This video was so well made!! Wild World was my favorite game growing up, I put so many hours into it! The funny thing was, I didn't know City Folk was a thing for so long during my childhood. I finally bought it a couple years ago now and It really hit hard how much I love all of these games. I'm so happy I found your channel, I can't wait to go watch all your other Animal Crossing video!

Thanks! Just a heads up though, my next couple of videos won't be about Animal Crossing because I want to take a break after how long this one took. But I do plan on covering every Animal Crossing game that came out during the 3DS and Wii U era for my next ac video.

City Folk is my 2nd favourite AC game actually, and you did it justice in this video. Seeing people talk shit about it always made me sad because I think the fact that City Folk is just like Wild World comes to its advantage, since Wild World was a good game and it just improved in (almost) every way conceivable. Also, no game in this franchise will ever come close to the vibe of Population Growing.

Not to mention that to the people who don't have a ds they couldn't only wild world unless you download it on the wiiu but even then the eshop will eventually shutdown. At least city folk could be played on a Wii or wiiu and give people who didn't have a ds a chance to play animal crossing if it is almost exactly like the wild world then it should be just about the same experience right?

Wild World was my go to game for the long bus ride I had every morning and afternoon for school. Hopper was my favorite villager because I felt that I earned his friendship (I didn't know personalities were a feature and his is cranky). Long story but- when I got New Leaf years later, I wanted him to come to my town so bad. Anytime I saw him in a youtuber's video I'd smile (he's famous lol) but really I was a little sad that my chances were so low to get him (nobody I knew had the game except my brother). Cut to a few months ago- I'm playing New Horizons and a villager (Julia) who'd been living on my island for awhile wanted to move out. I was in-between but let her go as I stockpiled tickets. My goal was get a brand new villager that I never had before, so I spend nearly a whole day searching for a villager (I saw Cube who lived on my island previously but didn't recognize me, Kid Cat, etc.) Now I'm on my second to last ticket and I'm ready to just take whoever shows up and guess who- Hopper! I recorded the moment we met after over a decade of being apart and he's now my neighbor again! Anyways I'm bad at conclusions so yeah- game is good cause it made me lifelong friends with a penguin

Sadly I never had the games as a kid so I’m a little jealous! It’s always interesting to see when people have favorites villagers that aren’t some of the most common ones. Certainly better than everyone worshipping the same 5 ones

@@Alejandroid i've always seen it like pokemon, people will naturally gravitate towards the cuter ones with more general appeal while others will form a bond with a villager that might not be their "dreamy" villager

What a great Animal Crossing review this was! Very informative, but also very entertaining! City Folk was my first introduction to the series and it probably had to do with owning Brawl as well. I remember putting a lot of hours into it and eventually, I tried out the older games like Wild World and Population Growing! I liked Population Growing more than Wild World, but still saw the charm in the DS Game. Later on, I bought New Leaf and New Horizons and out of all of the mainline games I've played, New Leaf is my favorite one! In fact, I picked up my old save file again after getting nostalgic about that game a few days ago.

WW and CF might look the same to the average person but to the Animal Crossing obsessed psycho (me), they’re so different. I think overall I would say I prefer City Folk? The only area where I think it fails compared to Wild World is the dialogue. Which to be fair, is a huge part of why Animal Crossing is so good (and why New Horizons was the worst in the series tbh) but WW removing holidays is also a huge point against it for me. I think CF overall is the game I revisit more compared to WW.
@Alejandroid
@Alejandroid Жыл бұрын
I agree with you, they absolutely look different! It’s just that like you said, to the average joe they might not look different enough at a glance to look like an upgrade. But I actually enjoyed playing through CF WAY more than I thought I would when recording this video. WW was great but it felt kind of empty after a while, especially considering the smaller village and lack of holidays.

I remember my unfortunate disappointment when I started up City Folk. By this time, I was starting to get less excited about Animal Crossing, probably because the central ideas and mechanics had not changed so much since the first one. I played them soooo much, but I think that when City Folk released (which looked too similar to WW but added a tiny extra area) I just kind of fell somewhere in the middle, I did not hate it, I just didn't feel excited to play it. Awesome video by the way!!

How to tell these games apart: - Wild World doesn't have any holidays that are real in it, like Toy Day (Christmas), Halloween, or Bunny Day (Easter, which wasn't introduced yet). This was apparently because Nintendo wanted to make a "secular" Animal Crossing, but saved these holidays for City Folk. - There are no mountains or ramps due to limiations of the DS. City Folk adds these back in towns as an option. - All "new" songs were actually recycled from the Japanese e+ port of the GameCube Animal Crossing. City Folk would add new obtainable songs, like K.K. Island and Spring Blossoms. - Instead of the awkward voices for the villagers, City Folk opted for a different approach which sounds close to what they would use in every game (up to New Horizons). - Players can have their own separate houses, unlike Wild World, again, due to limitations. - The Mario items and other Nintendo-referenced items can now be obtained by either playing over Wi-Fi or through shooting down balloon presents instead of having to use the now-defunct Wi-Fi Connection. - City Folk adds silver tools. - More about the Nintendo-referenced items: half of them (examples being the Blue Falcon and the Pikmin flowerbed) were actually unobtainable in City Folk, later saved for New Leaf. - Like what New Leaf later did, the Mario items either used their updated appearances from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, or reused their Super Mario Bros. (1985) appearances from Wild World. - City Folk added a feature over Wi-Fi that allows players to speak to each other with the special microphone, the Wii Speak. Nintendo would later do something very similar with their Nintendo Switch Online app compatible with New Horizons, though you need a phone/tablet/laptop with a microphone.

Wild World will always be a fantastic sequel to one of my favorite entries to this series. While I would love City Folk too, two things that hinder its full success in my mind are the limited wii remote controls (it should have Classic, GCN options) and not enough was done to enhance the DS Suitcase option. To me the game feels off playing with a wii remote + nunchuck combo, I know it's there for the Wii's motion control selling point but there should have been other control options like the Gamecube controller. For those that got both games (Wild World & City Folk) I wish the DS Suitcase had more to it. I'm a sucker for interconnectivity games that give bonus content or swappable content, but for these games, to have your character move from WW to CF really made that "moving on your own" feeling stronger. It's cool you got to keep your look, clothes on your back and the back catalog of what you purchased in your DS town. However, not everything could be repurchased in said catalog which is disappointing since ingame models of those items were made? If the optional feature were reworked I would keep what they had in place but in addition, have money brought over with you to outright purchase the first house loan at least, have 1-2 villagers move with you to your new town on the Wii, treat it like a new game plus for your travelled and well seasoned DS character that you made and the experiences you went through on WW. Sorry for that tangent, but I love this video and the previous one you did for Population Growing \o/
