quote from Grivas Sensei "Put the Leather to the Cloth" All of these are very generic answers, I normally do live streams on Saturdays if you pass by one of them feel free to bring this up and I can try to demonstrate on camera and I could answer your questions in more depth. Also you could join the discord and we could further explore these topics there too. Thank you again for watching!

What type of shinai are you using in the dojo clips? Looks to maybe be a koto shinai with an octagon grip.
@Kendotips
@Kendotips Жыл бұрын
Is just the regular octagonal grip shinai sold at California Budogu. (If you buy there if you use the code kendotips10 you’ll get 10%off on orders $200 or more) It is supposed to be Dobari the body of it is not so fat so maybe that’s why it looks like a koto? The grip is a bit thick but not so much.

@@Kendotips From your video, I got the impression that the right hand does not participate in the blow at all. while she should disperse the tip of the shinai.
