I absolutely love this game. I got it on pc and when my pc broke I ended uo getting it for ps4. I suggest to not get mad if you die a lot at first. And in terms of story line's look up the lore, it's very interesting.

If you like city builders with a challenge... This is your game... I liked simcity and cities skylines... But this... This is my favorite of all of them. You manage everything all the way down to the laws which dictate how you manage resources... Push far enough and you might end up managing more than just wood and coal... You can actually end up having to manage dead bodies.

On your first completetion run (might take 1-3 tries maybe mroe) it feels really rewarding as your city is imploding and you just barely manage to save your city and get that victory. One thing is that on your first game u have no idea what your doing if u have no prior knowledge like gathering posts allowing u to gather and other buildings that they don't give you quests for which you will probably discover later. For me the biggest scene was probably when I met a group of children out on the map, at the time we had to stock up on food for the storm and they would be more mouths to feed so I had to leave them and many others I found, as they were injured and my medical system was kinda imploding. Replayability is a big thing thats missing from what I've played of the first scenario so far, citizens have like 10 dialouge options it feels like and many scenes are repeated but it is an Indie game so they can't waste money on extra things. The difficulty settings are good and they do make the game more replayable trying to survive under harsher conditions.

I've already played and very much enjoyed the game but I have to say grate and in depth review. As much most reviews try to be funny and entertaining I prefer more technical thorough reviews such as yours. You know a game is good when people aren't complaining about being bad but being enough of it. I consider that with the resources 11bits studios had (as an indie dev) they did a marvelous job with this game. Can't wait for Frostpunk 2. (Dieselpunk era is coming)

I think that the ambiguity of the setting was a deliberate choice. As a writer, I had a big issue a while back with explaining everything that happened. Leaving things out, especially when it comes to a game/setting as fascinating as Frostpunk, leaves a lot of room for people to wonder and speculate, while letting them be excited for anything that promises to expand and explain more. Recently the devs made a video about questions concerning the lore, and they deliberately remained ambiguous throughout, never delving in too deep. I really like that they’re leaving so much open, since it means the sequel that’s coming will have a lot of potential room to expand into.

May i know how to do the editing at 10:15 ? i know that you have applied gaussian blur on the background video 1, but for image 2 and 3 may i know what technique or what cropping method did you use to make them blend in that way?

In After Effects, a combination of generating fractals for mask shape, roughen edges and feathering. Keystamping the feathering allows you to 'grow' or 'shrink'.

I disagree with you about the On the Edge DLC. It gave me the anger and frustration toward New London, but eventually, I decided to save NL and all of its people after reading the desperate begging mail with the support of 3 settlements. It has a good and unique gameplay that you must rely on the settlements helps to develop the outpost and cut-off relation with NL.

Personally, I think On The Edge is underappreciated. Sure, it doesn't have the emotional impact and relief as A New Home or Refugees, but I think that's the problem. On The Edge is considered so bad BECAUSE it's compared to the other scenarios. I like it, myself. It's also good to know you were wrong about your prediction of this being a small indie thing. A sequel is announced, woo!

Awesome review.. I really liked it. However I have to disagree with your opinion of the presentation. AS a UX/UI engineer this game is incredible. Everything looks finished and a dark them spills threw every aspect of the full presentation. For me, the games presentation is what makes it really shine.

The "purpose" tech tree is one of the most amusing aspects of the game. It basically gives you the choice of turning your city into the Soviet Union or the Taliban.
