I never could stand shopping. But I sure wish I knew about minimalism when I was in my early 20's (mid 40's now) - would have saved a lot of $ in housing, furniture, books, etc.

Ted Talks always inspire me, it can be life changing sometimes. I totally agree with minimalism, I'm used to save money now rather than buying useless stuff because in the end what makes me happy is to travel and not to own the last iphone or whatever we think we need even tho we don't. Great video !

I identify with you on so many levels. I had a shopping problem - mostly makeup and DEFINITELY MAC. I had an obsession with MAC and every extra coin I earned went to buying makeup and other stuff that I didn't need or even use most of the time. I blew so much money. I'm so glad I discovered minimalism.

Hello and congratulations on this beautiful video from Jordan! I was a skin care junkie and stopped , I am transitioning to minimalism and like you said in your video I am enjoying the journey, it's all about consumerism and how our societies shaped us in a way. I have learned a lot from the Bedouins in my country , where life is very simple and less complicated.

I'm a recovering shopaholic. I've been transitioning to minimalism for about a year now, and it really helps me balance out my shopping impulses. Like, I'm in a makeup-buying phase right now, but I find that I hold back on buying things that I have multiples of or things that won't fit in my organizer, or things I don't actually like, and I do a lot of research beforehand. And without the concept of minimalism, there's no way I would be able to limit myself to owning just what fits in my little makeup organizer.

i have trouble getting rid of stuff that i got as gifts from friends/family even though i don't necessarily like it. for example, clothes. i never wear certain clothes that i got as gifts but i feel bad getting rid of it completely.

I denied a bank loan for a vehicle. The burden of debt isn't worth it for me. I'd rather wait until I have the full amount of cash. I'm 24. I have zero debt but no credit. I was told I need to put myself into debt to build ?_? lol.... anyway probably won't ever make sense to me. I avoid malls & fast food. I live simply & it does save me a lil $ but I'm discovering a lot of people my age don't understand this so I am alone a lot of the time....but that also saves me $ 😉 Good luck !

My uncle always paid cash for everything. Houses, cars, boats, everything. Only cash. As he approached retirement, he had no credit. He didn't need the credit for the purpose of obtaining money. No, he wanted to travel. He was running into issues because hotels were asking for credit card numbers to reserve rooms. He did end up getting credit and now is able to use his card to reserve hotels. He still does not need money. A good way to establish a credit score is to get a secured credit card (choose one that reports to the credit bureau). You put money on the card that is your limit. Then you are using your own money. If you can get a credit card or store card, there is no need to go into debt. Make your purchase with the card, then pay the bill in full each month. You can also use a credit card to make all your everyday purchases, then make one payment every month. This will save you money if you have a card that earns points and pays out cash back as points accumulate.

This is something I struggle with (as you know!). While I, too, have definitely improved my shopping/spending habits, impulse and temptation are still there. I also have a hard time letting go of items (clothes, accessories, old makeup, trinkets and nik-naks) that I won't thought were cute but no longer do. Do you have any reading material/blogs/vlogs you can recommend to help me step up my game? Love your videos!! Xoxo

Shopping for fashion, I could manage...but for food is not easy😣😣😣buying sauces, chocolate fruits too much on your griceries by assuming you r going to cook but you hv no time until expired!! I hv learnt to shop on a daily basis as simple as I can. Not shoppi g too much n just take enough for a day.
@juliaromie8 жыл бұрын
great video! :) I can relate to the clutter aspect more than the shopping aspect of this video; I keep far too many things that I don't need, but often I keep things for sentimental value...do you have any suggestions regarding sentimental clutter?
@AmandaRoundtheGlobe8 жыл бұрын
+Julie Romie my best tip for sentimental clutter is to take a picture of it and then let it go. This has been very helpful for me in terms of things like race trophies. I don't want to keep them but I want to have that item showing that I did all of that work. So I take a picture of it, keep the picture on my computer, and it feels the same as having the actual item, but it's not taking up space in my house. :) Hope that helps! It can be hard, just remember you don't have to do it all today - it's a journey.

@AmandaRoundtheGlobe8 жыл бұрын
+Sun Primer excellent! Buying less is definitely part of the process. My new mindset is that I only buy something that I absolutely love that works with what I already have. I'm planning a capsule wardrobe video to go more in depth with this :) Thanks for watching

I want to become a minimalist, but I buy and then keep things out of fear that I will regret getting rid of it and I guess never have that thing in my life again?... Does that make any sense? Pretty sure I am crazy, but I form an attachment to things very easily, which makes getting rid of them, or telling myself, 'no, you do not need that' *very* difficult. Do you have any advice for this?
