Thanks a ton, man! My Sienna 2000 had the same noise. I used Electric impact wrench and bar extender to unscrew the screw nuts (located on right). They are shown at 7:34 of your videos and also I used standard portable car jack to lift and line up screw holes when I was going to put those screws back. I replaced clunking passenger side strut and sway bar link only, worked for me. I even didn't need an alignment, because car was not pulling on any side after strut replacement. I paid $165 for parts, that I got from AutoZone and did all job by myself. I'm not a mechanic but after auto repair shop wanted $375 for the same job only, I became a mechanic for couple hours.

@@somap8380 I did eventually. The second one was holding for 4 more years. If you have enough money and time, then - sure, why not? Change them both. It doesn't look much at first look but it takes about 4 hours for me to replace one side. I don't have a garage or and can't lift up car higher than standard car jack.

Bingo, finally figured it out, thanks to you!! (i told the "mechanic" it was the struts.. He convinced me it wasnt and after "repair" made the same dang noise. Its identical to this noise.

I got the same struts on my car and from my personal point of view these are horrible after marker struts. I was tryn to save a buck but when it comes to car front suspension it's not worth it. They are loud as heck. I will be replacing these of true oe struts that are twice the price. Good video tho.

1997 toyota camry Clunk noise back passenger side when braking,,,put up in air and when i spin the tire you can also here it Could it be a lateral arm? Only when slowing down while breaking the clunk, shudder

This is a two person job, especially aligning the top screws while holding and pushing the strut from below. The second person can tell the muscle how to move and rotate the strut to align the threads with the holes.

Did you're vehicle make a clunking sound when you turned the wheel? I know my struts need done but now it's clunking. It has new ball joints, strut rod bushings, stabilizer links, tierods. It has to be the struts clunking. Unless a newer part broke already.

If it's clunking while turning it's probably your CV axle. If it's popping when turning then it's probably tie rods

@@levicallis459 I got new struts and it helped some but the noise is still there. It could be the CV axle or even the rac steering. Those haven't been replaced.

@@trr5291 what kind of noise? I'm working on a buddies sienna and I'm getting a bit of a shudder when it's at idle and hard to turn. I'm trying to figure out if doing the shocks and struts will help.

@@levicallis459 The clunking when running went away with new struts but when it's off and you try to turn it you hear a clunking. Almost like tierod clunk but they are new. I don't have a sienna. I have a 225.000 mile intrepid.

after installing the struts, drive your vehicle around for a little bit,..if your vehicle doesnt pull you to the left or right while driving or you dont smell tire burn ,then you probably will not need a wheel alignment. if you do we have a video on how to do your alignment

my husband did fix our alignment after installation...really youll have to feel for your tires by driving around and see if it pulls you too much to one side while driving..in that case you will need an alignment...if it doesnt..i dont see the need for it

if you have the equipment, you will have to raise the vehicle up to pinpoint the noise location while spinning the tire a bit..if not a mechanic wil have to check it for you

It’s obvious by the tire that your wheel is out of alignment. To properly answer the question- YES on many vehicles you need to have an alignment done if you replace the struts. NO, you cannot always tell by driving it whether you need an alignment. By the time you see the uneven wear on your tires you still need the alignment plus have ruined your tires. The strut controls your camber which is how much the top of the tire tips in or out, which should generally be 0 degrees.

The counter bit you used looks like a torx not an Allen

Nm, after looking myself, you're right it is an Allen. I also removed the air guide above the 3 bolts at the top to have better access to them. It's just 3 10mm nuts
