Thanks for always bringing books I’ve never heard of! If you’re interested in books like the Lady Macbeth, a few years ago I went down a Medusa rabbit hole. I’d known of her of course, but not her story. My kid did a presentation about her, this was the pandemic so he was on zoom school, and as I listened to this boy explain her story (from a movie he watched I’m guessing), I’m thinking this doesn’t sound right, she sounds like a victim not a villain. So I got a few books about her, my favorite is Medusa by Rosie Hewlett. The cover is gorgeous, but the tag lines, “Gorgon. Killer. Monster. Victim. Survivor. Protector.” “You know her name, you know her story, just not the right one.” And the first lines hooked me, “I was beautiful once. I would not recommend it. That might come as a surprise to you. A lot of the things I am about to tell you probably will, because there is a lot this world does not know about me. You see, my story has been retold and reimagined so many times over, sometimes even I do not recognize it.” Anytime there’s an opportunity to talk about that book I do. So my sons project, that other boy had written the script that Medusa seduced Poseidon, after telling my son what that really seems like (at an age appropriate level) he refused to say his lines that way, I was so so proud of him. 😊

AWW I am so glad that I was able to share some new titles with this video!!!! That is exactly what I hope for when I make these!!!💌🙌💯🙏 OMG I am SO interested in Medusa and her story and also stories that reclaim the narrative (kind of like what Madeline Miller did with Circe!!!) I just added Medusa by Rosie Hewlett to my tbr because WOW, those opening lines😱🤯🙌💯👏!!!! You have just inspired me SO MUCH to do a Medusa themed video, where I read as many of the books on Medusa that I can!!! I did something similar to this with Frankenstein last year and it was such an amazing reading experience immersing myself in the story that way!! Also I LOVE that your son rethought the narrative he had learned about her, that is so amazing!!!!😭😭😭

Grey Dog is getting a lot of hype lately! I put it on my TBR. I've seen Piglet around, and the title reminded me of the Spanish film "Piggy" that was released last year. Looking at the synopsis, this book is not the same. That is a horror movie, and since I saw it around, I assumed the book was horror (or thriller) too and found it to be a funny coincidence. 😅 Anyway, that's totally random. I...LOVE...the synopsis for So the Witches We Became. So tired of "boys will be boys". I love all of the historical fiction finding its way into your TBR! It's a far more interesting genre than it sounds (at least in my opinion). 😆

I am SO excited to get my hands on Grey Dog and see what I will think, from the sounds of it I think it could be a new favorite!!! Also Ohh When I first seen the book Piglet I was wondering if it was a horror at first LOL! I don't think I seen the movie Piggy but I am looking it up now!!! I totally agree, So the Witches We Became sounds SO refreshing!!! RIGHT yessss, I feel like historical fiction is just hitting different for me all of a sudden!!!!💯😻🙌📚👏🎉

I’m catching up on past videos! I actually just finished The Bad Ones and I didn’t care for it. It’s sort of about some teens finding out that a slumber party game (light as a feather, bloody mary, etc) is real, but the game in the book is mostly just dumb. And it’s too long to be a stupid-fun YA horror romp. I liked the author’s previous book Our Crooked Hearts but I guess that was a one-off!
