Anyone who doubts the explosiveness and power of JKD, needs to watch the video where Thomas snaps the baseball bat. No ones knee is going to survive that kind of blow. The knee is a floating bone, a very vulnerable target. This is high IQ self defense, no trading blows.

Makes sense. I would still add the rear leg kick but thats been trained a lot reps from past. I think there’s value in rear leg kick from Thai styles in self defense. But I also like the led leg attacks like the groin and knee from jkd

The reasons why I still teach rear leg sidekick because it teach beginners how to rotate their hips into the kick. Most of the time they simply cannot grasp the idea and the mechanic of hip rotation while kicking with the lead leg. Also it's great for developing the turning sidekick before introducing that technique to the student

The rear leg is used in jkd, just noz as frequently as the front. Its used if the front gets deflected or the opponent comes from left side angles. I have done a video yesterday as well on this for members.

Be careful with the side kick to the knee. Even with the knee shin pads you can injure your training partner. The knee joint can hyper extend in any direction even with the knee shin pads.
