I really like how the stream got nuked as soon as you all brought up the insanity that is uniform changes. (Great episode, though, as always.)

“You can hit at 600 meters with an M4,” has such an unspoken story behind it. David is a wild dude.

I would like to point out something. The M16 was not actually a POS when it first came out. Hear me out, since this gets overlooked often. American SF and ARVN loved the M16. They even noted the reliability of the weapon as one of it's pros. The problem is when the regular Army was first forced to field it. They changed the propellent in the ammunition that was not verified to work with the M16. They also didn't field proper cleaning kits. In order to save costs/speed up production, they also removed the chrome lined chamber the prototypes originally had. All of this lead to the jamming issues the M16 became so notorious for.

A favorite catch and release story is of a notorious local insurgent leader who was consistently being caught and released to the point where as he was being detained yet again he was smiling in such a arrogant fashion the squad leader was beyond livid. The soldiers drove past the Iraqi police station and dropped this Sunni insurgent (who they knew had American blood on his hands) in a Shia neighborhood during the ongoing Iraqi Shia Sunni war. Like dropping a blood in crypt territory the soldiers and now not smiling ied guy knew exactly what was going to happen when they threw him out of their vehicle and a week later he was found dead in a roadside ditch. He didn't get the last laugh that time.

I’ve watched task&purpose for a while now and it’s a great show. Listening to him and his story was interesting. The comment about the DOJ investigating the Army for all the uniform changes/shit was spot on. Keep the good episodes coming.

NG has every combat MOS that active duty has. I was with the 19th SFG which is NG. NG is even now soon getting a Ranger unit.

Great interview! Watching from Montreal up in Canada. Lots of nuance which may not be fully appreciated unless you've been in the infantry or actually understand how the military works. No matter the country. Too bad the interview was cut short.

Future war does look like its down to who can throw the most damage at a distance. So I think it is a good bet. Not just rifles though , also hypersonic missiles.. As a wise man once said the First-est with the Most-est.

I enjoyed the "everyman" nature of this podcast compared to all the elite stuff. Maybe its the instintive relating to someone else who was a basic infantryman, regardless of country. Some of the stuff of the difficulties of coming home made me emotional, which is weird, since mytime was so lomg ago.
