Great stuff! I have a similar caliper on my VW LT35. Had same issue with bleeder valves snapping like in your previous video. Luckily had a bit more leftover that you did, smashed a star socket on top and it cracked, otherwise welding would be best option!

Can't wait to see some videos of that bus on the road. That teaser video you did without plates wet the appetite.

Me too! Ive been having to replace the brakes and steering components but driving it a little more now. I think I'm going to put together a video doing a little highway and some off road stuff which should tax the cooling system pretty well. Hoping to get that going in the next few weeks.

I gotta say that the severe rust you guys see up there in CO must be so prevalent that you don't pay much mind to it. I would have dropped that caliper in the scrap heap, myself! But you made it work, and that is a good thing, brother.

Oh, the irony - this is a Texas Bus ;) there is a little rust up here in CO but definitely not as much as the coasts and the Midwest (that's probably why they're hard to pick up for under $3000 here). Anyway, thanks for the compliment!

I have seen some for sale on CL in the Houston area that look pretty rotted. You mentioned in the video something about Bentley. Is that a repair manual or something? Just curious.
@Busaru10 жыл бұрын
You can replace almost anything on these busses that have rotted, I love that!

One problem you will have is that you'll never get the air out of that brake caliper. That caliper is a right hand caliper. The bleed nipple is at the bottom of the caliper it should be at the top. Any air in the hydraulic system will go to the top of the caliper and it will stay there. Unless the caliper has a provision at the top to fit a bleeder you'd have to swap them over.

+aussiepaul50 They have bleeders on the bottom and top - Stops like a champ. I don't believe you can swap calipers from side to side either. Thanks for the comment.

That’s why you have bleeders top and bottom - they are not handed 👍

On those two caliper bolts, does the tapered one go on the top or bottom?

awesome video bro, i have a problem on my bus with the brakes,it seems that the front ones dont brake at all while the rears do,i bled them 99 times and the pedal is still soft it gets hard after 2,3 pumpings than when i move my leg from the brake pedal in 2,3 secs its soft again...is it the master cylinder or something else cuz there are no visible leaks anywhere,do u have any ideas what could it be??any suggestion is welcome :) cheers

CROOKKEEDD D I have this same problem. Did you ever resolve your issue?
@richg4915 жыл бұрын
No leaks at any wheel and no line leaks = replace or rebuild the master cylinder. $70 for the jbugs Brazilian made master cylinder is cheap for WORKING brakes, after all my bug stops (I got tierd of rust so from master cylinder out removed and replaced with NiCopp and new hoses. I sure do not want a bus rear ending me.

It looks as if you have Girling style calipers, and used the ATE style rebuild kit that doesn’t require the c-clip, this world without issues? Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, I’m tackling my calipers now. They are girling, but have the ATE pistons (without the notches) Frank-n-brakes

How are these holding up after nearly two years?
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Simon Keen Stop great as far as I know. The owners of the white bus "Roo" can be found on instagram #Busaru The calipers themselves should hold up for a very very very long time unless left to sit and rot in a field like the way I found them on the bus.
