@Jazzy Jones The funny thing is, I played him about 5 years before that in a regular simultaneous display in London - also a solid draw. He had a tough day playing against a ridiculously strong English junior squad.

Great! I really love the design (which was specially commissioned) - it's playful and just a little bit sinister at the same time. Hehe :) Anyway, it makes me smile :) and I hope you too!

You really are incredible Daniel. I have learned so much from your videos, and the way you balance calm analysis with an excitement for this game is remarkable. It's also amazing how you look younger and more handsome with each successive video :). Just ordered a hoodie, I'm so excited to wear it around.

In the book From Russia With Love, Ian Fleming takes pains to describe how slow and risk-averse Kronstein is, treating his opponent like a fish that has to be completely de-boned before Kronstein dares to take a bite. Then we look at the game they used in the James Bond movie!? :D

It's incredible how Spassky has such a sense for sacrifices. Just look at Averbakh-Spassky 1956 were Spassky got a horrendous position out of the opening but he played 16...Nc6!!, sacrificing a whole piece. The move was objectively unsound, but it generated enough counterplay for Spassky to almost win. Maybe it's a natural consequence of being such a great player and working with someone as crazy as Tolush.

The makers of the Bond-movie clearly were Bronstein's fans as they reversed the roles in the movie as the winner was called Kronsteen! Although he wasn't russian but instead from Czechslovakia!

200 open games, fine book indeed. All Bronstein's books are great. Even though he did not wrestle the World championship away from Botvinnik, he did not lose the match either, Botvinnik tied it. Thus, I consider Bronstein as co-champion. Tolush was a very strong attacking player too. Great analysis as always.

I can not find on You Tube anyone who has covered in full the 1927 Capa-Alekhine Match. Perhaps you could fill that void in Chess history as that is the biggest upset in Chess History ever.

Why didn't Bronstein take the rook after Spassky's Knight D7? He had the momentum to gain a two piece advantage. Seems less about brilliance and more about blunder. What am I missing?

I think you mean 15 Nd6 exf1(Q)+. That would indeed have been the best continuation, but it is still not simple to defend. The best line of play for both sides then runs: 16 Rxf1 Bxd6 17 Qh7+ Kf8 18 cxd6 cxd6 19 Qh8+ Ke7 20 Re1 Ne5 21 Qxg7 Be6 22 dxe5 Rg8 23 Qxh6 and White has sufficient compensation for the sacrificed material.

1. ...g6 2.Rf7+ Qxf7 3. Nxf7 Rxe4 recaptures de Queen. I think it could be 1... g6 2 Rxf8 Rxf8 3. Qxg6+ Kh8 4.Nf7+ Rxf7 and win material.
